Is 500w enough for 1070ti or RTX 2070

My current spec:

i5 8400

stock cooler

2x8GB RAM 2400MHz

GTX 1060 3GB

1x SSD 

1x 7.2k HDD

3x 120mm case fan

 

My current PSU are XCP-A500

Plan to upgrade from 1060 3G to either 1070ti or 2070, can my PSU handle this?

Since I have tight budget, if upgrading PSU I does not have extra money to upgrade graphic card. If unable to handle, which PSU I should get?

Assuming the RTX 2070 uses about 185W of power consumption (the 1070 Ti's is effectively the same), this is around 15.5A of current from the 12V rail. So yeah, it should handle it just fine even if it's using only one of the two 12V rails exclusively.

Yes 500w is enough but that PSU is a pile of garbage.

Theoretically it should. In practice? I don't know. I'm sure someone here who knows what it's made out of can tell you.

Psus aren't that expensive. Get a new one. Check the psu tier list down here and get a tier c+

500W is enough but that is a cheap PSU, even voltage ripple can kill your components, so your PSU can live but not your other components, it is not worth the risk. 

 

If you are on a budget look at the Corsair CX550M.

meh, not the biggest fan of the b3. but the cx(m) line is pretty good

Same, but a B3 is usually a cheaper option and still a whole lot better than whatever TF this is:

true, but they sent golden samples to reviewers, so that's mostly why I don't like it.

Sux, but you have two choices:

a) get a decent PSU and a GPU you can actually afford

b) don't get a decent PSU, try it with your ancient piece of shit, wonder why the Harddrive dies every couple of weeks, deal with random lockups and reboots - and of course kill your hardware...

 

And given the age of the PSU, I don't get why you won't get a good quality new one.
