  1. I've been helping a buddy fix his PC issues for about 2 weeks now, and despite all of my tech knowledge and additional troubleshooting, we cannot seem to crack the case. BACKGROUND The PC is relatively new, bought new from Origin PC. It worked great for some time, and only recently started freezing. We did a fresh OS install after various very consistent issues (BSOD constantly, fixes not working, etc), hoping that would resolve the issues - no luck. We were getting DPC WATCHDOG VIOLATION errors on our BSOD, so we very much thought it to be an external drive, but those have been removed and freezing persists (though not sure if it's the watchdog violation due to no BSOD). We've replaced a dated mouse and headset, removed those drives from the equation, still no luck. Bold = changed after this post was made Fresh OS install (Windows 10, from the Origin flash drive) BIOS updated to latest version, from a nearly 2 year old version. All drivers completely up to date SSDs have been checked using Samsung Magician software Origin software provided for troubleshooting, testing CPU, GPU, RAM, etc - all passed with no errors SFC Disabling unused audio output devices Checked Windows Event Viewer various times (nothing critical or seemingly related until AFTER the freeze) Checked Windows task scheduler for leads pertaining to the time range of freezes (see below) Disabled Wifi adaptor (wired ethernet, so unused - modem / router is Comcast latest default, same as mine) And More™! Despite the above, we're still encountering a HARD freeze (no BSOD even after minutes) every 2-3 days on average. Oddly enough, the freezes are happening between 4-9AM, roughly, but nothing concrete. I thought it might be X hours after no use, but that isn't lining up either. User does not have PC sleep EVER, displays don't even turn off, so no sleep / hibernation related issues, at least on an OS level (could a device be nodding out after 8~ hours of no use?). SPECS Case: Corsair 5000X Processors: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16-Core 3.4GHz (4.9GHz Max Boost) Motherboard: Gigabyte X570 AORUS Elite WiFi Memory: 64GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE RGB PRO 3200MHz (2x32GB) System Cooling: CORSAIR H100i PRO XT RGB System Fans: ORIGIN PC Maximum Fan Kit Graphics Cards: NVIDIA 8GB GeForce RTX 3070 Operating System: MS Windows 10 Home Operating System Drive: 1TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 RAID : No RAID Hard Drive: 500GB Samsung 860 EVO Series Power Supply: CORSAIR RM850 SERIES PLUS GOLD PSU Power Supply WHAT NOW? So the PC hard froze at 5AM, as well as 8AM today, after 2.5 days of no freezing (this seems to the cycle after all the above updates), heavy use (gaming, work, on 24/7). I strongly feel this 5-8AM range is some sort of lead, but I don't want to get hung up on it. The WATCHDOG VIOLATION error isn't showing up anymore since there's no BSOD, so I'm not sure if that has been corrected, or persisting in a different state. Any leads great appreciated, and with any luck, we'll fix this up and I'll learn something new! UPDATES The PC crashed at 5AM, and 8AM today - the second crash while in use, in the middle of typing. This rules out periods of inactivity being an issue. See final post, ISSUE ERESOLVED! DxDiag-Tass-0523.txt
  2. I recently bought a MicroCenter bundle that included the AMD Ryzen 9 7900x, ASUS B650E-F ROG Strix Gaming WiFi and a G.Skill Flare X5 Series 32GB DDR5-6000 Kit. I noticed that with all stock/default motherboard settings and sitting on desktop with as few applications open as possible, the CPU is pulling about 40W at idle. I noticed my idle temps also don't fall below 40c. This computer is intended to be left on to power the computer for Parsec, Hyper-V, Plex and an NVR, with personal gaming occuring for about an hour a day. Not only is this computers being used as a shared resource but the boot issues with Zen 4 have been frustrating to work through. Since this computer will be sitting idle for the large majority of the time, I'm looking for ways to cut down on idle wattage as much as I can. The only steps I have tried to net any sort of improvement have been turning off Core Performance Boost and setting the curve optimzer to a -20 offset, which netted me about a 5 watt improvement at idle. Disabling an entire CCD had no impact on idle power and actually led to issues launching World of Warcraft. Disabling cores from BIOS did not have an impact. Not sure what else I can try to reduce idle wattage. Other parts: 3 m.2 SSDs, 3 SATA HDDs, 1 internal blu ray drive, RTX 3060 Ti, Seasonic TX-750 PSU, Noctua NH-U12S redux
