Hi, I'm trying to upgrade a system to nvme m.2 on a MSI gaming 5 z97 motherboard. I've updated the bios to the latest version, tried all combinations of settings on the BIOS, left the SATA-5 and 6 ports unpopulated (as they are disabled when using the M.2 port on this board) but I can't get it to detect the brand new 1tb nvme m2 drive I installed. Trying to install Windows 10 on it the drive still isn't recognize here either, are there proven methods to resolve this issue?

Hello folks! First post here, hoping I can pick your brains for what might be wrong with my custom built PC. System was built by myself in 2014, it has: - Intel Core i7 4790k - 32gb DDR3 1866 HyperX Fury Ram (4x8gb) - Asus Z97 Sabertooth Mark S mono - Corsair RM1000i PSU The system worked just fine until I installed a second hand GTX 660. After installing it and connecting it to the psu, it would not post. Decided to take the GPU out and now it won't post at all, and it had a faint burning smell. Not good, I know. I tried resetting the bios, removing the cmos battery and restarting it the next day and I've tried another psu. I've stripped it down to a single 4GB DDR3 stick, the cpu and a NH-D15 cooler. The ram is tested good and I have only the 24 pin and 8 pin cpu connected. I have a Linux live usb plugged in for OS (Kali Linux, only thing I had laying around). Mobo light lights up orange (normal), and I jumped the power switch with a screwdriver. The motherboard mini fan spins and PSU fan spins for a second (as it normally does), but the display doesn't detect an input; no Asus logo or anything. At this point, it's either the Mobo or the cpu that is shot. But I would welcome your input. I'm not sure how it would have died from a gpu install, even if it is a dead gpu it shouldn't have damaged anything else shouldn't it? What are y'all thoughts? Should I get a cheap z97 board and test if the cpu is still good and rebuild the system?

Hey, So I am building a budget PC based on the motherboard in the title. I have figured out everything but the SSD. I know it is SATAe, or PCIe 2.0x2. This should be capable of 1,250MB/s, which is ok for cheaper SSDs. My questions are: A: Will I get this speed provided I have a capable NVMe? B: Is there anything in the BIOS of this board that will allow me to maybe use more PCIe lanes, (like PCIe 2. X4) or make it run faster? C: What drives will not be bottlenecked by this interface? I was thinking like a WD Black 2017 or Toshiba XG5 (512GB). D: Aside from those insane AsRock boards, (Extreme6 and Extreme9), is there a Z97 board that will allow an M.2 SSD run faster? I do not want a SATA or PCIe adapter card, as I am going for a specific look with this build, and I need as many free PCIe and SATA connections as possible for future products. I know that this is most definitely not the place to put this but i honestly could not think of anywhere else to go. I came home from college where long story short due to rules there i wasnt able to bring my pc at first. I came back from months of not playing any games only to discover that my computer wouldnt post at all. With the help of my friend we narrowed it down to the motherboard, this is why i came here. I have looked for mini itx z97 motherboards everywhere and all i find are used motherboards for 150$. Im not asking for anything except to find someone with a motherboard they would be willing to sell. I just want to play games again. Sorry for the long post and probably frowned upom subject.

Hello veryone, so, I have an MSI Z97-G43 laying around here. It seems to boot normally (at least to the EFI shell, I have no storage connected ATM). But whe trying to enter the BIOS (delete-key) or boot selection menu (F11) I only get anm A9 error in the lower right corner. Resetting the CMOS didn't help and there seems to be no documentation on the error codes (other than that A9 is the AMI standard error code for "Start of Setup", which is kinda useless). I also let it sit for a few minutes in case that helps, but no luck. The board is currrently as minimalistic as possible. Only USB keyboard, no PCI(e) devices, no storage, etc. Does anybody have an idea what I could do to get the BIOS back? I would try to reflash it, but without accessing the current bios that might also not be possible. -
Ok, so I'm trying to get 3 way Crossfire going. Before any of you naysayers start going on about poor scaling and gaming performance, I don't care, I have a 1080Ti for gaming. I just need this to work for 5 minutes. This is purely for a 3D Mark achievement requiring a run with 3 or more GPUs in SLI/Crossfire Problem I'm running into, is that Radeon software only seems to recognize 2 of the GPUs. 3D mark sees all 3, but is only running in 2 way Crossfire, I can only guess is due to drivers and or Radeon Is it a problem with current Radeon Software? Drivers? Is there a build that supports 3 way? I know they've dropped support a while ago, but there's gotta be a way to make this work I have: 3x Rx 580 8gb Sapphire Nitro+ Latest Radeon software and drivers MSI Z97 Gaming Plus 5 - says it has 3 way crossfire support - Latest Bios - PCIe lanes set to 8x 4x 4x Gen 3 Celeron G1840 1200w psu 8gb Corsair 1600mhz (xmp on)

