DP 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 adapter

Botasky

How likely it is that there will be a DP 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 adapter that works? speculating of course, or if anyone has technical knowledge on this subject that will be great.

I'm thinking about getting a new display for my PC after I've seen how good HDR displays are, but is there is no big (34"+ 21:9 or 40"+ 16:9) good HDR monitor available, so the only way to go is TV, which in this year should be rolling out with HDMI 2.1 finally enough bandwidth to support 4K 10bits 444 at 60+ FPS. The problem is my 1070 only has DP 1.4 and HDMI 2.0, so to get the signal from my PC to the TV I'll need a DP1.4 to HDMI 2.1 adapter that can support the full bandwidth of both standards. How likely it is that such adapter will be available to the consumer?

i dont think that it would be possible to do that. but, i think there are adapters that can combine 2 hdmi 2.0 into 1 hdmi2.1

I think taking adapter makes no sense if you could afford a RTX 2070 extreme Gigabyte or further choosers of Turing then there are three would be 3 HDMI ports and if you wanted to play at 4k 60+FPS then go to any RTX 2080TI

I don't want to buy a new GPU because my 1070 SLI is still capable of running AAA game at 4k at 60+FPS High - Ultra setting, so just to spend another 1500 bucks on GPU to get an HDMI 2.1 is not worth it for me.

this is the best your going to get for now

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077JB28KM/ref=twister_B0784TP7M2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

4K 60Hz RGB/YCbCr 4:4:4, 8bpc, 4K 60Hz YCbCr 4:2:2, up to 12bpc, 4K 60Hz YCbCr 4:2:0, up to 16bpc

I hope they will update it when HDMI 2.1 is out, but with all monitors announcements from CES today I probably not going to need it.

Any chance linus could ask for a demo version or a development unit of the rtd2173 as he needs something for his new LG c9 to get 4k@120.

How could I get him to see the realtek rtd2173?

Best bet will be to buy a new 2020 GPU as they should have HDMI 2.1 on them.

I'll be getting a LG CX 48" OLED this year for PC use, and then also a 2020 GPU with HDMI 2.1 so i can run 4k 120hz.

Cant say i've seen anything beyond basic speculation tbh. But HDMI 2.1 is expected for sure.

Club 3d have announced they're releasing a displayport 1.4 to hdmi 2.1 adapter (cac-1185) and a USB type c to hdmi 2.1 adapter (cac-1585)

Both support gsync and 4k@120hz

Hey guys, just wanted to let you all know that the Club3D adapters WILL NOT support G-Sync, FreeSync, VRR. I've been in touch with them and they said that due to some technical issues, they will not be supporting those technologies in the adapters! Even in the catalog now, it says "Support for G-Sync, FreeSync and VRR bypass." which is quite misleading as it mentions all the technologies but then it says "bypass"... Very sneaky of them...

Also the HDMI2.1 name have been removed as it is not HDMI2.1 if there is no VRR...

Asrock X399 Taichi, AMD Threadripper 1950X, 32GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 3200MHz,
256GB Samsung PM961 nvme, 512GB Samcung 850 EVO SSD, 512GB Intel 5400S SSD,
nVidia GTX1080Ti FE, Cooler Master H500P case, Custom Water Cooling

Disappointing, but not really surprising. There's probably some sort of signal required that doesn't translate between HDMI and DisplayPort tech.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the current DP to HDMI adapters do it at 4k60 ? The VRR part I mean...

I couldn't find any google results to confirm this.

Oh well... maybe it is a signal translation issue...
On the other hand, according to an article in Anandtech regarding the Realtek adapter, It specifically mentions it as Displayport 1.4 to HDMI2.1 and to be HDMI2.1 certified it needs to have VRR. I guess we will have to wait and see...
