Every day after dinner Jessie comes upstairs and either beggs my brother or me to go out with her and Jaba.

Here she whines in front of my door.

You can take a look at all of the Tech that I own and have owned over the years in my About Me section and on my Profile.

I'm Swiss and my Mother language is Swiss German of course, I speak the Aargauer dialect. If you want to watch a great video about Swiss German which explains the language and outlines the Basics, then click here.

If I could just play Videogames and consume Cool Content all day long for the rest of my life, then that would be sick.

Well we got her, everyone meet Dinky - again :D

I was going to post a short video of her that I took, but forgot I was shooting in 4k60, so yeah file size was huge, and I just don't have the time to edit it right now.

She is a right bruiser... literally. She has a tendency to bite at the moment, because of the teething mostly we hope. She does respond to the "Ahhh!" when she's doing something wrong... but as we are looking after my sisters dog Charlie while they are on a cruise, it has the unintended consequence of him thinking he's done something wrong too! ?

She's adopted one of my mum's crocks to use for teething at the moment, so glad I bought her those teething rings and such, lol

She's decided that she's the boss at the moment, and has barked and growled a little at Charlie... little does she realise that Charlie has been being told to go easy with her, hehehehe. We are so pleased with her, the breeders didn't really want to let her go as they'd spent a lot of time with her as she was the smallest, so they've been taking good care of her. It's only her first day with us, and she's already letting us know when she needs to go out, so that's great and hope she toilet trains easily. I won't go on and bore you all though any more.

So cute! What's the breed? Looks like black lab, but can be hard to tell at that size & age. ;)

Yes, she is a black labrador. full of life and has plenty of confidence at exploring new things, which is good... Henry was afraid of many things, as is charlie... so it's nice to see a confident pup.

Her mum is a chocolate lab, and her dad is a black lab... all the pups that came out were black. The breeder actually bred the dogs hoping that they would get the dads head shape and the mums body, so that they're a bit faster but still have a big head shape. He mostly sells to other people looking for working dogs, for fetching and beating on shoots etc. She is the only surviving girl from the litter of 11, unfortunately 3 girls and 1 boy died, a couple because they were so small and another 2 when the mum rolled on them and crushed them when she was still woozy from the cesarian, she had to have that as the first pup got stuck during delivery, he was one of the ones that didn't survive ?

The breeder said that if I wanted to breed from her, she would most likely have 3 colours pups, chocolate, black and fox IIRC... we aren't planning on breeding her though, will book her in for spaying when she's coming up for 6 months.

I have a fair bit of work to do with her, as she was in kennels with the other dogs, but she's already pretty much house trained, she knows that she needs to go outside, so she tries to indicate to you... you just have to be paying attention. I was up with her most of the night, she only slept about 3 hours in her "cage" which is actually a dog carrier bag, I might get her a proper cage, but will leave it a few days to see if she takes to being with me on the bed without trying to bite me first, lol - if she learns not to bite, she's welcome to have an open type bed on my bed. If not I'll have to get her a cage, and put up with her howls and barks... if done with consistency with not paying attention she should self soothe. I'm trying not to give her too much to cope with all at once, so i'm prioritizing the toilet training which shouldn't take long, and by that time I hope she's learned this is her new home and feels safe enough. That should in turn help with the whining to come out so i'm led to believe.

It's a rude awakening at the moment, as our Henry was such a good dog, he didn't even bark until he was around 6 months IIRC, we never heard his puppy bark, so was a shock when at 6 months he had the full deep bark, LOL.

ATM she's loving having my sisters dog with us, she likes chasing him and growling and barking, then running away again. He's wary of her as she can be bitey, but seems to be doing it less often now, so hopefully she's learning. She's teething hard at the moment, but prefers our fingers to the teething ring.

That reminds me of my ex's second poodle. He never barked until he was a year old, after we had given up on him ever barking. Up to then, he only did a short, two syllable howl that sounded like, "Woo woo." In fact, for while, one of his nicknames was "Little Woo Woo". His real name was Prince, short for his AKC name, Prince Gordon Schumway--my ex misspelled Shumway on the AKC registration form--which was the old TV series Alf's Melmackian name (Alf was an acronym for Alien Life Form; the dog got named for him because his fur was the same color as Alf's fur).