Yo everybody. I built my pc in 2015 and the setup is the following: CPU: i5 4690k w/ CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO MB: Asus Sabertooth z97 mk2 RAM: 2x 8gb 1600mhz DDR3 GPU: Asus Strix GTX980 4GB DDR5 I think this is the most important, my MB / RAM (ddr3) is outdated i guess. I pretty much only use PC for gaming, the game is play the most is CS:GO/ GTA V ,although i stopped playing new games because i fear the pc is not going to run smooth. So, can you guys advice me in which hardware I should switch? If so which models you recommend. Thank you for your time , Thanks in advance. Wilson.

Hi everyone, Today I received 2 new 8gb sticks of Crucial Ballistic Sport DDR3 - 1600 ram off of eBay to add to my already existing sticks of the same type. I put the new sticks in and assumed everything would be fine... it wasn't. My computer went into a reset loop and after manually resetting gave me an "overclocking failed" error from the motherboard (I am not attempting nor have I ever overclocked this PC), and then a "boot drive inaccessible" blue screen whenever I bypass that and boot from the drive I always boot from. I've reset my BIOS back to default multiple times, and switched out both pairs of ram and now my original sticks aren't even allowing my computer to boot. Needless to say, I'm very frustrated as none of the other solutions I've found online have helped and I'm about to part this puppy out and build a new one as this PC is going on about 6 years old (that's a conversation for another time). Hey guys! After having my i5 4690K for a long time I though it was time to try overclocking. My motherboard is a MSI Z97-g45 gaming. I saw a simple guide online to follow. However when entering bios to OC settings I can't change my CPU Ratio. It just seems to be locked at Auto. I dont know which setting to change to allow overclocking? Does anybody know? Thanks

Heyho lovely Forum, before I'm writing anything more I have to say sorry if didn't understood all I'm not a native english speeker I apologise. okay let's start with my big issue I bought a Pentium G3258 for 10$ used and It got never OC'd. I managed to OC it to 4,5ghz with a Z97N Gaming 5 from Gigabyte at 1.444V, 16gb DDR3 1600mhz G.Skill Trident X. Cooler Master 212X, Be Quiete 500W PSU 80+ Bronce can't tell the exzact model number but its an older model, GTX970 Gaming G edition and my lovely iiyama Prolite XB3270QS 32Inch WQHD Monitor. I swaped out my main CPU (Xeon E3 1231 v3) to have a fun time while oc and while that my bad time began. I began to have such a bad time while booting. I'm getting when I'm shutting down the pc Black screens and I have to Reset the Cmos battery to manage it to boot. The Xeon which officialy supports DDR3 1600 can't boot with 1600 I have to Downgrade it to 1333mhz to have it booted and even on 1333 I have to Clear the Cmos battery to get a boot. I wrote with some people who helped me already but don't know the issue or they are out off idea. The last advise I've got was to make a Thread in this forum. Things I already done which didn't helped : - Memtest86 - try to boot with @stock speed - Checking dead pins - Bios updating - Checking of Damaged condensators If you have any more Advice or help I appreciate it Greeting

