So a laptop that:

  • is far thinner
  • is far lighter
  • has far better battery life

really isn't that much more portable than my old 4Kg 15.5" (16:10) monolith. Nice

Edit: That monolith also ended up with a 96Wh 12 cell battery to power its old AF 110W power draw.

Can you name a laptop with this size and resolution, this weight, this battery life, a touch screen and a dGPU at the same price? It's not cheap by any stretch, but it's not as ludicrous as certain other products... I mean, just compare it with the macbook pro at the same price point...

 

This is basically what you'd get if you wanted something like an asus ux331, but with a huge screen and touch support. I can see the point of that. Of course, it probably comes with some things I consider taboo like soldered ram...

I have no problem with those, but you shouldn't buy a laptop if its going to sit on a desk and never move and if you want a workstation laptop you should be getting something with a 16:10 15" display.

The thing that kills me with laptops is battery life/ cost.

 

The max I'd be willing to spend on a computer is probably 500-600 USD including all peripherals and there's just no laptops in that price range with a decent battery.

too bad no pro laptop feature 16:10  aspect ratio screen sadly, low-end thinkpads don't count.

can also cook eggs, having specs doesn't make a machine pro, needs an OS that supports pro programs( engineering programs for me), cooling, a keyboard that doesn't break. yes, i have used the 2018 i9 32gb pro, for testing purpose, yeah it sucks.

may be a suitable replacement to my old 17" MacBook pro, which I still prefer over the newer 15" MacBook pro I also have. The extra screen makes it more usable to me, enough to ignore the core2duo vs i7, and the 5 years of difference between them. (also I prefer its keyboard)

One day I will be able to play Monster Hunter Frontier in French/Italian/English on my PC, it's just a matter of time... 4 5 6 7 8 9 years later: It's finally coming!!!
