Playing GTA V with i7 4770 and GTX 960 - only about 45% GPU usage and 50% CPU usage per core.

~Lachlan

Hey there,

So I've noticed that my framerates while playing GTA-V are in the low 40s, while GPU usage sits around 40% and CPU usage 50% per core. I'm really unsure about what's causing the low GPU usage. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Lachlan

Check your temps. What are your GTA settings? As weird as it may sound, you might have to turn the settings up a tiny bit to get your rig to perform better.

It's possible some antialiasing ate up the vram and is screwing the framerate over without being reported as a GPU usage percentage.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Check ^ if something is underperforming. Could be maybe Thermal Throttling.

Here are the results.

My GPU temps don't go much above 60 degrees and CPU in high 60s max. Most settings are round High. I can post a screenshot.

Weirdly, running the GTAV benchmark gives results of around 80fps most of the time (and sometimes more). Results are here https://pastebin.com/h5T9mV9d.

Scrolling down to the bottom should show my graphics settings too.

Just tried upping settings to Very High on all with FXAA and memory usage hit 3900MB. GPU usage around 80-90% and FPS in the 60s... I guess turning up the graphics increased framerate, but now am hitting the VRAM cap? Temps still in 60s for GPU and CPU.

Probably not the culprit but why your RAM running @1333mhz? I think your kit can even run 1800mhz when tweaked.

1) Install Samsung Magician and enable RAPID Mode ( i solved extreme CSGO lags with that ).
2) As xAcid9 said.
3) Check your BIOS and make sure Intel's Turbo Boost is enabled, also check CPU temps, its underperforming for some reason.
4) When playing turn off all unnecessary bg software ( sometimes it shows high bg usage for no reason in this bench).
^ These is just for optimization.

If nothing helps, my suspsicion is that ur PSU is an bottleneck ( has not enough power to feed everything ). If you have a friend w/ decent PSU ask him to help you quickly test it.

It's an Antec Neo Eco 520W (80+ certification). But, I've pretty much got GTA V running near 100% GPU usage right now, so I think all is well. Unless, the PSU is insufficient for my needs.

4770 and 960 is perfectly fine on a 520w