Fellow Techies, I hope all are doing well. I am trying to figure out why my pc is not waking up via lan. I am running a MSI Z97s Krait SLI. I am aware that it does not have a WOL nic but I purchased an intel nic that does. However, I can't seem to get it to work. I allowed PCI/PCI-E to power on the pc, and allowed magic packets. I am using team viewer. I am trying to wake my home pc from my macbook air. There are times I need something from my pc as well as other things I need to accomplish. I can't leave my pc running while I am away as that would cause our power bill to go up... a lot. I use no-ip for a public address. If you have any suggestions as to what I should use instead (team viewer included) please let me know. If you have gotten this to work on your Krait edition or other motherboard that doesn't natively use WOL your help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

So..... I had a slight accident with my Z97 Board with a Swifttech AIO cooler and shorted out my board. So I was wondering if it would be better to get a Intel 6700k, Intel 7700k, or try to get a Ryzen 1700x or 1800x. Or is there a better option out there? I'm looking to spend about $750 max.

Hello, Since where I live Intel 7th gen CPUs are not available and 6th gen CPUs are overpriced af, I'm gonna buy a Core i5 4690k and pair it with a GTX 1060 6GB. I will be playing MMORPG mainly. Final Fantasy XIV, Elder Scrolls Online etc. But I don't know if I'll be fine with a MSI Z97 Gaming 3 to overclock my 4690k to 4.5GHz stable for 24/7 use. If not, If Gaming 3 will only be able to get my CPU to 4.2GHz or something, I could go ahead and buy the Gaming 5! But I'd have to get 8GB of RAM instead of 16GB! So yeap! I don't want to give up on 8GB RAM unless it's really needed...

Hello, I decided to add an m.2 drive to my system. I would like to know if my Asus Z97 Pro will be able to fully utilize a Samsung 960 evo drive. The Motherboard specs say it supports M.2 socket 3 but that it shares bandwidth with the SATA express. But this article: SSD Preview shows that they used a 960 evo with the same board but no synthetic benchmarks were included. Any ideas or suggestions are much appreciated!

Hello all, I was trying to overclock my 4790K with my custom loop (2x 360 rad with NF-F12's (GPU isn't integrated yet.)). I noticed that the Core 0 during Aida 64 was FAR higher than the rest of the cores. HWMonitor readout is available in image As you can see, the package and Core 0 have +- 15 C difference on full load on Aida64. Any suggestions what could be wrong? Overclock settings is 4,7 Ghz @1.3 V Thanks in advance!

This board is the worst purchase i have ever made in my life. I have had countless problems with it. Good luck getting anything from asus support, as they are essentially useless. That also goes for the drivers. Every version of AI Suite sucks BEYOND BELIEF. These are some of the worst drivers that i have ever had the horrible pain of dealing with in my life. The board also sometimes just decides that it doesnt want to let your pc boot. It will sit on the ROG logo for an infinite amount of time. I have tried everything in my power to fix this. I have unplugged the drive ad booted into the bios, someone said that this fixes it. They forgot to mention that after about 6 boots the fix doesnt work anymore. The board is an absolute pain in the ass to deal with if it is ever disconnected from the wall for more than 24 hours. Again, this board is not worth buying. I can easily see why it was discontinued as people were tied of paying $200 for a piece of crap. I will never buy another Asus board again and you shouldn't either. Pros: looks cool Cons: pretty much everything besides the BIOS UI -

Unfortunately, frequent visits to eBay, Amazon, Newegg, etc leave me unsatisfied with no stock or defective boards. Really could use some advice on how to find these boards?

