Warped motherboard?

So I was in a heated debate with someone who said that 8 years ago they were running so many things at once that it quote "Maxxed out their CPU" and by doing this, overheated it even though they claim that their case had proper airflow and their CPU cooler was perfectly fine, and they claim that it got so hot that it "Warped the motherboard and made the screws and standoffs fly around the case". I badgered them for more information because I wanted to know if this actually happened and all I could get was that, they never told me the CPU their CPU cooler, or case, or even what programs they were running, and claim to have 10 years of experience building computers so its "obviously true". What would you people think?

Defenitly not true, unless his cpu reached a 1000C or something.(very unlikely)

not possible. the only warp mobo scenario i have ever heard was because they didnt use all the mobo screws and from the cpu heatsink and heavy video card

Fiberglass doesn't usually warp from heat only force applied to it

The circuit board can delaminate (split into layers) if it's running at 110c or more for long periods of time (tens to hundreds of hours) - that's why most VRMs have over temperature protection and try to keep the mosfets at 100c or less, even though they're rated for 125c or 150c usually.

But such splitting wouldn't cause mechanical stress big enough to cause standoffs to become loose or have thread break, or to have screws unthread from standoffs.

 

I say it's really big exaggeration on his part. It's way more likely that VRM mosfets would explode or the electrolytic capacitors (because you say it's some time go, so the board probably was before solid/polymer capacitors) would blow or vent out if the circuit board to which they're soldered becomes so hot.

No, motherboards are 4 layers and up, it's really rare to have multi-layer pcbs made with phenolic paper.