Some friends of mine used to have a black lab mix (although he favored mostly the lab in him) that had the deepest, most ferocious bark for even his size (100lb; I think his mother wqas a draft horse) but he was just a big, goofy, lovable pussy cat.

I miss both of those dogs.

I'm not fond of poodles as some of my relatives had them growing up, and they were mean little buggers... but I do appreciate that not all poodles are like that, and sorry that you miss them :(

Yes, that's exactly what Henry was like, really deep bark, he was really cute and cuddly though. He was scared or wary of a few things, sometimes other dogs, he would bark at them like a warning bark and most of the time that worked for him and they stopped their rush at him. He did lay on his back if any came closer usually though :D

Day 3 of Dinky, and I managed to get in around 5 hours sleep last night, which is a BIG improvement... however she does not like being in the bag, or in my room as I won't let her wander with all my PC stuff and such in my room as she's a chewer/biter at the moment. So she's decided that her safe space is the living room, so that's where I ended up last night, trying to sleep upright on the couch, LOL. She did sleep right through from around 10-10.30pm when she last went out to the toilet, until around 5am, curled up at my feet, so I am glad of that :D

It's hard to know whether to try a proper crate or not, as we don't have anywhere in the house that'll be free from her cries, it'll definitely wake someone up, possibly the neighbours too as we're in a terraced (adjoined) property. I can't sleep downstairs with her for too long though as it's draining and not a "proper" sleep as such... that's why I was hoping she'd take to being in my room with me. I'll give her another day or 2 as she seems to be settling in, and then try her with a crate I think.

That would be my ex's first poodle, named (appropriately) Bozo (he got his name from the movie Love Story; long story). While not exactly mean, he was not the friendliest little bugger, either. Even though I was not all that fond of him, i still cried when I took him to be put down because of pain from hip dysplasia (he was also pretty old by then).

I had a friend and her husband that that had a couple of the most adorable, little poodles who were also very well trained. A woman and her wife I used to sing with in a Chorale I used be in had a very well trained Standard Poodle.

When I was in fourth grade, I carpooled to school with a family that had a Standard Poodle. Now that dog was downright goofy and a bit of a pill. The darned thing got loose once when my Mama dropped the kids in the carpool off and chased us down the block and right out into heavy traffic. Another time, he was int a relative's house across the street and we watched him quickly destroy the Venetian blinds.

I was at the top of Camelback Mountain in Phoenix once and a couple came up with a white Standard Poodle and a black one. Both were very friendly and well trained (so was the couple). Someone else up there asked what would happen if they ever had pups and the reply was, "Polka dots".

Poodles are usually extremely intelligent and very trainable but their personalities can vary quite a bit from dog to dog. two things I like about them, besides their intelligence and personality, is they do not shed (which is why they have to be clipped from time to time but, at least, you can pick when and where the hair is going to go) and they are hypoallergenic.

Yeah, I like the idea of non-shedding dogs, but can't bring myself to actually care that much in the end. If I had allergies then maybe it'd mean more. We've always had dogs with a nice personality, and TBH I'm the kind of person that would work on them until they changed if not... just this last week with my sister's dog for instance. He doesn't like his paws being touched, which I forgot, but he needed to be towelled dry (which he likes), and when I got to his paws and lifted them he did a low growl each time, so I told him "No!", and proceeded each time.... and actually did it more than necessary to make a point that I will do what I want/need to do with him. He's a very affectionate dog and loves cuddles, so I made sure to give him a good cuddle afterwards too. Unfortunately my sister doesn't know what to do with him when he exhibits strange or unruly behaviours, he WON'T go for a walk for instance as he doesn't like the traffic.. when he comes down for another visit in 8 weeks time I'll try to work with him on it, by that time Dinky should be up to a fair enough distance to make it a fair ways.

