3X RAID 0 vs Single SSD

MultiMigo

So I'm deciding between getting another drive to have my RAID config at 3x.

I'm mainly into video editing and I'm deciding if I should make that RAID 0 config my main source media drive (Where I edit off of)

versus a single SSD. The RAID would give me 1.5TBs of storage plus giving me fast read and write.

but RAID 0 doesnt give HDDs the latency advantage SSDs have. For editing you want this too (ideally)

Are these SATA drives or NVMe?

SATA drives. Sata 2 3.0Gbps (Only the sata left in my motherboard) The SSDs are in Sata 3

Mhm. I'll keep that in mind! But in real world scrubbing and importing, does it differ that much?

Got it. You probably don't have an NVMe M.2 slot then. Otherwise, a single NVMe drive is much faster than three SATA SSDs drives in RAID0.

You didn't mention explicitly in the OP that your array was HDDs.

Yeah, still rocking the i7 3770. Works fine though! My only problem are my drives. My motherboard only has 2 Sata 3 ports and 4 Sata 2 ports.

scrubbing - some difference, but not serious

importing - the larger the file the less noticeable
