by the way: Lisa Su confirmed that Radeon is doing something for raytracing (most likely maximising off DXRT?) o_o hopefully there'd be at least some roadmap news on Computex ._.

I think most people expected AMD to respond with some sort of similar technology or compatibility for ray-tracing. Although it seems like they have plenty of time to work on it because there still isn't a title that's worth playing with ray tracing enabled.

He will probably recommend people to not delid it.

I didn't do any kind of recap of my own because I was out all day. Since everything major has been announced and people have left CES already, I plan to do a recap of major announcements tomorrow (actually today because it is almost 2 AM here). I will say I am really impressed with 3rd gen Ryzen (just upgraded my dev box to 2nd gen Ryzen (2600) a few months back). When I do the refresh of my main rig next year (I am going for a 3-year refresh cycle, it was completed in the current config Spring 2017) I may use Ryzen instead of Intel.

Personal Rig:

CPU: i7-7700K  | Mobo: MSI C236A Workstation | RAM: 2x G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 8GB = 16 GB  | GPU: ASUS GTX 1070 Strix | Storage: Samsung 970 Evo 256 GB, WD Blue 1 TB, WD Red 2 TB, and WD Scorpio Blue 320 GB | Case: Enermax Ostrog Black and White | PSU: EVGA 600B 600W 80+ Bronze | Cooling: Noctua NH-U12S in Push/Pull with Black Noctua Industrial Fans, 2 120mm Noctua Chromax Fans, and Corsair AF120 on the side panel | Display: 22" Asus VE228 1920 x 1080 and a 34" LG 43WL500-B 2560 x 1080 on a WALI Arm (I share displays/desk with two builds) | Mouse: Logitech M705 | Keyboard: Logitech K350 | Random: 90mm of CableMod RGB Magnetic Strips | OS: Win 10 Education x64

32" Samsung CF397 1920 x 1080

Linux/test Box:

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600  | Mobo: ASRock AB350M mATX | RAM: 2x Crucial 8 GB DDR4 = 16 GB | GPU: Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Storage: Sandisk SSD Plus 120 GB, Kingston 256GB SSD, 2x Seagate IronWolf NAS Drives  | Case: Corsair Carbide 88R mATX | PSU: Corsair CX500 | Cooling: Stock Cooler and 3x Cooler Master 120mm Fans | Display: 22" Asus VE228 1920 x 1080 and a 34" LG 43WL500-B 2560 x 1080 on a WALI Arm (I share displays/desk with two builds) | Keyboard: Logitech K270 | Mouse: Logitech M185  | OS: Ubuntu 18.04 and Windows 10 Pro x64

Laptop (Acer Pedator Helios 300):

CPU: i7-7700HQ  | RAM: 16 GB DDR4  | GPU: GTX 1060 6 GB | Storage: 256 GB SSD and Seagate 1 TB Firecuda | Display: Acer IPS 15.6" 1920 x 1080 Display | Mouse: Logitech M557 and built-in trackpad (never use lol) | Keyboard: built-in keyboard and Logitech K480 | OS: Windows 10 Pro x64

oh cool. I'm thinking to condense the OP into a separate roundup comment too. I'll include yours in the OP when you finish!

Day 5 Updates - 2019.01.11

mainly videos this time ,_, not sure how much longer I can go

That's what today seemed like. Anything released for the most part in the coming days will probably be redundant. I can see why a lot of people don't stay the last day (especially the people that mainly covered the show floor).

yeah, traditional outlets (gizmodo et al) usually set aside a strict week for that. youtube channels usually spread them out over two weeks or so

same thing happened for computex last year. the only difference here was just how much was being posted on Day 2/3 actually o_o maybe due to just how many genres of stuff was at CES

the A1 is already a thing I think? o_o the 905 I'm less sure about

the 928 seems to be the only thing new from InWin. definitely love the look

The A1 Plus is new, it has addressable RGB and a 650w gold vs 600w bronze PSU.

all 3 are not public on their site, I found them by manually guessing the URL.

okay just gonna go ahead with this. (this might feel a bit incoherent, lol)

If 5-ish days of CES 2019 all happened at once, here's the interesting scraps from the pile (at least to me)

Nvidia: 2060, Adaptivesync, Boatloads of RTX on Laptops

Intel: Core-KF CPUs without iGPUs, lost of X599 system concepts, uhh... something about Whiskeylake on Laptops?