  3. Hello, I am at my wits end about what's wrong with my current build. The Symptoms: When playing Escape From Tarkov my graphycs drivers would die and system would become wery slugish and unresponsive. My screens would go black for few seconds and most application that were using the GPU would not render anything. This would only happen in Tarkov so I assumed it was a Tarkov issue. Then it started happening when I was running Unity Edditor and training AI using the ML agent toolkit. So I assumed it was bad RAM. Following my line of thought I tested my RAM using Memtest86, Prime95 and TM5. All were good. I reinstalled Windows. I didn't have time to play Tarkov but now 3 days in a row Windows would crush. It wouldn't respond to continues key presses. I couldn't open any application from the tesk bar but already open application would work. The seach function wouldn't work. The start menu would open but Power option wouldnt open. The only way to get out of this state is to hard shut down using the power button. What's wirder is that CRTL+SHIFT+ESC wouldn't work. I've checked Event Viewer and the only thing I can see is: Event Id: 27 Intel(R) I211 Gigabit Network Connection Network link is disconnected. Event ID: 10016 The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {2593F8B9-4EAF-457C-B68A-50F6B8EA6B54} and APPID {15C20B67-12E7-4BB6-92BB-7AFF07997402} to the user DESKTOP-0EQOCI1\Gimli SID (S-1-5-21-423614-1977640308-2967982529-1001) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool. I see about 15 events with ID 10016 Hard to see but firefox crushed with the top section being white: I needed to restart the PC to get it going again: PC Specs: BIOS version: Version 3602 Any help would be greatly appriciated. Thank you,
  4. After some time, ClockTuner is now available for the Ryzen 5000. As stated by Yuir (1usmus) Bubily, creator of the utility: "The development of CTR 2.0 took more time than usual, due to the complexity of the Zen3 architecture". In addition to support for the latest AMD CPUs, a new function called CTR HYBRID OC has been introduced which, as reported by Videocardz.com: "It's a special profile that will help optimize performance in both multi and single-threaded applications". All the details on the Videocardz.com article (available at this link https://videocardz.com/newz/clocktuner-for-ryzen-2-0-brings-cpu-fine-tuning-to-ryzen-5000-series ) or Igor's Lab about it.
  5. Hello. I have installed the new components to a final build. Unfortunately, I could not see the problem coming, because I was using the whole time Silent mode. At the moment I am experiencing some unusual temperature of the CPU when I try to stress the CPU with Prime95 or OCCT applications. I ran the stress test for three minutes and I could see that CPU was at 90 degrees of Celsius or 194 Fahrenheit what I do believe is crazy. The power settings I used were balanced power mode with minimum processor state at 0% and maximum at 100%. My question is simple. What am I supposed to do? Some people tried to undervoltage the CPU and it worked, but should I actually do that with brand new CPU? Should not it work properly? I have seen some people getting the same or 1-2 degrees of Celsius less with Water Coolers and that is just crazy. According to AMD these CPUs are able to withstand 90-95 degrees, but like....it also diminishes the life expectancy of the CPU itself. I was also researching about where the whole heat thing is located and it is not in the middle, but somewhere around the corners of the CPU. My PC build: Ryzen 7 5800x GT 1030 32GB Ram DDR4 3600MHz HyperX Seasonic GX 750 Gold Fractal Design 7 Compact Dark Rock Pro 4 MSI B550 GAMING EDGE WIFI My fans: 2x140mm Arctic P14 in front of the case, 1x140MM P14 on the upper side, 1x120MM P12 at the back side. The thermal paste I am using is Condoctonaut and I have also a following picture of how the thermal paste looks like when it was installed. The cooler was installed properly, if I used more power I would break the MB for sure. Some people say that the problem are: 1. 1xCCX + I/O 2. BIOS is pushing the voltage too high 3. Stock voltage 4. Bad piece
  6. As I do not have enough $$ yet to upgrade my R5 2600 to a R5 5600X (or maybe even a R7 5800x), I decided in the meantime to "photoshop" a traditional Chinese character version of the zen 3 architecture logo. I feel that this is only appropriate as AMD has for a very long time worked closely with TSMC, a Taiwanese mega-corporation, in manufacturing their CPU dies. In addition, I'm a huge fan of computer microarchs, and as an ABC I'm fascinated by traditional Chinese calligraphy. But as my handwritten Chinese can be best described as "chicken-feet scribble" a.k.a. 鸡爪子 unfortunately, I decided to go the digital route and create this work of art using Gimp instead. Hope you all enjoy my creation; there's zero fees associated with downloading a copy ;).
