Nvidia driver 417.01 broke edge broswer

Mohammed2935

Today I installed 417.01-desktop-win10-64bit-international-whql on windows 10 1809 and after that I opened edge browser it wasn't working correctly.

when I open a new tab it freeze and don't go to any website, even the pen next to the 3 leg star is grey.

I went back to 416.94-desktop-win10-64bit-international-whql again and edge worked like before no problems at all.

Probably a driver bug. Happens once in a while.

Edge is kinda shit otherwise, though.

Always make sure you run Display Driver Uninstaller before any GPU driver install. I would recommend running DDU and reinstalling the drivers.

I did use DDU to reinstall 417.01 it didn't fix the issue at all and then I installed 416.94 without using DDU (checked Nvidia clean installation), now edge browser is working fine like nothing happened.

I think DDU is useless because when use it, it didn't remove the monitor color profile still set to full. when I installed 416.94 with checked clean installation it removed the monitor profile it went back to limited.

417.01 is broken.

well I didn't install GeForce to update the driver through it, maybe it is different than downloading and installing via package launcher .exe.

when you open edge it will work on 417.01 but when you open new tabs it will only shows white screen and doesn't open any websites.

The first, second and third tab may work but the forth one wont work it will only show white screen. it is not stable.

I even repaired edge browser and then reset it on 417.01, didn't fix the problem.

after that I thought maybe windows went crazy so I reinstalled windows 10 again on windows 10 still same issue with edge browser on 417.01.

after that I used DDU to reinstall 417.01, same issue didn't fix it.

even the latest DDU the one released after 417.01 didn't remove 417.01 completely it kept monitor color profile it should have been removed. it went to safe mode uninstalled NVidia drivers and then restart the pc and went to same monitor color profile.

went back to 416.94 now edge browser is working great no issue at all.

416.94 clean installation via package launcher removed the monitor color profile just like before and then I selected the monitor color back to full and edge works fine on it.

I was correct.

This is GeForce Hot Fix driver version 417.21 that addresses the following:
  • Memory Data Rate reporting incorrect value in NVIDIA Control Panel
  • Microsoft Edge does not respond after playing back video
  • Can't apply color format after updating to driver 417.01

Correct about what?  It mentions video play back and you don't even state that.  That fix does not address your issue unless you where negligent in stating what was really happening.

I don't have to tell you what websites I visit on edge but I always play YouTube videos. everyone plays videos in there browsers, YouTube or anime websites.

I mean what websites I will go to? haha my favorite ones of courses. My everyday websites broke edge on that driver.

I also said that the first, second and third tab might work but the forth will make it freeze, why? because I will open YouTube or anime website somewhere on any of the tabs.

I said it broke edge browser and they said Microsoft Edge does not respond and NVidia said why? due to videos play back and it wont delete color profile after removing that driver, why? because you cant even apply them (Can't apply color format).

I said the symptoms of (Microsoft Edge does not respond after playing back video) (how should I know what is causing it/triggers it) and color issue.

YES I AM CORRET it broke edge browser.

So the display driver is causing a memory leak issue in the browser or is it a conflict in the embedded edge flash player?

Never the less the best browser is any third party internet browser that is not widely known.

In my opinion (In order of complexity) Lunascape, Opera, Firefox and or for rudimentary internet restoring of files: Netscape Navigator -yes it still is around but not updated anymore -the reason I say use it to restore files.

I don't know why but I always use Microsoft browsers, edge or older.

I might switch to google chrome.

Nvidia released a hotfix driver for 417.01 to fix 3 issues, including Edge not working. You can download it here:

Shiiieeeet. I was scratching my head wondering why Edge and some other apps stopped working after i updated to 1809.
