Who is playing Quake Champions ?

Turtle Rig

So our go to game with my cousin has been UT for 20 years.. anyhow we play Unreal Tournament Alpha ,,,,,,, and its nice. I have been through wolfenstein, then doom and quake 1 and 2 and 3 Arena.  We never liked Quake because the graphics were all brown and ugly and not comparible to the thick graphics and amazing maps of UT99 and what not.  UT3 was nice,,.. I new they had a new Quake long time ago but I didnt bother I new it would be a brown engine again as Quake 3 was.  Anyhow luckily somehow through web site I saw it say Quake Champions for Free ,,,, off steam ..... So I sorta gave it a chance.  It blew me away,,,, sick ass game guys..... now we dont UT anymore and Q instead.

The characters, the abilities the shaders and loot and blood gore is sick and soo fun.... graphics pown,,, UT is fantasy this is more reality... the weapons, I mean the game is soo polished alto they keep updating it which I have no problem with..  I actually bought it so I can have a option to setup custom game to play 1v1 with my cousin.  Also I don't think its free anymore.  Im 41 years old and I think this game is not too popular because old Quakers are not 40's in age ,,, and new generation is all over fortnite and war games... sighs

I played Quake Champions for like three months, but I eventually got bored of it since Fortnite is more fun (IMO). The game is just too fast paced to be fun.

Ya, but end of the day Fortnite is a kids game.  Q is violent.   Not good for kids 13 years old and down.  Its a cool game, but a kids game, not saying your a kid but just saying the facts.  THeir large audience base is teenagers or young kids.  Quake has violent blood in it,, not good for kids.

I'm 15, so I'm technically a kid/teen.

I got 60-something hours in QC this year. I think it's a really good base game that got F-ed by terrible netcode and the fact it's just way too hardcore.

I'm an old Quake and UT player (I'm 33), and it still took me 10-15h just to get a hang of QC. It's the modern FPS equivalent of high-speed, complex RTS games like StarCraft 2. You basically have to "tryhard" if you want to enjoy the game. Most players don't want to do that, and have no reason to because QC is on its deathbed anyway. Not only is it extremely hostile to newbies, its shrinking playerbase results in a screwed-up matchmaking, which in turn leads to a lot of one-sided matches, and beginners getting stomped by veterans.

All this results to QC's current dying state (1300 players online on a Sunday evening!). At this point, I don't think anything can be done to stop the game's decline. I think the best we can hope for in the arena shooter genre is that Doom Eternal's multiplayer will be better and more popular than the Doom 2016 one.

Well people are stupid those 1300 people are smart. IMO ,,,,,,,, Those war games are gay as hell......  That stole away UT and Quake people... But honestly at this point and having the experience I have,, Quake Champions is by far the best FPS game PERIOD!!!!!!! FPS meaning, a fragging game.  COD or BF or Fortnite etc etc,,,,,,,,,  UT Alpha is also amazing and puts to shame those war games which are as I said earlier very gay and what not.

While I'd agree that QC team deathmatch is objectively better than, say, Destiny 2 TDM, I still end up enjoying D2 more because I can pick that game up at any time and casually enjoy a few matches and not get matched up against players who far outskill me. If I was younger and had much more energy and time to sink into getting good at QC, then maybe QC would be more enjoyable.

Doom Eternal multiplayer is being developed by a different team from the one that developed the (pretty lame) Doom 2016 multiplayer. Hopefully, they'll be able to deliver a more casual-friendly PvP that's still fun to play even if you're bad at the game, while retaining the arena shooter mechanics we know and love.

i played it for a few weeks, got my ass kicked 95% of the time. While i'm pretty used to it (in quake at least) and did expect as much, i just got fed up by it. The only games i could find in the end were 1v1's which i suck at the most. Wanted TDM but finding a game just took to long and even when i did, 75% of the time we got our asses kicked. I did OK in those games most of the time but it just stopped being any fun.

I played UT99 for 6 years straight right from the day it was released, so i know how to play the fast paced hardcore shooter. But quake is just so much different then UT (at least to me), so i never got into it.

I have no signature

  • 1 month later...

I started out when Unreal came out first, then Quake III Arena came 2nd and UT came out a few weeks later.

Quake was soo damn fun, but as time went out, tons and tons of custom UT maps were made and stuck playing UT more.

LOL, I remember Quake being too dark and brown and too dingy compared to the graphics of UT.

I never got into Steam or any of those web based games, but recently started playing Quake Champions.  Damn, the graphics are soo killer and the flow how characters can hop and fly though the game.  I can't stand the new UT 4 Alpha and un-installed it.  The company gave up, leaving it all botched with problems and its impossible to navigate that hub thing.

This new Quake is fun as hell, but the waiting f00kin sux. Im not sure what they are thinking with this Matching Algorithm and up to 5 minutes of waiting or nothing at all.
