Used 3.5GB card vs brand new 8GB card with a full warranty?

I can't exactly compare the two super directly.

From a value standpoint, a used 970 for $135 > a new 580 8GB for $200.

The free game doesn't make the deal any better IMO.

Fair,

Though for someone buying new, this is a fantastic deal.

Still contemplating buying one of these. I mean, for the price, it's hard to beat...but AMD has new stuff coming out in a couple of months...

To flip it again, I want The Division 2. So the card, really, would only cost me $120.

Decisions, decisions...

Except that's used. And doesn't have near the performance of an RX580. And half the VRAM.

But for the people that are interested in the games included, it makes it a much, much better deal.

Still within 10% of a RX 580 8GB, used isn't a big deal IMO.

Fair enough, but that comes down to the individual.

You have to be lucky to get a 970 at that price.

From eBay, you're looking at close to $180-200 all included (maybe more if you're trying to import it from US and get hit with duty fees).

/r/canadianhardwareswap is cheaper, between $150-180 shipping included.

Seeing as the 580 has more RAM and perform better, I'm not sure why you would get that, unless that $30-50 is what breaks your budget ... But then I would suggest a 570 8GB, they are $150-170 brand new.

Oops. You live in Canada, so might've heard of Kijiji. I found two good GTX 970 deals:

Yup, and if you look at my reply, I did say you could find a 970 for $150 (all in), and explained why I would still recommend something else.

BTW, not saying there's no deals with used GPU, I myself buy used GPU (that I don't need) if I feel it's worth it (got myself a 7950 for $50 CAD a few weeks ago).

I honestly think the RX cards with the current rebates are worth more than what is available used currently, unless you can get it with a substantial "discount" from the new RX.

If one can find a 970 for $100-120 (CAD) then yeah, the 970 is 100% worth it, but when it's only a few dollars off a new RX, I'm gonna recommend the new GPU.

I don't believe it is. I have a 980 and IIRC they're similar in terms of performance.

Or you could go on ebay and find a GTX 1060 6GB for $200 or less. 6GB is more than plenty for any game at 1080p.

Or you could just avoid all of this nonsense and buy NEW from eBay at USED prices and call it a day.

  • You have to invest more time into every aspect involved.
  • It's all about honest communication. Without it, you're not gonna find the best deals possible. With it, the best deals possible are nearly all you find.
  • The more details you give, the more details you receive.
  • The easiest sellers to avoid are the sellers you're not communicating with when attempting to do so.
  • Honest, trusting sellers communicate heavily. Dishonest, shady sellers barely open the door to any type of communication.

What you said is honestly filled with a lot of nonsense...

  • Generally, purchasing from eBay doesn't offer a warranty (if a receipt is required).
  • eBay requires just as much investment in time as ordering online from another store.
  • eBay does not have lower prices than this.
  • eBay does not enable you to get the 2 free games you'd otherwise be entitled to.
  • Most of what you said is talking about communication, which honestly makes no sense when compared to the topic at hand.
