What MoBo for i9-9900k ocing?

Hi

I'm planning a i9-9900k build and I've been having a hard time deciding on what MoBo I should get. I will be pushing that i9 to 5.1GHz.

 

I've been looking at 3 motherboards.

Asus maximums XI hero z390

Gigabyte Aorus master z390

MSI meg ace z390

 

All of theese are in my price range of 200-300 USD

But I need help to choose which one, as I said, I will be overclocking and I heard that the Asus MoBo has weaker vrm than the other two?

So which one do you guys think is best?

The Aorus Master is the obvious choice since it has the best VRM and power solution and the best BIOS support (people dislike a bit the Gigabyte BIOS because of the kinda oldish style UI however in stability terms it's one of the best in the market).

 

The worse and most overpriced one of the bunch is the Hero XI which actually features entry level z370 VRM and power phases solution.

 

ASUS No longer does high quality components, they are living off their brand name and marketing nowadays, with what is the most overpriced products currently.

 

MSi Meg Ace is usable but considering the Aorus Master is an option like I said it becomes obvious... that's where the most value is located at.

MSI has a few Mobo's man that are probably ok. 

 

Something there or turn to the EVGA.


2600x 4.3ghz-Loop

Msi X470 gaming plus

EVGA SuperSC CL16 3200 16gb

gtx 1060

pny nvme 480gb

mushkin eco3 480gb

Sound Blaster Audigy FX

Cooler Master GXII Pro 750w.

I was in the same situation, did a tonne of research, and I ended up picking the Aorus Master, that is what I think is best. The pros like the VRM and many features outweighed any of the cons I read about such as the bios (which isn't that bad).

 

And so far, I haven't had any regrets.

Yes the Asus board has the worst VRM thermals, so even more problems to deal with after solving the 9900k issue (like you cant push 1.4V to it like you do on 8700k, the temperature will shoot through Tjmax easily).

 

In terms of VRM thermals then the Aorus Master beats the other 2, since the MSI Ace board is roughly 80% as good. That said MSI board overclocks memory better (past 4266, Gigabyte struggles but MSI doesnt).

SiC639 is a high end part, Asus just didn't use enough of them

By entry level solution they could have used the Z390-H's 4C09B and 4C06B, thankfully they stopped doing that.

Thanks guys, I think I'll end up getting the Gigabyte board. I don't mind so much about it having worse memory ocing than the msi since I'll be running 3200mhz anyway. :)

On the other hand, I think I'll still go with the Aorus board mainly because I don't have the cooling to go further than possibly 5.2ghz and also I don't think I need that much power :D
