And people were complaining about AMD's  RX 580 2048 SP model "omg its confusing" yeah right the king of confusing is nvidia.

These are just the launch models before all is said and done I predict they'll have at least another 6 because if you're going to be stupid, might as well be full fucking stupid and I personally trust Nvidia to give it their all and go FULL stupid.

Because it uses OpenGL and it's recommended by Cemu developers to use the emulator in Linux if you have an AMD card.

At this level the memory speed makes very little difference in the way of performance. The biggest difference is going to the the power consumption on gddr6 vs gddr5x. I mean there is about another 2gb of bandwitdh possible, but on this level card that isn't going to make a noticeable difference.

Whether these SKUs will succeed or not depends largely on their respective marketing and sales channels. Let's not go crazy here. There are strategies to handle each type of SKU according to each geography's demographic group. I don't think that merely seeing the SKU list is a good indicator of their strategy for the 2000 series product family.

Next time you're in a supermarket keep an eye on product labels, you'll notice that different brands often use different measures on the same products. When a customer is confused they tend to just buy the most expensive one they can afford and the companies make sure the product that's most likely to be is also the worst value for money.

That isn't happening here, they are all the same measurement. More choices are good for the consumer.

Good as long as they arent wildly missleading.

 

If they made 6 different iphone X's. Each with a different number behind it with obscure differences. Also add an + variant to them.

 

Would that be consumer friendly in any way?

yes. It would be great if there were 6 different iphones with different amount of ram/storage.

Thats not the case here. Its just different amount of ram and ram speed.
Well, different GPU clock speed too, but that has always been the case with the many different manufacturers.

If you have several different SKUs with different VRAM types, capacities and even bandwidth, I'd say that's not good for the consumer as well, because it makes it wildly confusing over which one is right.

 

A proper product lineup needs to cover the bases in an adequate manner that allows a clear, concise look as to which product covers which base, usually through clear product documentation such as product name within a hierarchy.

 

An RTX 2060 with 4GB of GDDR5/GDDR5X and an RTX 2060 Ti with 6GB of GDDR6 is good for the consumer as it pertains to choice, because then you have an additional option depending on what you need based on budget and want, and it's also made out clearly. Having 6 different versions of RTX 2060 that could have differing amounts of VRAM, VRAM type, CUDA core count and possibly even bandwidth is harmful to the consumer, especially if they are all branded as an RTX 2060.

 

Flooding the market with a ton of seemingly identical products does not work well for the long run. It's a logistical headache.

you mean AIB cards?

 

these arent AIB cards (they are, but im not pointing to the 39 different skues, im pointing to the 6 different variants of the 2060). these are specked from Nvidia themselves. AIBs just adjust memmory clockspeed and core clockspeed if need be an slap a cooler on it

 

also it is Ramtype, Ramspeed (different Busses), probably GPU-die differences, (clockspeeds are eventually changed in AIB cards)

 

 

you know that people arent happy with the amount of gtx 1060s there are? this is that, but worse.

The problem with the 1060s is the 3gb and 6gb versions are completely different cards. If the differences between cards are clear in their name, then I see no problem.

im not only talking about those different cards. just saying, there are more..........

 

also im pretty shure most people dont know the differences memmory makes, and what bus-width does.......

 

also the 3GB version appears to be a repeat of the 6GB version

 

 

if this turns out to be true. then its not good for the average consumer in any way.

how about the gddr6 version and gddr5 version?

 

the bus-width changing and so on. its confusing, its missleading, and you end up with people thinking they are one and the same when they arent.

 

also the amount of people thinking the 3GB and 6GB are one and the same, and the amount of people who dont actually know anything about GPUs at all. as enthusiast we know the differences and we know the details of naming, but a huge majority doesnt, and they dont know if they are being cucked or not

 

 

the current line-up is less confusing than this. mostly because only 2 cards are actually consumerfacing and people dont know the layers beneath this.

Got a source on this. I've followed CEMU from pretty much day one, I've even had conversations with the developer (back before he left GBATemp) and I've never heard anyone ever suggest you run the emulator through WINE on Linux instead of Windows. Adding an extra layer of complexity to an emulator is never a good idea plus AMDs Linux drivers are terrible so why anyone would suggest running anything AMD based in Linux over Windows is beyond me.

 

OK so I did some googling before posting this and it turns out your partially correct. Using some custom AMD drivers on Linux its possible to get upto a 40% speed boost on CEMU but only if your GPU is weak and causing a bottleneck, if your GPU isn't bottlenecking then at best you see no difference. That said I can find nowhere the CEMU developer recommending Linux over Windows, the origins of this method come from Reddit.
