Use Google Apps with Microsoft E-Mail

So, my college has an email address for every student. This email address is managed by Microsoft (I think). The MX points to outlook.com and I get emails from Office365 Quarantine. However, we use G-Mail to access our email and also have access to drive and everything. How is this possible?

This would indicate your college is using Office 365, or at least the Exchange Online functionality. You can access those boxes just fine over IMAP using any other e-mail application, but not the Gmail website. Could be that they're still migrating the e-mail servers to 365 and you're still on Gmail for some other reason.

I dont think that they are migrating. Its been like this ever since Ive been here. They use Microsoft ADFS for WiFi login, gmail login, etc since they have a Windows Server which would make sense with Exchange. So im not completely sure how it works.

I'm not sure what role Gmail plays here then. Is that google account specifically meant for internal e-mail then? If so, that'd be super weird.

I have no idea, thanks why im asking The Email is hosted by Microsoft in the Azure Cloud (i did an ip lookup). The local server is at the college HQ and is for users which I assume talks to the Exchange cloud. Gmail is literally a full fledge gmail account with all the google apps and 30GB of storage.
