Building my first custom watercooling.

kri55

Hello,

Recently, my AIO Watercooling system has started to make some bubbling noise. I know I shouldn’t install it the way it is now (radiator on the bottom) but it worked fine for a couple of years. I am thinking of installing a custom system now. The goal is to keep the CPU happy with a minimal noise. I am ready to downclock a bit if needed.

I have attached my buying list and a schema on how I plan to do it. My specs are on the schema.

If any information is missing, please tell me.

I’d like some of your thoughts before ordering, any advices or suggestions are welcome.

Edit: My case has one fan location on the bottom (140mm) in the middle of the case. So, I choose to add another radiator there. There is not enough space for adding a 280mm on the top.

Edit 2:

Finally, I decided to put a radiator and a reservoir outside the case and I am going to watering the GPU.

I updated my buying list… it’s way more expensive now.

The radiator is overkill but it’s a long term buy.

Your thoughts are welcome.

Custom loop for a 120mm radiator is not worth it IMO. You would save yourself like 150$ getting a 120mm AIO like the Corsair H60 or H80. You would likely be better off getting a 240mm rad and adding it up top if you want to go custom loop instead of, in my opinion, waste money on 120mm.

Thanks for the response.

I will try to install a 280mm radiator. Because the fans on top my case are both 140mm.

Do you think it will fit? Are the holes spacing standard? Drilling the case is not an option for me.

Do you think the pump I choosed has enought power for that?

Did some research. It will not fit. Not because of the holes but the mobo is in the way.

Damn I was so hyped.

Edit: Updated first post.

Can you not just a do 280 on the bottom? And add the 120 on the rear if necessary?

Yeah it probably does to run a 280/360. mine can. and stick with 1/2"

It's more Trivial DIY shit...how you want to do it etc.

Really need a bigger and custom case for bigger pumps or the actual Rez.

But the Rez/pump combo is space saver...

Just do that tear a case up and make it work lol

If you are only cooling the CPU there isn't much point in a custom loop. A dual 120mm+ AIO will provide very reasonable temps.

If you still want to go for it, you can mount the 140/280 rad inside the case and mount the fans outside. Just need a hole in the case for the fan wires, and some dust filters to keep fingers and random objects from going into the fans.

@Mick Naughty: I have only one fan location on the bottom (140). I cannot fix one half of a 280mm because the location is in the middle and it won’t fit this way. The AIO (240mm) I’ve got now is not attached. I would like everything attached if possible and I don’t want to drill holes in the case.

@JRzoid wow that’s some massive radiator! is that coming from a car? it’s a good idea to put a radiator outside the case, think I will do that.

@caliusoptimus indeed mounting the fans over the top is a good idea. But I will go for an external solution.

Well if you are set are keeping the case, external is the only thing to make it worth it.

Too much work for just a cpu right now.
