It’s a shame that so many of those dedicated mining GPUs are useless now, isn’t it? But even with no outputs, Chinese hackers made it so they can still game! Or have they…

Hmm... can we have 16:9? I don't think there's anything to be gained by cutting the top and bottom of the image... or were these recorded at whatever aspect ratio this is?

Just curious, without the modified driver, could this be used for a streaming setup as a video compression card? I mean, yeah, draws a lot of power, but for $60-$70, having a dedicated card for video compression for a real time system like streaming, could be worth it rather than having to set up a second system for high resolutions. Could also allow for higher resolution than cheaper video capture devices (around the same price point) if it does work.

hmm i wanna buy one, but i have no real use for it

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Could you try flashing 1060 vBIOS on it? I think this could solve problem with unsigned drivers

lol Nvidia's not gonna stop locking mining cards out. Jensen literally said he expects gamers to cover up the company's excess stock on 1060s (I dont think he pinpointed the 1060, but everyone knows it's that) at the time when new cards are about to be announced because they fucked up in managing price cuts and new products' release date.

@Caliber Mengsk I just watched the video and was thinking the same thing. Having a dedicated GPU running NVENC separately for stream/record compression could be interesting. I would imagine with the hacked firmware this may be possible, but I do wonder if it is supported with the regular NVIDIA drivers because that would be pretty awesome!

Can it blend without the sketch driver? Because I could use a 1060 6GB for blender for under $70 USD. (way better than a 760 2GB and a 1050 2GB, and light years ahead of an i5 2500 or an fx6300)

So, by the time you get it to north America it is roughly 130-140 a used 1060 is 150-180. What is the point?

They talked about this topic in the video, but they also said that they do not recommand since you have no way to know exactly what changes from the original driver it has been made of

Didn't checked but in theory you could change PC IDs in Kernel part of the Nvidia driver for it to assume it's 1060 - if it's differentiated at that level. If it's locked in userspace by the userspace part of nvidia drivers based on firmware checking then it won't work with Nvidia driver, but possibly could work with the open source one... which is rather bad for performance.

I could literally sell my 760 and pick up one of these and not be out of pocket. Just the dodgy driver issue holding me back. Aren't mining cards usually undervolted too, so in ""theory"" the card should be fine. How "dodgy" could "dodgy" videocard drivers be? I assume credit card stealing.

Do you guys have any idea if I can use this driver for a P102-100 5gb from zotac? I found this mining card at my local retailer for around 400$ brand new with VAT included (I live in the EU), and I would like to buy if it actually works. I also own a rx 550 so I can use freesync while using this card without display outputs.

I wonder if it could be used in unraid with a true 1060 firmware.  Unraid allows you to replace the on-board firmware with a file on the computer then pass-through the card.  By using the with a 1060 firmware you might be able to install official Nvidia drivers. Connect to the VM with splash-top-desktop and use the nvidia card and you do not need to connect any video output.
