LTT Video titles

My problem isn't the clickbaity titles 

 

My problem is THEY NEVER GET CHANGED TO THE PRODUCT NAME LATER! 

Seriously can we compromise and actually rename the videos after a couple of weeks so...idk...someone searching for the product watches it? 

And the excuse I hear that "it's in the thumbnail" doesn't work for half of these because there's NO text in the thumb. 

I have no idea that this is a Surface Laptop 2


Or that this is a ZenBook Pro


I know this is a caselabs  THW10 and the one on the right is that one silverstone one but how the hell would other people? 
 

These are the kinda thumbs that if I'm searching for these products I'd just skip if I didn't know it was LTT. I picked these somewhat at random, but it was hard because I didn't even know if half the thumbnails were for fucking product reviews or not so I basically just grabbed the ones I had watched. 

For those who don't have floatplane, here's a comparison

Would it kill yall to add it in like a month later? Really? You'd just have to do one a day after you catch them up.

It's like they leave it ambigious on purpose, like they know  adding "Product name X" doesn't pull in more viewer, rather subtracts because without the product name people are left wondering what the review will be.

Also, it's still very difficult to see what the product is; because for example laptops looks so similar nowadays (of course I can recognize the Razer logo.. Or understand with the date of the video the Microsoft Surface Studio would be a Studio 2..), so especially in the (near) future these videos will not stand out at all to new viewers.

This works very well for videos that are featured and really helps drive new videos.

Fully agree. At least have the decency to include the product being talked about in the title.

If I was just looking for info on a product, I sure as hell wouldn't click on a clickbaity title when I don't even know if it will be about the product I'm looking for in the first place. 
No wonder their latest video about the RTX 2060, is over 20 videos down when searching for "rtx 2060".

 

Take a hint from the way Jayz does it.

"THIS is the way RTX SHOULD have launched... RTX 2060"
 

A title that include his thoughts on the product like LTT, plus the name of the product! 
It's also the very first video that comes up when searching for "rtx 2060" or "is rtx 2060 worth it".

The titles like this? Yeah, I understand for the average viewer they do.

The viewer from 2 or 3 months from now it doesn't attract though, as it is not on the YouTube trending page anymore.. These are the people browsing recommended or searching for specific product reviews.

Someone three months from now is not gonna look at a video title 'Microsoft is infuriating' and think it's a Surface Studio review; but rather some other generic rant.

he has been an alternative to those who just miss some simpler PC build videos, not too much into many reviews now. I mainly watch those of Paul's Hardware after reading a couple written ones.

This has been an issue with LMG video's for a while. It happened multiple times that i know LTT has a video about something but I can't find it so i usually end up with a video from someone else.

 

It's their loss tbh, if they don't make it easy for me to find back older video's I'm not going to invest extra time in it when i can find other video's that are just as good about the same thing on other channels.

I don't even watch LTT on youtube now, which means I miss most aside from the wan show if I don't happened to be using the forum and floatplane. 

That said I know we're in the minority for the first wave.

then i guess the question is, why does youtube reward vague as fuck video titles? how broken is the algorithm that it needs to show videos with non-descriptive titles over something that actually gives an indication of what you're about to watch? how does it benefit anyone?

They could maybe put the name in the thumbnail, as many other channels do, though this probably won't make the video easier to find.

Yeah no there are countless Youtubers with non clickbait thumbnails and titles that are meaningful that pull in a substantial amount of views. To me all it says is LTT is greedy and care more about money than actually providing a decent experience with the content. I would give $5/month or buy merch from LTT if they had quality titles and thumbnails. Sadly it's shit and I no longer watch LTT

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Beautiful thumbnails and averages 600,000 views per video. Also has a real job on the side

 

^^^^^^^^ Uses moderate facial clickbait but makes up for it with useful title and what it is in the thumbnail too. Also way more in depth

LTT manages to make it onto trending so I have no clue why they still use clickbait. Take the hit now or you are going to be disappointed when Youtube changes and all your actual fans have left.

Here's the thing.  It seems to me that youtubers that do well do a few things.  They post videos regularly, they have eye catching thumbnails and they have good content to back it up.  

 

LTT does the first thing and the last thing.  However, with Linus as a front man how is he eye catching?  How to put this delicately and in a way that will not take the conversation to a bad place. 

 

To borrow a line from Star Trek Enterprise "You have to be seen to be noticed".  The character who said this was about to wear a colorful Hawaiian shirt down the a vacation planet for shore leave.   Linus ... unlike the examples you gave would not get noticed if he did nothing to be seen.  His behavior on camera makes him  noticeable.  Which will get people to watch that first time.  Then we see the quality of LTT's content and that keeps people watching.   His thumbnails are like a guy in a Hawaiian shirt looking to stand out from the crowd.

Yeah but this is Youtube. People go to the site to look something up. The only ones who end up in endless watching suggested videos are mostly kids

You give the average person too much credit.  The average person is average.  People on the LTT forum are going to be the top 1/3 of the bell curve when it comes to technical things.  We at the very least have some idea of what we want.  

 

Lots of people are just semi interested in tech (or any other topic) and want to be entertained.

i don't think I've ever watched something based off the thumbnail alone. and if it's a channel I don't follow, if there is a clickbait title, i purposely don't click it, i don't want to reward that shit.

I'm new here, had been watching LTT for a few weeks and thought I'd check out the forum for some questions I had.

 

I don't know how the channel used to be, but I enjoy the content.

The titles are pretty annoying, I agree, but their purpose is to get many clicks at release, not to help someone looking for info on a product down the line.

 

I also agree with the suggestion to change the titles after a set period of time to keep the videos relevant in the long run, but the gain to the channel is probably not worth the effort.

 

And maybe there's no reason to get so worked up about it either way, not running out of people reviewing things in a less fun and more professional way for when you need it

Plus they have this forum for that kind of stuff.

For sure.. They have said multiple times they are an entertainment channel and not a review channel anymore (and before that, not an unboxing channel) and this just further solidifies that.

Can you believe even their forum posts use the same type of clickbait inviting titles??? Well, some. Some have the product name listed behind it; but it's anything but consistent.

 

But the LTT Official sub forum is also littered with giveaways and other non-video things so it's hard to browse.. And not all videos get a thread (like some of the CES videos don't, it seems).

I think we can agree that we all just watch LTT for some quick entertainment. If you want in-depth content and accurate titles you can always watch GN  LTT isn't about that and that's ok.
