I don't really understand why more people don't use mATX in their builds and go directly to mITX or just ATX. mATX gives you the best of both worlds with a compact size while still allowing for plenty of expansion.

Lack of case and motherboard selection mainly. There are only 4 mATX offerings with the Z390 chipset, only 2 of which have built-in Wi-Fi. There are zero AMD B450 mATX boards with built-in Wi-Fi.

mATX is alive and well, as it's just the cheap version of ATX in many cases

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

My favorite thing about mATX is the 16x PCIE slot right under the I/O. I'd love to go SLI, but with the empty space above the top 16x slot on ATX I don't have enough space with my current config.

There is a huge difference between a mATX case compared to mITX in terms of size.  Really the smallest mATX case is a 15L-18.5L while a good mITX case that can still support a full sized GPU can be 7L-13L.  Sure mATX offers more options in terms of features and even performance but for most people mITX is more than enough

I would argue mATX is a good choice for most people already doing ATX builds. There was a time when I used ATX and even XL-ATX when multi-GPU, internal sound cards, capture cards, etc. were still relevant, but most builds these days use single GPU and maybe 1 expansion card at most.