  7. I’ve been using a 3700x for about six months now - upgraded from an FX8320. I recently was able to get my hands on a 5800x and popped it in my B550 board. After seeing benchmarks online that made this CPU just as appealing as a GPU upgrade, I found that my performance in games were quite literally little to none. Examples: Horizon Zero Dawn went from 73 FPS average to 75; Generation Zero went from 92 FPS average to 96. I thought that was strange because if you’re like me, a Zen 2 user who saw the huge gains from benchmarks and videos online, you’d have probably expected much better, right? Well, here’s the thing, and a lot of you have probably already said ‘there isn’t enough info or context,’ get ready. I’m gaming at 1440p on a 2070 Super. That’s where the issue lies. For those gaming at 1080p, you will likely see a much bigger difference than I did - obviously because the CPU is more stressed at lower resolutions. I didn’t even connect the dots when buying the CPU. So, here’s my warning/advice for those on Zen 2 or similarly-performing architectures such as 9th or 10th Gen Intel: wait. Wait for Zen 4 if you’re gaming at 1440p. Your CPU is already more than enough. Focus on a GPU upgrade if you must upgrade something. I will be returning my 5800x now. Obviously, this article does not speak of productivity performance as that’s a whole other issue you need to workout yourself. But for the gamers out there, hear my words. Thank you for your time
  8. hi there, first time poster, first time builder here. here’s my list of parts: and ryzen 7 5800x asus tuf plus wifi b550 mobo corsair cx750m power supply g.skill ripsaws 2x16 GB RAM msi geforce gtx 980ti (yes i know it’s old, it was a free gift from co-worker) cooler master hyper 212 black cpu cooler lian li lancool II mesh case lg ulta gear monitor everything went together ok, issue is it won’t post. i tried to update the bios as this mobo has a bios flashback button. downloaded latest onto usb stick, uncompressed, made sure the rest of root dir was empty, stuck it in the bios usb slot, held the flashback button for 3 seconds until it started flashing and then went solid, left it that way for hours. next day tried to boot again, nothing., monitor connected via HDMI says no signal. as far i as i know, as someone without an older cpu and no windows boxes (linux nerd here) this is the only way to update the bios for the zen 3 chip. any suggestions (besides buying windows) welcome. planning on running fedora linux as i work for red hat and eat my own dog food. thanks for reading!
