Psu mislabel

Mick Naughty

Got a Cx750m and I think the 850 version aswell.

Above the modular connections it says cpu 8 pin or pcie 6+2

So i assume it can do either, as I want to provide both the 8 pin and addition 4 pin for the board as I’ll be maxing our the 4790k on it when gaming. Hopefully back up to 4.8ghz.

Go to my box of parts fight a 8pin flat cable that matches all the Corsair stuff. Check new egg real quick and it appears that neither of those psu’s come with that cable. I assume I got it from my evga psu.

So if it doesn’t come with it, I assume the rail can’t handle it and it’s just genteticly printed on them all?

it says CPU in case you buy an EPS cable SEPARATELY and you want to use it

duh, you don't need the additional 4 pin for overclocking that chip

it only makes sense in skylake-x, or threadripper

Unless your 4790k somehow pulls over 250w you dont need the extra 4pin for the mobo.

But anyways you can order an additional cpu 4+4 cable from corsair if needed, and use that. The pinouts match and the rail can handle it.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

i'd save that up for a better PSU instead :)

Well if it’s enough, I don’t see the point in getting another one then.

what do you consider enough?

when I hear that I assume you are talking about wattage

and wattage isn't the only important thing!

having enough wattage means nothing if you have a poor quality PSU that will cause instability issues or even dead pc parts.

As people said I don’t need the additional 4 pin. Meaning it’s fine to run as is.

I'm racking my brain trying to figure out what you're trying to say here.

The CX-M series does in fact come with PCIe cables and a 4+4-pin that can be used as a 4-pin ATX12V or EPS12V. The Corsair website says it does.  Newegg says it does.  Reviews say it does.  I say it does.

So you're saying it doesn't because you lost the cables?

Where? Even the pics show it not being there.

Ok.  I double checked again.  The 4+4-pin cable is FIXED.  The PSU comes with two additional PCIe cables.  If you wanted an ADDITIONAL 4+4-pin cable, you can plug an OPTIONAL cable into the same port as the PCIe.

Still.. Your thread title is misleading.  You say "PSU mislabeled".   There's nothing mislabeled on that PSU.

That’s why it was a question.  Simple comprehension at that point. Not used to buying incomplete psu’s.

Are you suggesting you bought an incomplete CX750M? How?

As in if I wanted another eps cable, I would need to order it.

"Incomplete PSU" isn't really the right word to describe that, is it? I mean, if you bought a case with slots for half a dozen of fans, and special places for water pumps and radiators, and it only came with 3 normal 120mm fans preinstalled, would you call it an incomplete case? Because it didn't come with all the optional fan and radiator slots populated?

My evga came with all the cables for possible use. Same with both ocz’s.

If that has room for the fans but the holes are drilled out, yes that would be incomplete. Doesn’t matter what wording I used. Doesn’t have the cable either way.
