So I have a pc with an i5 4690K with 16 GB Kingston HyperX fury 2x8 1866 MHz, and a Gigabyte G1 Sniper M5 motherboard and a GTX 970, and everytime I shut it down and let it sit for a bit for example one night, the following day it won't start back up again reading the error code 32 every single time, I haven't yet tried other ram, but the ram should be good with this motherboard which is why I don't know what the problem could be. Any idea what might help me troubleshoot this problem?

Hi all, I've spent the last few days trying to get 5.1 surround properly working windows 10 to my old Toshiba Home Theater system. I've used moded Realtek drivers, the windows drivers and even my SB G6, I've changed Chrome shortcut properties, I've switched back and forth between DTS and Dolby, and I've spent hours browsing through forums hoping to find a solution that works...No luck tbh. I have got 5.1 working but the problem with the way it was done is, it would never fill the center and rear channels, even with dolby surround fill settings, it would only play 2.1 (or 2.0 with the internal HT crossover to the sub I'm guessing). Then I figured my Sound Blaster would be able to send 5.1, but apparently windows won't send 5.1 over USB. I've tried using the basic Windows drivers as suggested to one person in a forum using the 3.5mm surround jacks on their mobo, but that wouldn't work either. So what is it that I'm missing why is it I can't have surround audio over optical WITH surround fill unless I switch back and forth between stereo and surround. Is it a problem with my receiver, my mobo, drivers, hell the color of my shirt? Would I need separate plugins or programs to resolve the issue? If these are even relevant: Z87 maximus VI ROG hero, 2.82 Realtek driver( moded and unmoded variants), Windows version 2004, Toshiba SD-V55HT. Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

Ladies and gentlemen today is a sad day (Build spec at the bottom) A month or so ago I powered on my machine, the screen, no signal (connected by Displayport as it has been for several years). however by ear the machine seems to go through the same cycle. I tried loads of different stuff to diagnose the cause, tried the GPU in a different PCIE 16x sot, tried using HDMI instead of Display port, tried swapping out cables that are 'known good' and different displays that are 'known good'. still no signal. I checked all connectors in the system were secure. With the GPU in the first 16x slot the LEDs are flashing red, green, green on the GPU (I think, I'm color blind), I tried it in the second PCIE 16x slot and all of it's LEDs are blue on the GPU. either way the VGA led on the mobo is on. I expected the GPU was faulty, so i tried removing the GPU and connecting via the MOBO HDMI (the only video output on the rear IO, still no signal. I started an RMA with EVGA but last night I thought it may well not be the cause or the only faulty part. I vaguely remembered changing settings in the BIOS to specify that I'd set it only to output video to the GPU and not onboard graphics. I've been able to connect to the machine using team viewer and it was fine other than using the microsoft basic display driver. then in an attempt to clear the BIOS setting above I used the clear cmos button on the mobo and now it's stuck in a boot loop where by timing it appears to be going through POST then restarts repeatedly but I have no means of seeing if it's even displaying anything while it POSTs. I've tried using BIOS flashback via USB with the latest version of the BIOS with the correct naming format for this board (Z87DD.CAP filename) but it fails to update every time I try, the flash button flashes then stays lit to show it's failed. I've got the HDDs running on RAID5 running on intel's RST (I think that's the tech). I've been meaning to shift this out to an external NAS for a while now but not had the cash to do it. Hi guys, I think my MSI Mainboard killed my I7 CPU. I recently upgraded my rig from an i5 4570 to an I7 4790k and from an R9 290 to an ZOTAC AMP! 980 TI. My MB was MSI Z87 G43. Performance was great, even Cyberpunk @1440 p not a problem at High. However, I made the bad decision to update my bios to the latest version, since my PC was from 2013 and MB BIOS not updated since then. When I started the flash process trough M Flash (USB Stick, I did NOT flash through the windows SW) with the latest version I just got a black screen, but everything was fine after that. I should have called it a day an let it in peace. But unfortunately, I tried to flash a lower version than the latest, think it was 1.5 (still more recent than my old BIOS). This time, it looked better at the first glance, I could see the flash process from USB reach like 30 or 40 %, but the suddenly my PC restarted and the screen went black. Ofc I waited for some Time (15 to 30 minutes) till I tried anything but the MSI MB was dead. I was able to get a MB with the same chipset from eBay, luckily, an “ASRock Z87 extreme4”. Mounted all my components on the new MB and started the system, only to see completely black screens again one I tried to boot. Error display on the ASRock showed 00 which means CPU or MB error I think. Then I switched CPU, from the I7 to my old I5 and luckily, the ASRock MB & i5 works perfectly fine and booted my system up immediately. I did the test once again with the i7, again black screens, with the I5 again the system works. Also crosschecked, the BIOS on the ASRock from eBay is up2date and supports the i7. So my conclusion is that the bad/interrupted BIOS Update somehow killed my poor I7 ☹ ? Is this possible?