She's settled in now by the way :)

She is missing Charlie though, as my sister picked him up yesterday as they're back from their latest cruise... then in 8 weeks she's off for another 2 week cruise, so I'll get him again. Her cage is arriving tomorrow, which will swamp her at 36", but she'll grow into it. She's such a confident little girl, new noises don't faze her at all, she didn't pay any attention to the vacuum cleaner, other than a glance to see what it was. Which I am pleased with, as our families dogs tend to either go with chasing it or running the other way from it :D

I now have her eating solids properly, she got bored of the soaked biscuits... but loves chicken, as do most dogs. So on Chicken and kibble for now, with a little pasta thrown in for the main meal... and will cut her down to 2 meals when she's a little bigger.

I have a friend that used to have a chow/german shepherd mix (think 100lb bulldozer). She had to take the dog to a vet to get her nails clipped because the dog wouldn't let her do it. Vets were afraid of her so they had to anesthetize her (the dog, not my friend) before they would clip her nails (again, the dog). Since I got along well with the Tyler (again, the dog), she asked me to try clipping the dogs nails.

It only took a couple of hours. I would position myself between the dog's head and the paw I was going to work on, then quickly clip a nail. Then I would spend the next five or ten minutes calming Tyler down enough to clip the next nail. She never snapped at me; she just tried to head out for the next county (we have big counties in AZ). I always rewarded tyler with a walk after that (fortunately, I'm a big broad and she couldn't drag me; she eventually learned to quit trying).

Prince, my ex's second poodle, was terrified the first time I put him on a leash to walk him shortly after we got him as a pup. It was after dark since I had to rest up after getting home from work and it was too darned hot during the day. Every other pup I leash trained would fight the leash at first but would quickly give in to a steady pull of the leash. Not this little guy. He firmly planted all four of his little paws and would actually let me drag all four along when I tugged the leash hard enough.

Since I didn't want to wear his little legs off by dragging them over the concrete sidewalk, I would have to crouch down, and call him to me while gently pulling on the leash. Once I got him to me, I would walk to end of the leash, then it was rinse and repeat. This worked fine until we got to the dark opening of an alley. He wanted absoulutely nothing to do with going there.

This went on for three or four nights until he responded well to the leash but would put on the brakes when we came near the alley opening so I switched directions and tried taking him around the block in the other direction. That he was OK with, even when we reached the other end of that alley when rounding the end of the block (a street light across the street from the alley opening lit it up well). When we went back up the other side of the block and came to the alley opening that had previously terrified him, he pranced right on by it like it was nothing. From then on, he never was terrified by the dark alley opening, no matter which direction we were walking. He was my walking buddy from then on until my divorce.

Yeah, dogs can have some weird hang-ups... I'm happy to say I don't think we'll have that problem with Dinky. She is very feisty and strong willed, she'll have a frustrated growl and bite of your hand if she doesn't like what you're doing, LOL... she gets corrected of course, but it takes time, certainly more than 4 days we've had her now. She is such an extrovert, if anything I think her problem might be going after other dogs and such, I'm keeping an eye on her for the signs to see if she's a houdini type too, that likes to escape.

She's learnt "sit" already, and responds to her name more now... she still is more focused on whether someone is in the kitchen though thinking she might get food :D

She will NOT be getting scraps or anything like that, just her food and some training treats for now, then maybe some bigger treats when she's older depending on whether she's been good etc. I want her to have a healthy life and enjoy exercise... she seems to love it so far, although she's reluctant when it's cold out, so we have to take her out rather than calling as she just watches us from the doorway if not.

She's been sleeping better the last few nights except when she needs to go out, as she had diarrhea unfortunately. I'm rostered on again for keeping her company tonight, so no bed for me.... we're gonna see how she gets on with the cage for a few days to see if she accepts it OK, and doesn't start punishing us by rolling in her feces or something ?

You can take a look at all of the Tech that I own and have owned over the years in my About Me section and on my Profile.

I'm Swiss and my Mother language is Swiss German of course, I speak the Aargauer dialect. If you want to watch a great video about Swiss German which explains the language and outlines the Basics, then click here.

If I could just play Videogames and consume Cool Content all day long for the rest of my life, then that would be sick.
