Best FPGA brand?

Coaxialgamer

I'm looking into getting an fpga as a hobbyist for the holidays.

I currently have a spartan 3e based board but I've found xilinx ISE to be basically unusable. My current board is thus a paperweight and was kind of underpowered to begin with anyway.

So I've started looking for a new board. Digilent has a few artix 7 based boards that xilinx supports. But there are plenty of other alternatives as well, including altera and lattice.

My question is : which fpga brand/series have you had a good experience with? I'm looking at entry level, sub 150$ boards at the moment.

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case