Hi all! I'm interested to know if I could use an old motherboard I have lying around ( MSI z87 gd65 Gaming with i7 4770k and DDR3 ram) with a new Intel A380 GPU. The idea is to use it as a NAS with the capability of an OBS streaming server to Twitch / YouTube (I have a separate gaming PC) using NDI. I hear the Intel A380 has a great AV1 encoder. The old Mobo has a PCIE 3.0 x16 slot and the GPU uses a PCIE 4.0 x8 whatchcallit. Will there be a conversion and any loss in bandwidth? Thanks in advance.

Hello, I did something dumb, I plugged in a 4 pin molex connector into a hdd while the system was running. The hdd was also connected to a cheap PATA to USB converter I got off amazon. Immediately after doing so the system shut off. I initially thought I killed the PSU but after testing a brand new PSU today the same issue persists - this is fairly hard to explain so I'll do my best. If I switch off the PSU by the hard switch on the back, and leave it for 10 to 15 seconds, then switch it on again. The motherboard power button will light up for about 2 seconds, then fade to off. If I attempt to power on the system after the light has faded, absolutely nothing happens. If I power it on while it still has light, the system tries to boot, 00 flashes up on the QCode display but the system then dies completely. It seems the power delivery circuitry may have been fried but if anyone has any other suggestions before I order a cheap Z97 replacement board, I would be very grateful. Thanks Marlon

Hi, I want to buy a Z87 motherboard and a i5-4670K to upgrade my FX-6100 wihitout spending much money. I found a motherboard on ebay for 20 bucks. It seems very decent but it as sold as defective, as the socket has some bend pins. I have pictures of the socket 1150 area. Can you tell me if this can me fixed by me or not? That would be very helpful. The pictures are linked down below. Thanks in advantage Pics:

so i am debating on upgrading my main computers cpu, since i do have a z170 motherboard i would just need to pick up a 7700k for it to do the switch, but i have a 4790k at the moment so i am still trying to justify the price. https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/shamus20/saved/X9VdnQ server https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/shamus20/saved/#view=2JHXsY main computer

Anyone have an idea what could cause power cycling on a Asrock Fatality Z87 board with a 4770K, it would power up and them immediately turn off. I've tried going through and trying to post with the bare minimum a PSU, CPU and one stick of RAM, switched dual BIOS's, clear CMO's changed the PSU and such but still nothing. I'm thinking it may be a dead board but throw out some ideas if someone has any. - W-L Asrock Fatality Z87 i7 4770K EVGA 600B 16GB Kingston Hyper X

I have an i7-4790k, 32gb of Corsair Vengeance ddr3 RAM, 1 ssd, 2 HDDs (all 3 SATA) a bluray drive, a GTX 1080, and both motherboards.I am aware that the VI is of the z87 chipset.I need 7-8 usb ports (I have a 4 port adapter if necesary) and I prefer more 3.0 or newer ports over the others. The issue is that the Z97-a has 2 nonworking 3.1 ports, and they can't be fixed, and busted 3.0 (front panel case usb port) pins. So I only have 4 working ports (7 with the adapter)I won't be upgrading my cpu in any way that won't require me to get a completely new motherboard due to a new chipset, so I'm not concerned with upgradeability.I game in 4k, and want to overclock, as well as create content for youtube.Which board meets my needs more?

