i7 9700K

DylanDB

Hi guys,

Just installed my pc with the specs :

i7-9700K

z390 Aorus Pro Motherboard

Scythe Mugen 5 PCGH edition

Now my question is, it feels like the temps are a bit high.. It reaches around 70 degrees in csgo, and when i'm just on windows, only having teamspeak open and steam, the temps go like this (https://gyazo.com/3d1e6ab9d55b9e076ce9d682b626faa3) , is this normal?

From first glance the cooler is probably too small, that is a toasty CPU. CSGO isn't a very demanding game, I can run it well on my doo doo CPU. You'll probably want a beefier cooler, after all, this CPU is 8 cores on the fabrication process as the 6700k which had 4 cores..

Not really, at load to should go no higher than 80. You can go into the BIOS and adjust the fan curve.

I was thinking about getting an Corsair H115i Pro RGB Platinum aio cooler.. would that fit it good?

So not normal? And what could cause the temps to fluxuate that hard at "idle"?

Yeah, thats a great cooler. That'll give you room for overclocking if you want to do that. You have a fantastic motherboard to overclock.

Should i use the pre applied thermal paste of it? Or take it off and use own thermal paste?

Yeah, you're right. I just feel like this air cooler isn't really enough for a 9700k. If @DylanDB is ok with a louder PC then thats fine.

maybe just backround tasks, the main reason is probably that it is designed to go at really slow speeds to be silent, soo turn it up in the BIOS

Go and increase the fan curve in the BIOS. That just make it so your cooler's fans spin faster when the CPU gets hotter.

The BIOS of the Aorus mobo's are pretty shit so you might have to do some digging.

Yeah that's the one.

Could it be i didnt apply thermal paste good? Any example of how thermal paste should look like after running for a while? If you know what i mean?

HAVE YOU TRIED TURNIGN IT UP IN THE BIOS YET, THAT IS PROBABLY THE PROBLEM

No, unless you didn't put on enough paste, you should be fine. A rice size grain is usually enough. He did say that it's probably because the cooler may be designed to be quiet by default, so the fans are spinning slow to stay silent, thus increasing temps.

It is at 600 RPM right now, and it has the 30-40 degrees "idle"
