First dog training clients tomorrow evening. They have 2 females that do not get along and fight each other. It's gotten to the point where they have to keep each dog on a separate floor of the house. Walking them on leash is like flying kites and they bark like crazy at other dogs and bicycles. The owners are always on-edge because of the dog's behaviors and it's created a pretty miserable situation.

Nice hot day on Saturday, so the pups decided they wanted to have a shower and a game with the hose , I also filled a kiddie pool for them to splash about in... they had a great time :D

 

I've been looking for Puppy classes near me, but there aren't any spaces left, they are completely booked up even for their November classes. So doing most of the training by logical means, in other words seeing what dinky does naturally and assigning a name/command for it if it might be useful... and also looking at some dog training videos. She has a LOOOONG way to go for a lot of things, But it'll come hopefully.

 

Been trying to sort the garden out a bit too... it's pretty messy in some places, but inherited it like that, and it needs a LOT of work done. So that's me sorted for at least 4-5 Hrs per week trying to make a dent in that.

Yep. That's one of the reasons we went raw. Everyone beware! other brands not listed aren't much better in terms of content and quality.

LOL, just found out that Dinky has learnt how to open baby gates (they were cheaper than doggy gates)... if we don't fully latch them, she pushes up the handle with her nose :D

I was wondering how she managed to get into the kitchen after I'd shut her in the living room a few days back.. only found out as my dad went through, didn't firmly latch it, and we sat and watched her go straight over and lift it with her nose, then push the gate... we were astounded ?

The first dog my ex and I had after we got married was a little Border Collie runt or mix we picked up in the small town my ex was from that someone had dumped there. We named him Blackie but it should have been Houdini. We never found out how he was getting out while we were gone and the escapes stopped only after we trained him to not escape his pen (and it was a large one).

Yeah we've had clever dogs before, but this just astonished us, as we didn't even see her trying to do it or anything... she must have just watched us doing it and thought "hey that's cool, I can just lift that lever and get out" LOL

We are now making sure the gates are properly locked :D

Just took that one this morning, she's a beautiful girl :)

 

She's much better now BTW, she is more obedient and cuddly too. Man she loves playing fetch, and very fast. She's learning stuff every day, and she's pretty intelligent, you can see her trying to work things out.

She has now perfected, Sit, lay down, and roll over... and I'm working on play dead and some others.

She does an awesome "beg", but I call it "Rex" as she looks like a little Tyrannosaurus Rex... but she cheats sometimes and does like a cat/tiger does and holds your hand .

 

Here's one where she looks like a bear cub, while eating the leftover yoghurt

Chillin in town surrounded by noises and distractions. A year ago, this was not even remotely possible with these two. It's incredible what proper training can do. And btw, they are not "tired" here. They're high-drive, high-energy dogs. With one release command, they will shoot up and start playing. They're simply relaxed and calm. :)

And when we get home from a walk, they wait in the car until released. They used to burst out the door and knock you over on the way, lol.

And BTW, I'm not sharing this to gloat or anything. I'm just very proud of the progress they've made and want everyone to understand, yes it is a lot of work, but it's not "difficult" to train them to be like this. It's a simple philosophy to follow, day to day, and it makes a massive difference. :)

She's very proficient at a lot of things now, she loves learning stuff too, which is great :D

 

Bought her a new collar today (pic in next post), very cheap too, though that wasn't my aim for it actually, was just looking for one with a decent enough room for growth... it's a Halti too, and goes from 13-20 inches, which should last her to adulthood pretty much... I couldn't believe how cheap it was

Also ordered her a harness, so we can take her in the car in that rather than her carrier then... coming in a few days.

 

Oh, little update for you, she is now 13" neck, 23" chest and 14.4Kg.
