RAM OVERHEAT

Gorge

Hey just wondering is it safe for me to buy higher megahertz RAM? Is it going to overheat and if it does, how hot is too hot? Also can ram get hot?

We need some more information.

CPU, motherboard, power supply, current RAM kit. You can probably just overclock your RAM to a higher frequency, and even buying faster RAM wouldn't make a huge performance difference.

RAM heat output is tiny. If you managed to overheat your sticks, at the very least the Motherboard's VRM will be overheating long before that and probably dead by the time there's any harm to the memory sticks. That's how bad the case's airflow need to be for that sticks to get harmed by heat.

You would need to aim for extreme OC to overheat RAM. And even then you would need to worry about mobo chipset being cooled properly first. Those parts actually do overheat on cheaper mobos.

Ram does output heat but if the kit is rated for the speed you are running then it should be totally fine, realistically the air moving through the case normally is enough to cool it. It really doesn't matter much, even heat spreaders aren't really necessary for ram its more for looks than anything else

I don't think just mining would put such strain on mobo nor RAM that either would overheat. Besides, you can't OC on that board which is main reason why mobo would overheat.

No my motherboard was designed for mining, but I game on it and OK can I overclock my graphics card?

So I can’t OC the gpu alone?

Ofc you can. GPUs aren't restricted like CPUs.