  9. So, about 2 years ago I bought a Gigabyte AB350M-DS3H and aquired a Ryzen 2200g PRO. I knew from the start that I wouldn't have support for Ryzen 5000 series and that was fine (due to the MB pricing at the time). However, after watching LTT latest video I couldn't help but wonder: what is the possibility of 350s MBs supporting the Zen 3 CPUs, even if through the use of an unofficial BIOS mod? Has it been done successfully with any 350 already? And what about this specific Gigabyte MB (GA-AB350M-DS3H), are there any mods for that? And what about VRM cooling; would that really be a problem and how easily can you solve it? I don't really plan on getting a Zen 3 CPU any time soon, I don't have that kind of money right now, but it would be nice knowing that people are trying and maybe, when I do, there will be a stable BIOS that allows me to save a few bucks
  10. Hey all, I have a Zen+ cpu currently installed in my B450 Aorus Pro (non-wifi) and I want to re-use the mobo for zen3 when I plan on upgrading later this year. (I know it's probably better to upgrade the mobo too but ill only be using a 5600x) I can update my bios right now in preparation to support zen3 but I cannot find any info on whether or not I can continue to use my zen+ chip with the latest bios (F61 is the latest, supporting the g-series. F60 is the zen3 update) https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B450-AORUS-PRO-rev-10/support#support-dl-bios (Link to the official site) I know that some manufacturers drop support for older chips to make space for the new ones, but again I'm not sure right now if that includes zen+. Although, it likely is the case as the auto bios updater in the app center (gigabyte bloatware) says it cannot find a new bios (current bios is F40), that could be just the poor software but also has me thinking it's stopping me from downloading an incompatible bios. My plan is to just purchase the new chip, update the bios with my zen+ then do the install and hopefully that works. There is no physical Q-flash on board so that would leave me with doing it manually. cheers
  11. Hi guys, So I'm going to make a new build soon, I was about to buy the 5950X. cuz the 5900 was 100 euro over MSRP, but I see the MSRP dropped to 599 euro here. So I bet soon it will be back to MSRP here. My question though now is. If i do go with the 5950X, how long will the 5950X be viable compared to the 5900X? For comparison, I'm still running an i7 3770K. And I just this year decided to upgrade. So I intend to keep the CPU I buy now for a long time. Will the extra 250+- euro be worth it in the long term when I go with the 5950x? Or will the 5950X and the 5900X be deprecated around the same time? For some context, I intend to game on this ofc, but I'm also a software engineer who runs a lot of heavy IDE's and sometimes servers to test stuff on, I also develop games and edit some vids. I don't know what I will do in the future since I'm working on my dissertation for graduation. But yeah, maybe it would be smart to go with the more powerful option, but I saw that the difference between the 5950X and 5900X performance is not worth the extra money in comparison to the performance you gain from the 5950X. Hope I was clear enough in explaining my situation and my concern.

  13. Budget (including currency): $2850 Country: United States of America Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Microsoft teams, A lot of webpages, Fall guys, A lot of COD, fortnite, CSGO, Among us Other details I am upgrading from a MacBook with 128 gigs of storage with 40 used with no games on on it because it won't fit any mainstream games. I know my cpu and gpu are hard to get your hands on and I am willing to wait as long as needed as I don't need it now. I want to be able to get 1440p to 4k res with 144hz+refresh rate HERE IS MY PART LIST
  14. I wonder why is there such a silence and no YT channel or PC website is asking AMD or trying to find some answers about it yet? AMD also doesnt seem to bother even hinting on Zen 3 Threadripper CPUs I personally believe that with unified cache, AMD SAM and better IPC those CPUs are going to be a game changer litterally especially in X gamers 1CPU setups and workstations whos owners like to game on the side as well. Yet nobody cares searching upon in on google on yield a couple of old user posts here and there asking this without any answer/leak something on the horizon in general... Why is that? do you believe that AMD doesnt care to put out new threadrippers and possibly discontinouing them? I mean judging from the AM4 stock of Zen 3 maybe they cant produce a meaning quantity of dies to make a threadripper lineup?
