Status update: Android x86 works perfectly its just Ubuntu as far as I am aware, I may try to get another SSD and try another Linux install over Ethernet later but for now Android + Windows is de wei! O3O

Oh, I remember that... Which errors are coming out from the kernel logs? (dmesg command, you can do that from a live)

Nevermind,  just found on the internet the issue. Linux does not like IOMMU from that motherboard, causing all sort of weird issues, and it is a never solved bug. It's a shame...

 

However there is a workaround.. as listed in

From what I understand, you could:

Disable IOMMU completely from the bios, overclocking settings (I've got an msi Mobo and that option is there, don't ask why)

 

Or/Also edit /etc/default/grub

and add to where ... are the other option present in there (normally splash and quiet) 

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="... iommu=soft"

 

then do update-grub command, and reboot. if you want to test it this workaround "works", just press E on a GRUB entry from the USB live bootloader and add after the quiet and splash parameters iommu=soft

IOMMU alone have not fixed it, but I tried to disable SVM to just as a safe measure and I am gonna try to...

 

Or/Also edit /etc/default/grub

and add to where ... are the other option present in there (normally splash and quiet) 

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="... iommu=soft"

 

then do update-grub command, and reboot. if you want to test it this workaround "works", just press E on a GRUB entry from the USB live bootloader and add after the quiet and splash parameters iommu=soft

Are you kidding us? Linux is not only ubuntu! Ubuntu is VERY bad example for linux! Go and try real linux! Arch, if it's too hard to install for you try Manjaro, Fedora, Debian (If you are ok with old software) and then tell us that linux does not work well and gives you some stupid USB errors.

those that do backups
those that have never had a hard drive fail.

yes it is linux based, but your problem doesn't appear to be with linux, but with the ubuntu distros after a certain version number.

 

Anyways the Elementary OS is an linux based OS that is designed to look like MacOS. So you get a Mac feel without needing an intel cpu.

At this point I would just downgrade the kernel from the older Ubuntu version you tried that was working fine, or even upgrade the kernel to the latest version, however this seems like a regression to me but I don't know why the workarounds are not working


Btw, do you posted the "dmesg" in this thread? Not the systemctl journal
A dmesg when plugging an USB that are not working would be fine
