Giving matx wifi

I'm looking to build a small-ish form factor gaming PC for cyber Monday I'm having a hard time finding a moather that has a pcie x1 slot in addition to the pcie slots for my GPU matx is perfect but they don't have built in wifi and if I use the pcie x1 for the wifi that removes the pcie slots I need for another card it would work if there was one with WiFi and a extra pcie x1

You mean can you use PCIe x1 for a WiFi card? Yes.    Don't sacrifice the graphics card for WiFi though

Or, get a board with built in wifi, like a MSI Z370M AC.

I think he's just looking for mATX boards that have multiple PCI slots for both the graphics card and WiFi card.

I don't understand this. I thought this means he wants a board that has PCIe x1 so close to the PCIe x16, that he loses GPU if there's a Wifi card.

I thought most mATX boards get multiple PCIe slots (apart from crazy boards like the Maximus 11 Gene), that's why I'm confused.

I'm looking for a motherboard that has extra PCIe slots for either a wireless HTC unit fir the Vive or a USB 3 hub high bandwidth for my Oculus rift I need this PC portable cuz I carry it around with me for work

Yeah, i think there's just some confusion on the boards.

pretty much all cards use full length PCIe x16

So what do you need in total?
For the USB 3.0 you can find a case with USB3 front I/O and use a Mobo with a few USB 3.0 in the rear, that shouldnt be an issue. So you need one slot for a wifi adapter, one for the vive?

then you need AM4 board, not the ones @Philostic listed out.

 

btw mITX boards mostly come with WiFi. I myself recommend the Asrock X470 Gaming-ITX/ac board.

 

Also you could use the non-X 2700 instead, can be overclocked to match the 2700x if not surpass it.

Was talking about the wifi card, not GPU.

The sensors for the rift work better with this card to to lanes and bandwidtd limitations plus I would need a minimum of 7 USB 3 all able to run at full usb3 speed

@Jurrunio is right on the money. Unfortunately, ITX boards are usually more expensive. I'm used to building budget so I'm coming into this at a bit of a different angle.

All ryzen chips can be overclocked, so they both can be overclocked. X just overclocks more.

I think they still need an extra PCI slot after WiFi for a VR headset adapter of some sort? And the USB hub. All the ITX/ac boards are only going to have 1 PCIe x16 slot for their GPU.

I found a good deal on the 2700x with a price difference of $14 that mixed with the fact that the 2700x has a better cooler and can reach a slightly higher over clock then the 2700 I think it's worth it

So from what I'm piecing together, this is a VR-intended rig for work, which needs to be small format for portability, and you need multiple PCI slots on the board for various cards?

You may have to jump over to an intel CPU to get what you want. An intel i5-8600k will give you very similar performance to the Ryzen 2700x, for a similar price. It sounds like you're in development work for VR, the 8600k will be enough to run VR games and do all the compiling you need. The main benefit to the Ryzen CPUs is multi-core performance, which doesn't really show in games anyways. The 8600k has a faster single-core speed at the base clock, so it'll be better for games. If you can afford it, get an 8700k. (Note, for the 8600k or 8700k, you will need to purchase your own cooler, as they do not come with stock coolers.)

The reason I say you need to switch to intel is because, quite simply, there aren't any mATX wifi boards available for ryzen (AM4), and that's the only way for you to get all the slots you need, excluding PCIe riser cards, which wouldn't fit in a mATX form factor anyways, and would split your bandwidth.

So back up top, you'll get the best performance from a Z370 board, but if you're trying to keep a budget, a B360 board will do well too. Don't get any H310 boards, as (from my understanding and limited research) they have reduced bandwidth to their PCIe lanes.

Sparing no expense, go for the MSI Z370 Gaming PRO AC, a mATX board with built-in wifi, and four PCIe lanes: two full-length and two small PCIe slots. Comes USB 3.1 slots in the back, as well as one USB 3.1 Type C. If you need to save a bit, maybe the EVGA Z370 Micro ATX.

That really sucks I had my heart set on a 2700x for various reasons if I went up to a atx mb how small/portable could I make the PC do you know of a case
