My head hurts...

So, is it safe to say that RAM amount and quality is more important than the SSD itself?

Of course the RAM is more important than an SSD in games.

No debate about this!

"black" .... ? Not sure what that is. I have a HDD 1T for storage and maybe to get me started just to get the build up and running.

Black are the fast ones

Got ya! thanks. The "B" designation on the case is probably what you are referring too? If so got that one.

I think I am more confused about which chip set platform would suit me better AMD or Intel. I might be able to push it  to an i7 8700k or Ryzen 7 2700 so long as I do not create a bottle neck with a sub $200 mobo and memory that I is not top of the line. I forgot to mention that wife and I might like to try VR after the system is up and running a well established ( ie, everything works as it should ). Not sure if my parts choice will need to change for that setup.

AIO for around $80 - 100? Not a good price/quality point?

No, normal "Aircooler" are more reliable.

THough they might loose a bit performance over the years

Right now I'd invest most in the Board and Memory and get the cheapest CPU that makes sense and save money for Ryzen 3000 series.

So a very common mainstream Board from a reputable brand (ASROCK, MSI, if you can live with higher power consumption maybe ASUS) makes more sense than wasting the money on the CPU...

And the 8700k is in a completely different price class than the 2700!
We're talking like 250€ for the AMD Chip vs. 450€ for the INtel.

The 1700 is around 100€ Cheaper than the 2700, wich is rediculously expensive.

The 2600 is also around 130-150€ as well.

The reason for saving on the CPU is that in a couple of months there will be the Ryzen 3000 series wich is just soo much better than what we have right now that it is most logical to plan for that and get a good board (if possible w/o PCIe switches) and waste the money on good memory than to get the best CPU...

Because in that benchmark that AMD has shown a couple of days ago, an 8 core Ryzen 3000 beat an i9-9900K. And i'd expect lower prices...

Doesn't really affect the components either...
