Aesthetics: Is it worth the money?

I did spend ages on cable management though as its important for good airflow.

I spend a few minutes managing the cables in a build to get stuff out of the way, though i won't go and make it look flashy with custom color matching sleeved cables since my case doesn't have a window on it. I think Cable management could be more important with a SFF build, but Luke tested that cable management doesn't matter very much for airflow.

Personally, I don't really mind. As long as everything's tidy enough to properly work, I don't care at all, although clean, polished systems are pretty nice to look at... :P

Make sure to tag and/or quote people so they get notified... :P:D

I do think it's worth the money. Of course it depends on the situation. If the budget was small I would likely get the core parts first and then work on the aesthetics later on.

When it comes to building a system for a client, we take it really seriously to cable manage properly. Presentation to the client as well as ease of access due to clean internal layout is really important for our customers, and our own systems reflect that design emphasis, but for a personal system I did used to have the spaghetti all over the place. It's not bad at all if your system is ugly and functional, it's part of the charm of a personal computer

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

I do not care about aesthetics. In fact, my goal when building a PC is for it to not be near me so neither I or anybody else can see (or hear) it.

Aesthetics are a fairly secondary focus for me, below functionality and performance. However I never skimp on any of the three, especially as I prefer to keep my PC sitting on my desk nearby.

I don't have the patience to sit there and route every cable perfectly with cable combs and such. I keep the cable gore to a minimum but I don't go out of my way for cable management.

The topic of aesthetics is inherently subjective because every single person has a different preference over what kind of aesthetic design choice their prefer. Some like to stick to a minimalist design while others want to desk their PCs out with RGB lighting to the point where it wouldn't look out of place in a lightclub.

Personally, my aesthetic philosophy is form meeting function. I like to make my stuff look good but only if they carry a function to back up their looks. My setup is fairly minimalist with only RGB lighting on the keyboard and mouse (and they're done so in a functional manner). Though the biggest highlight is my DIY bias lighting setup, which I specifically made to reduce eyestrain in darker environments.

My point is you imply aesthetic builds are out to prove something buts that's not always the case. You word it like you're hating on some kind of PC hipsters, which do exist. Personally no I don't think it's worth it, I'd much rather have something that worked well and was quiet than pay a premium for nothing more than some LEDs.

In that vein I use a sound muffling case so have no windows or visible fans anyway.

Personally, I don't care for lighting a case, I find it a waste of money that could be spent on better components. If you have a build costing around 1200, up to 200 of that could be lighting alone... That's enough to go from 16 to 32gb of very good high speed ram.

I'm not knocking those that like it, but it's only actual use is bragging rights and perceived status.of those that like it, and those that aspire to have it. It's a fashion statement built upon marketing to those swayed by such things.

The only time I get annoyed by it... is when p[people think that it makes their rig and them better than those who either don't want it or can't afford to waste money on frivolity... Those kinds of elitist f*ckwits can shove it.  ?

It's worth it if that what you want to do. Most of our gaming PC cost multiples of a current gen console, to mostly play the same games. We're already deep into discretionary purchase territory, so if you want to blow $/£/€200 in lights & stuff it's no ones business but yours.

Personally I like my small, unlit, black box, but that's just me. Carefully cable managed though, else I wouldn't have been able to fit everything in.

I've reached a point where I just want as much power and storage in as little of a footprint as possible while not being a total jet engine or running hot as fucc, so internal aesthetics are way down the list. Case in point is my current machine (mind all the dust on top, moved shit in my room and stirred up a lot somehow).

Guess you'd like my XP machine too, even though it looks significantly less full (partially due to the motherboard being a finicky bastard if I'm honest, it gets really complain-y about PCI IRQ's). Green PCB and cables for days.

I'm not worried too much about aesthetics, but that could now change since I have my first case with a side window.

Cable management I spend a few half-arsed moments on, but mostly to get the cables out of the main chamber, if it has one, or ensure that there are as few airflow restrictions in the main chamber, and the case can be closed.

I don’t run my box without side panels for two reasons. I have a cat and she’s a curious thing, and it reduces the audible fan noise.

The only lighting in my current case is the stuff that included in the components, though now with the window I may add some barely there light

Just a pair of 1266MHz Tualatins. I really want to get a much better graphics card (9600 Pro ain't all that good after all) for it as well as more than just 512MB of RAM and of course a better case that actually has both side panels, but aside from that it's a pretty stout little guy. Though a pair of 1400's wouldn't be a bad upgrade even though the 1266's are holding up just fine.

Ive never been bothered by aesthetics, as my computer is mainly under my desk and I cant see it in any case. I do however cable manage, in an almost ridiculous manner LOL. As others have said already, its good for airflow. I have to admit though Im a bit of a cable manage junkie as I'm the same with wiring under my desk. It has to be invisible or perfect.
