1. The cooling is alright but not great, thermal throttling may occur

2. 8950HK is a waste of money. If you really need max CPU performance, don't mind weight and battery life, get a Clevo P775/P870 with 8700K from resellers that offer delided CPU (HIDevolution, ObsidianPC)

Desktop specs:

Spoiler

AMD Ryzen 5 5600 Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE ARGB Gigabyte B550M DS3H mATX

Asrock Challenger Pro OC Radeon RX 6700 XT Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (8Gx2) 3600MHz CL18 Kingston NV2 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD

Montech Century 850W Gold Tecware Nexus Air (Black) ATX Mid Tower

Laptop: Lenovo Ideapad 5 Pro 16ACH6

Phone: Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro 8+128

Is the 8700k is a pc or laptop cpu ?

Is the i7-8850h is the better option than the i9 regarding of thermal issues ?

Desktop CPU, but can be found in several Clevos like P775/P870

TBH anything above i7-8750H will suffer from thermal issue and cannot perform full performance

I've been testing mine for a few days already and all I can say is I don't like this laptop's thermals at all. At stock I hit high 80s and a lot of high 90s to 100! Had to undervolt it to -0.140mV. Generally staying at mid to high 70s but still hit 90-100 when gaming. It's winter and it's mostly below 60F. I can't imagine using this system in summer where it can get to 90F and bove..

I do like the specs though and I just want to use this as a desktop/portable video editing workstation. However with the terrible cooling solution this thing has, there's really no point. Right now, I'm just gathering information on how to apply Liquid Metal to this laptop in the safest manner possible since this laptop will be moving a lot.

I've received some recommendations for polyurethane foam dam + electrical tape + gap fillers(for pushing the heatsink). I haven't seen anyone do it yet so I'm not sold on going that route(yet). If nothing happens, I'll be returning this disappointing piece of equipment.
