well unless people want to start a class action against them all we can really do is cause a storm on somewhere like reddit or get it notices by mainstream media

This is concerning, especially since I got subnautica free through this. I only open the launcher when I am playing that and I don't plan to stream it. Should I buy it on steam instead?

I would definitely advise buying it on Steam or alternatively GOG.

Epic Games is owned by tencent which is known to work in cooperation with the Chinese government. The Chinese government being the same system that is widely known to spy on its citizens. In the TOS, it states that you give the right for Epic to send your data to tencent.
