My head hurts...

IronRick

So it's been 20+ years since I last gamed as a serious hobby. Now that I'm older the  learning curve is steep on the latest technology and my patience and time is limited. I currently have a nice NZXT i700 case (red), 1TB storage hard drive, and gtx 1080 ( Zotoc ) gpu. I anticipate being a casual to moderately serious gamer playing mostly FPS games. I Stream alot of video content. Also the usual many open tabs of stock sites, music, etc etc.. I did do alittle oc'ing back in the day but I'm not much of techie these days. So I"m ISO a great to best CPU/mobo/memory setup that will be kick ass on the games but will be a minimum of tinkering and no issues streaming video etc.

So can you guys chime in and help to end my migraine from researching and failing to come up with a solid combo....

Cheers!

A budget is helpful, but I'll throw some general recommendations your way.

If you're looking for streaming and gaming performance, can't go wrong with a Ryzen 7 CPU. Massive core/thread count per dollar, you'll only get a thread count match on the i9 9900k (and the majority of people don't really set their sights on that expensive beast, but if you can afford it then go for it.)

A quality X470 motherboard in the process range of $150 to $170 is a solid choice for both features and performance, so if you need something like more PCIe storage and USB ports, good board layouts, etc. then it's what you want to consider.

16GB of high speed ram is my recommendation, DDR4 3200 is quite nice to pair with Ryzen.

I see that you already have an HDD so an SSD would also be helpful for system responsiveness. (It's honestly not even a gaming PC without an SSD, I'm such an elitist I know;)

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Hello Rick! welcome to the forums!

For gaming I would recommend either a i7-8700 Non-unlocked as it seems you don't want to bother with that: https://www.amazon.com/Intel-i7-8700-Desktop-Processor-Cores/dp/B07598HLB4/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1547238146&sr=1-3&keywords=i7+8700

For a mobo I would recommend a gigabyte B360M: https://www.amazon.com/GIGABYTE-B360M-DS3H-LGA1151-Motherboard/dp/B07BQ9SSH7/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1547238103&sr=1-4&keywords=lga+1151+motherboard

For your memory I woul go with  a 2x8gb set of corsair vengance ram: https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-3000MHz-Desktop-Memory/dp/B0134EW7G8/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1547238066&sr=1-3&keywords=ddr4+ram+16gb

If you have a higher budget You could go with a more expensive mobo but at the moment that should be a pretty good system.

I have an Anet A8 as my project printer and a i3 MK3 for when I want things to work.

I extrude my own filament and haven't saved a penny yet.

My PC:

Spoiler

CPU: Intel i7 8700k

Motherboard: MSI Z370-A Pro

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V (2x8GB) DDR4-3200

GPU: GTX 1070 Founders Edition (OC'd)

Storage: 2x 2TB Seagate 5400RPM, 128GB ADATA SSD

Power Supply: EVGA Supernova 750w  B2

Game load times are irrelevant, you're saying?  Come on, I know you don't mean that.  Especially on heavily modded games or any that have loading screens ingame like MMO's or open world or games with levels, etc.

For streaming while playing, you want a high core count and at least 16GB of RAM as said above.

I've had massive loading time differences in Destiny 2 when I put in on my SSD. I have a WD Black HDD.

I don't have to google it, I lived it.  When I moved all my games to a SSD from a HDD, I noticed load times drop significantly.  Ark went from 15 minutes to 5, thats worth it alone.  Everquest zone loading dropped.  All other games have initial load times dropping as well cutscene loading times drop, etc.

I'm arguing your point about SSD's being useless, when you then say they have a noticeable difference.  Even if it's only upon initial load, it's worth it.  But it's not just there, it's any time their drive access.  It's just a nice quality of life improvement.

No one here would judge you if you just wanted to game on your machine. It seems like over-compensating?

Maybe use a high quality air cooler instead of liquid cooler for that budget, if you're concerned with value over looks. Be quiet dark rock pro 4 or noctua NH-D15 are superb performers.

For gaming I would recommend

I wouldn't because of what we know about the AMD Ryzen 3000 series right now, It'd be a waste of money, though its a bit away. And "normal people" don't need that anyway.

So its better to go for a mid range, cheapish 2600 and replace it in 6months, if the Board gets a BIOS...

I would recommend against AIO stuff because they are freaking expensive and not the most reliable thing.

So a good quality Noctua NH-D15 is making more sense. Especially since there is nothing that really goes wrong with the heatsink.
