[ended] AMD CES 2019 Keynote Livethread!

someone should make a thread on the CPU updates, lol o_o

So apparently, in an interview with PCWorld, Lisa Su hinted at the possibility that Ryzen 3xxx may have more cores.

Of course, this isn't concrete confirmation, but it does add fuel to the speculation.

Beat me to posting the PCWorld article, but have this Anandtech one about NO chiplet APU, at least not for this generation.

    • It's the same as the Radeon Instict MI50
    • 25% more perf at same power
    • +30% in content creation, +62% in OpenCL, over Vega 64
    • $699

    • Zen 2, 14nm IO + single(?) 7nm core (space for two?)
    • 8c CPU demoed on stage; slightly beats (unlimited) 9900k at cinebench (2043cb 9900k vs 2057cb 3rd gen Ryzen) while being at lower power (180W 9900K vs 130W 3rd gen Ryzen)
    • PCIe 4.0
    • Drop-in upgrade to existing motherboards (but... PCIe 4.0 how? o_o)

... sorry I lost track of the AMD hype train ,_,

Things to expect:

Quote
  • Stage demos of the AMD Chromebooks
  • 2nd-wave Ryzen APUs (they're still 3000, but keep in mind they're probably on Zen+)
  • Ryzen 3000 Desktop spec/performance teasers?
  • this just in: X570 (thanks @GoldenLag!)
  • Vega 7nm or Navi? (can't remember)
  • Threadripper 3000 image teasers?
  • MOAR COARS
  • MOARGUMENTS

Quick rumor table of the Ryzen 3000 stack so far (although people are backing this as good as leaks)

AdoredTV:

I'll be definitely upgrading from the 6800K I currently have ._. but I'm aiming for threadripper 3000 ,_,

Nevertheless if the rumored leaks are to be true, multicore muscle from Haswell-E onwards will be completely laughable relative to it (not accounting for single-threaded performance, of course. those will still matter, but once someone figures out how to divvy up hard-to-split tasks...)

also kinda curious if there will be delidded shots of the CPU. Zen 2 EPYCs are on the chiplet design, so I'm wondering how would it actually be on AM4 (or would they separately fab something with bigger but fewer sections? o_o)

Just want to point that I called vega 7nm for gaming. So either I'm right or we get Navi, I'm happy either way

AMD has been waffling on whether to release a Vega 7nm. I honestly think they should do a limited run and give it some premium branding. It should come in around the 2080 range for performance, so charge 849USD for the Vega 2 LE (limited edition). Put a nice black & silver shroud on it and call that your high-end until Big Navi arrives.

the fact that people are saying it was cancelled late into production ramp makes me hopeful we see navi announced with possibly the sale of the limited number they already made in an edition like your idea.

but little did we know, intel secretly has a 16core i9 that they are hiding... just to say heheh to AMD after they release it... and scare us all with a 400 USD price tag... and completely revamp their entire line, and fucked over all of the people who just overspent for the 9900k

if this happens to counter AMD, i will sell my PC, buy a 300 dollar internet browser, and quit forever.

Worst case is a May launch. We're getting enough ES showing up that this is probably a late March/early April. That suggest we'll get just an announcement and maybe Lisa holding the chip. Which, just doing that, will send the speculation through the roof.