  15. Location: Melbourne, Australia Cost: AUD $2500 Purpose: Gaming and programming using heavy Docker Virtual Machines I'm a Masters student in Australia and I haven't built a PC in a long time, instead relying on MacBooks for the better part of the decade. But my MBP was starting to slouch in my work (heavy Docker / VMs) and it sucks for gaming (duh, haha) so with the launch of RTX 3000 series, I figured let's build one. With the help of Reddit, this forum and LTT's channel, I put the following together over last week. All of the parts are brand new and I didn't have anything to re-use. The full Specs of this PC are: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor @ Stock MSI MAG B550M MORTAR WIFI Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard Kingston HyperX Fury 32GB (2 x 16GB) @ 3600Mhz 18-21-21 Kingston A2000 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME SSD Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3070 8 GB GAMING OC Silverstone Precision PS15 RGB MicroATX Mid Tower Case Cooler Master MWE Gold 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply It's currently in my living room connected to my TV, I don't have a monitor yet. I use it as a headless gaming device at times (streaming through Parsec or Moonlight) with my MacBook Pro as the interface. The GPU was an absolute pain to fit into the SilverStone PS15, it was barely a couple of mm under the maximum length it can fit in but I managed to make it work. Some takeaways: I didn't know how RGB works, so the RGB fans in front of my case don't actually have a controller yet haha. I'll get one soon. CPU idles at 45C and maxes out at 75C with Prime95, which I think is pretty fair with the stock Wraith cooler. The RAM is advertised at CL17 but as soon as I set it to CL17 it shits the bed hard. This is way too much power when compared to my mid-2017 15" MacBook Pro, it's working at an unbelievable pace through my Docker VMs, scripts and build tasks even through WSL2. I am simply floored. I probably overpaid for the GPU (it was about AUD $1069 instead of the $809 for a FE), but I am a very impatient person once my mind is made up. Regardless, it's absolutely fantastic, doesn't go above 50s even during heavy usage. I don't have a monitor or desk, currently it's attached to my living room TV. I use the TV and Parsec or GameStream (wuth my MBP as the interface) for using the desktop. I'll eventually get a monitor and all but not for sometime. I can probably improve some of the cable management below the GPU, but it's fairly tight as it is. The case was really difficult to work with given how tight that GPU fit. I am really happy with how it has turned out.
  16. ROG Strix X570-I Gaming. I boaught a ITX motherboard. The first of mine. I am not sure if it has the bios for the R5 5600x, so i wan't to be on the safe side and EZ flash the bios. the only problem is that the motherboard don't have any usb with bios marked on it!?!?. Do anyone now, or have actually someone flashed this motherboard it self??? I Would really appreciate if someone helped me with this, sins a don't wan't to destroy my first itx pc....
  17. With the launch of a much better price to performance based Ryzen 5000 and Nvidia RTX 3000 Series, I think the laptops in the price range ~1000-1250 USD are about to see a major bump in their performances as compared to the current generation of laptops available in the market. However I am also a bit skeptical that the laptop manufacturers may want to keep the extra bit of pie for themselves and we may not see many competitive prices laptop in the 1000-1300 USD price range. Additionally I am very optimistic about laptop manufacturers recognizing the demand and performance for Ryzen and give them the exposure they need in the mobile segment. What say?
  18. AMD 3800XT ---> 380€ AMD 5600X ---> 290€ If i get the 5600x my MOBO options are those: MSI B550-A PRO ---> 140€ + CPU price of 380€ = 430€ total MSI MPG B550 GAMING PLUS ---> 145€ + CPU price of 380€ = 435€ total If i get the 3800XT my MOBO options are those: GIGABYTE B450 AORUS ELITE ---> 85€ + CPU price of 380€ = 465€ total ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING ---> 115€ + CPU price of 380€ = 495€ total The PC will be used for Amateur Music / Video editing mainly and some Gaming from the kids. I couldnt really decide which is the better option and decided to ask you guys! From my own research i've found out that the 5600x is newer generation with Zen 3 and 3800XT is Zen 2, but with 2 extra cores instead. Thank you in advance for your time!
  19. since b450 will not run old gen ryzen after zen3 BIOS update because of rom size i want to know if x470 will support all the generations since it have bigger rom
  20. So I went to this website called Overclockers UK and saw that ryzen 5 5600x was in stock! Just wanted to let people know that it is only available for uk and ireland only ;(. I have put a screenshot just so you know im not trolling.
