Stock OC Cards? Worth it?

Are stock OC cards worth it? The card that I am wanting currently is only available in stock non-OC clocks. Is this a bad thing? Are stock OC cards better? You can just overclock the stock cards.

@AMD Lover so, they are better binned chips. they tend to OC better. thats about it. however, they also can have beefie coolers depending on the brand (very rarely)

To answer your question, with RTX cards the differences between cards are less pronounced than previous gens. For example, my bone stock $699 RTX 2080 Turbo out performs my $849 (retail) XC Ultra. This was even before the BIOS mod that allows 300+ watts vs the stock 215.

The thing with an overclock is you can generally expect a linear increase in performance. So if you figure out how much percentage faster the overclock is compared to stock, that's the percentage better you can expect in games to an extent.

 

In this case, the factory overclock is less than 5%. If it costs more than 5% to buy the overclocked card over the stock card, then the value proposition becomes less. I'd argue you likely won't see the difference in practice anyway.