AMD: Vega 7, millions came too early for Ryzen news (at least we know how the layout of Ryzen 3000 would be!)

Laptop awards:

pVsgu93m.pngiqe6Wv2m.pngwPJuwsrm.pngN6kqRgRm.png8T7UENCm.pngszhWEnbm.png

  • ROG Mothership wins the Mindshare Zerg Rush Award for pre-shipping the system to reviewers A MONTH BEFORE CES
to be fair, feature demos feel better when reviewers have their own time and space for it ._.
  • ZenBook S13 UX392 wins the WHY Award for having a negative-notch for the camera that pokes out of the rectangular outline of the laptop
  • Alienware 51m wins the Good luck with upgrading that GPU Award for doing something in-house that no one outside of Dell knows how to build alternatives for
  • Nvidia wins the Default Award for RTXing every laptop manufacturer out there (possibly minus Huawei?) because the alternative isn't here
  • oh right, Huawei wins the Abstain Vote Award for their decision to be low-key this year
  • AMD wins the Both Ends of the Scale Award for spawning both the HP AMD Chromebook and the All-AMD TUF FX505
  • Samsung Notebook Odyssey wins the Sleeper Agent Award for having so few review outlets covering it firsthand?! (I probably dropped the ball here ,_,)
    • Award to be shared with the Samsung DESKTOP Odyssey despite not being a laptop
  • Gigabyte Aero 15-X9 wins the Shockingly Mundane use of ML Award for optimising performance/power draw with AI. While requiring a connection to Microsoft Azure
  • Razer Blade OLED concept wins the Silver Lining Award for still being in custody of its owners
  • Everyone else wins the Refresh Award for padding out laptop announcements

The CES 2019 PC:

wFV6urkm.pngOLgxsram.pngFJRyGk0m.png

  • CPU: the unknown 8c16T Ryzen 3000 CPU
  • Motherboard: ASUS X599 ROG DOMINUS (just steal it from any one of the exhibits)
  • GPU: that RTX 2080 MXM module
  • RAM: Thermaltake's "It's aesthetics only, Steve, we swear!" RAM kits
  • CPU Cooler: The Alphacool Eisball
  • Storage: Patriot's m.2 RGB stick
  • Case: The Q500L GamersHardware PaulNexus edition (free HardwareCanucks replacement)
    • if too expensive: grab a Thermaltake airflow case from the backroom
  • Power Supply: FSP 900W redundant power supply (I know, it's not new)
  • Case Fans: Bell Nexus
  • Display: LG's Rollable TV (so you don't have to buy a window blind)
  • Mouse: Razer Hypersense mouse (bring the console controller to the desktop)
  • Keyboard: anything from Thermaltake's booth
  • Headset: Vizio Soundbar
  • Mic: just scream into the room. surely Alexa would pick it up for you

POST Error: Return to Sender

PC Hardware Tags: White Case, X599 SYSTEM PLS, Rainbow is not default neutral, WHERE'S THE 16-CORE CPU, woop, maybe they thought of it this morning, non-validated, 240hz REFRESH

The WE CAME FOR THE ELECTRONICS, NOT FOR THE DESKTOP section

pxo93mzm.pngsNkm7nRm.pngrNSpEJGm.png

  • Royole Flexpai: looks like dummy display model (that's there because the real deal is too expensive to leave in public)
  • Throw that pupper a bone: ANYbotics delivery robot (not the yellow thing pictured here)
  • Troll bikers with commands: Cybic E-Legend
  • Alexa-powered toilet: AI purgatory
  • Conductor Practice: go ask Cemtrax