  21. Hello All, something is bugging me a while. we know that AMD uses chiplet designs but between chiplets a CPU always has a bit less performance (over the InfiniBand). so it would be better having only 1 corechiplet (marginally but theorizing here. when looking at the lineup of all 4 new CPU's it can be checked as if every CPU has 2 corechiplets. but design white that would be very inefficient production. so i was checking the CPU's and they can be paired by 2. this would be if everything has 2 chiplets chiplets cores per chiplet cores total threads L3 cache (per chiplet) tot cache stock boost 5950x 2 8 16 32 32 64 3,4 4,9 5900x 2 6 12 24 32 64 3,7 4,8 5800x 2 4 8 16 16 32 3,8 4,7 5600x 2 3 6 12 16 32 3,7 4,6 but if production pairing will be a thing: chiplets cores per chiplet cores total threads L3 cache (per chiplet) tot cache stock boost 5950x 2 8 16 32 32 64 3,4 4,9 5900x 2 6 12 24 32 64 3,7 4,8 5800x 1 8 8 16 32 32 3,8 4,7 5600x 1 6 6 12 32 32 3,7 4,6 here the 5950x is paired with the 5800x and the 5900x is paired with the 5600x. that means instead of 4 parallel chiplet's they can produce only 2. would that mean that the 5800x and 5600x be a bit more 'efficient' with their performance. And also, better thermally since there is less 'stuff' under the heat spreader?
  22. Ok so since Zen 3 is releasing in about a week, I will building my first PC! Wooooooo! I have the parts list, and everything ready, but I did have one question. Is the Bios on the B550 mobo going to be ready for Zen 3 out of the box? I didn't know because it might need a bios update, and I don't have another cpu to do one.
  23. They cost / will cost about the same. (at least where I live) But on paper comparing ghz and cores and other known specs the ryzen 7 3800x seems better in every way. Is there any significant architectural difference that will make the ryzen 5 5600 worth it? Am I missing something? ps: I know waiting for independent reviews first would probably be a good idea, I still wanted to ask since I haven't heard anyone talking about this (yet).
  24. Title is very self explanatory. I recently got a B550 E-Gaming from ASUS in prep for the new Ryzen CPU's, I intend to get a 5900x (or 5950x if I manage to get another 250 bucks randomly). However, since I've got the MB even before the Zen3 announcement (in anticipation of rising prices) it doesn't have Zen3 support via BIOS yet. There is a Flash Button tho - I have no experience with that so here's a couple Questions: It seems I need a Flash Drive with the BIOS on it, and the MB needs to be powered obviously. Is there any other Requirements? (For example a CPU sitting in the Socket at all or can that just be empty? Do i need RAM in it? Or can I just put in a 24-pin, the Flash Drive and press Flash?) How likely is it that I fuck anything up and it ends rather badly? Are there any write-ups for the procedure? Additional RGB-Question: The build is gonna have both MB and GPU from Asus (both ROG), Fans are from Corsair (LL120 RGB's, I just think they're nicer looking than QL120's and QL performs worse (lower Static Pressure, lower CFM, higher Sound Level) with a higher price... Source is Corsair's own Tech Specs). Am I right that iCUE can now control ASUS ROG devices? Would I want to use Corsair RAM aswell for the RGB control or is that gonna be compatible through iCUE on that setup? (planning to use Trident Z RGB since it's available in 4000 Mhz). I'd ideally want to avoid having tons of RGB software as much as possible). Also I'm in love with the Kraken Z73, and will most likely get that to go with the 5900x. Can I setup CAM (their RGB+Monitoring Software) and remove the program right away or will keeping CAM have and advantages? If there are big advantages I guess I can live with CAM + iCUE. Thanks for your answers! It's especially hard to gather information on RGB Software compatibility tbh.
