EVGA G3 NOISEY

Gorge

Hey had a quick question, is it normal for my 850 W PSU  super nova G3 by EVGA To be very loud? I’ve heard that it’s noisy, but when I run a game it gets very loud and when I close the game and the desktop is on Idol, it will almost make like a humming sound like vibrating sound and it literally vibrates  to the point where something is rattling, I have a metal desk but still

The G3 was regarded by quite a few to be slightly noisy under heavy lead, if you enable the eco mode it does make it a fair bit more silent by running fanless for the first bit until it needs to slowly ramp up as load or temps require. Make sure the unit is mounted positively in place and not able to shift or move around.

"very loud" is very subjective, there probably is a point where it is excessive however the G3 is not exactly known to be a soundless model under operation.

also humming is likely to be coil whine which is a thing that does randomly happen with hardware, some models more commonly than others... it's not particularly harmful alone but the issue is there might not be a way around fixing it if not replacing the unit.

There's some stuff on the G3 actually being a step down from the G2 maybe the possibility of whining is part of these issues.

It is not able to shift or move around, it is only tied down by two screws on the top because I was not able to get the bottom ones in, but I can’t move it with my fingers is that good enough?

Could it possibly be the fan rattling? Because it is only noticeable under certain power draw times not always, but once in a while it’s almost like a loud rattling humming sound

Could you record the sound, if it's a rattling, that sounds like it may have been a bad fan bearing. Slight humming or airflow noise is normal if the fan has really ramped up.

So I apologize, I was not able to record it, because when you take a car to the mechanic the problem stops, but if you put your ear up to it and really listen you will be able to tell

The rattle sounds just like this, but significantly louder and like Something is rattling

That doesn't sound out of the ordinary, it's airflow and motor noise. Not what I would consider silent but nothing that would point out to being a problem.

OK what if it was way louder and more annoying, and actually sounded like something was rattling that shouldn’t be? I am new to PCs so I don’t know

We would need to actually hear the problem to determine what it could be since it's all subjective.

Also Once in a while it will do it way louder to the point where it’s annoying. And it’s actually rattling something, that much vibration

Even at low power draw it is still really noisy. This is <100W power draw and still measured at over 40dBa once the fan kicks in.

Yes I understand that, it’s really annoying. But are you sure like a vibration rattle is normal? Doesn’t do it a lot

Vibrations could be causing something else loose in the case to vibrate.

Could be bad fan.

Could be off balanced.

Could be something getting caught in the fan.

Could be that you weren't able to screw it in with all mounting screws and it's vibrating against the case (why not? can you post a picture of how it's mounted).

Could just be that it's a bloody loud fan.

I’ve only had it for a couple week it has a 10 year Warranty This doesn’t seem right. It’s only under load and fans make the sound all the time only at specific voltages will it vibrate. It does not fan grind. I know what grinding sounds like.
