I find it supremely useful. Plus you can always just play in standard 16:9, and use 21:9 when you want the expanded real estate. There's no downside to 21:9, really.

You should be able to see 21:9 UHD movies just fine on this though. technically It should have 1645 pixels in height to perfectly fit 21:9 UHD, but this is close enough that you'd see tiny black bars.

IIRC they're not the higher rez though, or 38"...

Yeah, they are lower res, but not by that much. Also, 34 v 38" isn't that big a difference, like a 55" TV to a 65"

I don't even notice the bezels anymore.

 

Although the bezels on my 4k monitor are thinner than the ones on my 1080p monitors. All I need is two more copies of my center panel and I'll be where I want.

The Predator has had competition. Hell, I bought the Alienware ultrawide over the Predator because reviews were better and essentially the same monitor. Even colors were apparently better. For the same price too.

Yet it's still a difference, and honestly it's pretty substantial when it comes to having two windows open on the same screen.

Higher res is still higher res. That's like saying 1440p isn't a huge jump from 1080p. It isn't, but it's still enough that people care.

You might not, it doesn't negate the effect.

If I had the space two monitors might be more enticing, but with limited space 21:9 just makes more sense...I really don't think I could go back.

It looks good to me. I have a 34 inch ultrawide, and it doesn't quite fill my entire field of view, at 38 inches it would. Though I am going to hold out on an upgrade until I can get MicroLED or OLED or at least HDR1000 cert. FALD.

The clincher here though is PPI. A 55" and 65" will be noticeably different in sharpness if sat same distance away... given the 55" will have more pixels in an inch of screen real estate. The resolution is unchanged, both being 4K... it's the PPI that differs.

 

A 34" vs 38" UW monitor on the other hand, due to the higher resolution of 38", will have the same PPI... 109 vs 110. This is a good thing as you won't have ANY loss in sharpness sat at the same distance from a 38" as you would be a 34". A 27" 1440p panel is also 109 ppi.

 

What's even more interesting here is how some people are getting all excited for the 43" 4K high refresh A-Sync Asus XG438Q... this will actually have a worse PPI at 104. So in reality, sat the same distance from a 27" 1440p monitor, won't look any better... yet will be MUCH harder to run. It's obviously going to offer greater immersion, and if you want to sit back a bit, yeah, there's something to be said for that... but you'll need a 2080Ti to get the most out of it, that's for sure.

 

Resolution in and of itself doesn't necessarily mean a great deal... PPI is what counts, and in line with that how far you sit from the screen. When it comes to PC monitors, most people will probably be fixed in that regard.

I cant justify 21:9 yet, I feel like there are just way too many games that dont support it yet and i dont they will until the amount of people using that format drastically increasing which I dont see happening for a while.

Sure, if you're looking at older titles. Most newer ones support it, and there's hundreds if not thousands of titles that natively support the 21:9 aspect ratio.
