Is it simple to transfer a sim card to another phone?

Just today I received the unlocked Honor 8x that I bought, and I'm having troubles transferring my sim card successfully. I use tracfone for the carrier. After I install the sim from my old one to the new one, the card is detected, but I have no service. I had a quick chat with customer support saying I should have a strong signal in my area, and that my card is active (which I already new). Should this be as simple as changing sim cards, or is there something else I had to do? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Edit: The card works fine after trying it in my old phone.

If the phone supports the frequency and band of your carrier you should be able to connect to it, maybe check your cellular band settings to see what is available.

Mak sure you reboot your phone

Aside from what enderman and jurunio said..you should really check wheteher the phone is really unlocked or not..and if its confirmed then you should check for your IMEI by dialing *#06# if the IMEI is unknown then that is the problem..also check for your baseband version under your phone settings usually in about phone..if its also unknown then its either a bad firmware or the certain hardware is damaged or just..not working properly.

When I attempt to dial, it reads "Mobile network not available." However, I see the IMEI in the settings. There is a known baseband version.

After some light research I see that tracfone offers 3G 900/1800 MHz, and 4G 700MHz, Band 13/1900 MHz, Band 2

The Honor 8x appears to support 850, 900 (EGSM), 1800 (DCS), and 1900 (PCS) for GSM.  I would assume I could have LTE 1900 MHz, but how would I check my settings? I'm not yet used to the lay out of the newer android OS.

 

 

Also, I've noticed that my phone reads my phone number.

I am pretty sure that those settings are made automatically depending on what signal is available with the current sim card. Like said before by the others, just double that the bands are the same, not frequencies.