I need help overclocking on this system, I haven't overclocked before, but i can't manage to change anything from within the BIOS. CPU Ratio to change my clock speed is stuck in AUTO. I can't figure out how to change my CPU Frequency or my CPU Voltage. I went over the manual but I didn't get anything new as the options to change the frequency is there, its just stuck on AUTO. i5 4690k Z97 Gaming 5 Dominator 16gb @2133MHz -
ok so i upgraded my I5 4690K to an I7 4790K finaly(havent dont proper overclocking because cooling but it boots and passes CB 4.8GHz at 1.25V) but i noticed that if i start it without first compleatly draining the power it tends to hang when loading BIOS and chanegeing something in the BIOS and hitting F10 will also sometimes cause this when it starts up again. it just gets stuck loading the BIOS and no inputs seem to work, sometimes you can get into the BIOS but then you have the same problem when you boot again and the only way to get the computer to reliably boot seems to be flipping the PSU switch and holding the power button for a few seconds before turning it on again. this is probably going to be a massive problem for me seeing as i tend to keep the computer in deep sleep or whatever when im not around and it loads the BIOS again when i open it again, if thats going to start hanging then its going to be pretty anoying to use the computer... so if anyone knows what is causing it that would be great to hear so i can fix it when i get home

So I've had this reoccurring problem (as in multiple months, if not a year by now) where my PC will randomly hiccup/freeze up, and/or black screen (no video signal detected by monitor) for a couple seconds randomly. It normally only seems to happen when my PC is under moderate to heavy load (ie. heavy benchmarks or gaming), all my drivers are installed/ updated, I've reformed drives and reinstalled windows, overclocked and underclocked everything, and I've tried running things with the bare minimum in the background. When my system goes back to normal shortly after there are almost no real signs of a problem, for the most part, it just resumes right where I left off like nothing happened: No high temps, No dropped voltage, No artifacts. The most that ie been able to pick up on is that whenever it does happen the only sign of it having ever happened is a few % dip in Cpu usage right at the moment of black screening, and in overwatch, I'll get a rendering "Rendering Device has been lost. Application is closing." although I'm fairly certain any other game will just resume after the hiccup like it never happened. Besides it only seeming to happen under load there seems to be no other trigger I can personally find through monitoring the system; It's not even fairly consistent, some days it can never occur, others I can't even play Overwatch for longer than a couple min periods. Does anyone have any input on how I can isolate the problem, and perhaps even fix it? I don't even know what kind of files or screenshots might be of use, but if you think it might be useful just name it, and I'll try and upload it. Specs: windows 10 64bit Intel i7-4770 (cooled by a 212 evo) Msi z97 SLI krait edition (bios A.7) 16gb ddr3 ram (generic Samsung workstation memory) Evga reference Nvidia gtx 650ti boost Evga SuperNova 650w PSU Vision Tek racer SSD (450gb) and random wd 450gb

PC power cycles the moment it's turned on, and continues to do so until PSU is powered down. I just started a new build and am recycling old parts. The PSU and RAM are confirmed working. Hey. I I have Asrock x97x Killer motherboard and 2 MSI 1070 Gaming X cards, and I'm going to buy a SLI bridge real soon *cus it sucks to have a 1070 just laying around*. But I quickly realized that the sloppy brown SLI flexes dosent cut it anymore, and I figure I need a high-bandwith SLI bridge. What I found out is that MSI has both a Medium "60mm" and a Large "90mm" sli bridge. So I'm wondering if anyone knows which one I need for this motherboard? Thanks a lot in advance!

I'm trying to buy the Asus' Z97-A, but, for some reason it is listed on Amazon twice, and Newegg once, with each listing at a different price point and slightly varied specifications. wtf? Everything seems to mostly match up, all are by Asus, but for some reason the product descriptions/specifications seem to differ slightly, I've screenshotted and edited them all together here. So I have an MSI Z97 Gaming 7 motherboard that came with bios version 1.6 and have been happily running it since 2014; I recently bought a 240GB M.2 NVMe SSD by MyDigitalSSD to install as my main operating system drive and while windows is aware that the drive exists; when I go into the motherboards bios it can tell me everything attached to USB ports and all connected SATA drives, it is unable to see the M.2 SSD. I was wondering if anyone else was running these two components together and would be able to let me know if updating the BIOS will enable it showing the drive; I have yet to attempt to install any operating system on it, but I am assuming that if the BIOS is unable to tell me it exists, it will be unable to let me boot from it - the research I did before buying the M.2 drive did highlight that the motherboard supports booting from PCIe M.2 drives.