Hello everybody ! Recently i've decided to play a little bit with oc of memory because all of that hype that's going on about quite big performance boost with higher speed memories. I have 2x8gb of corsair vengance pro @2400 mhz 11-13-13-31-363-2N Without any bigger problem i've got it up to @2600 12-14-14-36-441-2N But i've notice too big decrease in read performance, although write went up a lot. Asrock has memmory performance mode in bios and what it does is thignen tRDWR timings so acctually with those i overcome the @2600mhz oc easily @2400 mhz My question is should i bump up the voltage to 1.7V on memmory and try @2800/2933 or this is not worth ? I run i7 4790K@4,6GHz (waiting for proper cooling, which will arrive together with 1080Ti therefore i try to squeeze every performance i can get out of the system) mem bench timings @2400 performance mode thanks for advices/ Best regards and good easter !

I have recently installed a GPU and having problems getting into BIOS. Each time I power up it's displaying a black screen on POST (no Motherboard Maker Logo Splash) as well as no win-flag splash screen. It's directly booting to user account page, and my GPU is showing in windows device list. However it's lighting up the num lock key during POST/BIOS splash but not displaying anything. If I press delete during boot it appearantly entering BIOS without display I tried a few combination with the following results. 1) iGPU + dGPU (on PCIe Slot) -> Monitor (over iGPU VGA Port) = **NO Display during POST (Splash), Display On BIOS, Display during windows-flag splash 2) iGPU + dGPU (on PCIe Slot) -> Monitor (over iGPU HDMI port via HDMI/VGA converter) = **NO Display during POST (Splash), Display On BIOS, Display during windows-flag splash 3) dGPU (on PCIe Slot) -> Monitor (over iGPU VGA Port) = **NO Display during POST (Splash), Display On BIOS, Display during windows-flag splash 4) dGPU (on PCIe Slot) -> Monitor (over iGPU HDMI port via HDMI/VGA converter) = **NO Display during POST (Splash), Display On BIOS, Display during windows-flag splash 5) dGPU (on PCIe Slot) -> Monitor (over dGPU VGA Port) = **NO Display during POST (Splash), Display On BIOS, Display during windows-flag splash 6) dGPU (on PCIe Slot) -> Monitor (over dGPU HDMI port via HDMI/VGA converter) = **NO Display during POST (Splash), Display On BIOS, Display during windows-flag splash However 1) iGPU -> Monitor (over iGPU VGA Port) = Display during POST (Splash), Display On BIOS, Display during windows-flag splash 2) iGPU -> Monitor (over iGPU HDMI port via HDMI/VGA converter) = Display during POST (Splash), Display On BIOS, Display during windows-flag splash In each case I'm having no issue booting to OS. And OS is listing all the GPU. The issue exclusively confind to POST, BIOS and Win-Flag Splash. My Configuration is as follows 1) Asus Z87-A 2) i7 4770K (3.5GHz) 3) Corsair Vengeance 2x*GB DDR3 @1600MHz (10-10-10-27 CAS Latency) 4) MSI GTX 1060 6GB 5) Corsair GS800 80+ Bronze Certified PSU 5) Dell E20 15HV Monitor NOTE: I've tried Clear CMOS, and my HDMI to VGA converter is of-course an active converter (The one uses D/A converter and requeres power to run the chip inside)

Any input would be appreciated! The problem PC mobo: GA-Z87n-wifi (BIOS rev. F6) cpu: i3-4130t (35W) ram: crucial ballistix tactical ddr3 at 2000mhz (1.35v) gpu: XFX RX460 2gb ssd: 2.5in Crucial m500 240gb OS: Windows 10 Pro The Problem Recently moved my home office PC from a small restrictive case, Lian-Li PC-Q12, to a new, larger case with more expandability, airflow and options, Lian-Li PC-Q01. Now that everything is in the new case I'm having really high chipset temps, 52C at idle, (TMPIN0 according to HWMonitor) I don't recall it being an issue until I assembled everything in the new case. I have other gigabyte Z87 and Z97 boards with TMPIN0 temps around 38C at all times. This case is larger with more airflow so that's not the issue. When I touch the chipset heatsink its almost too hot to touch so I'm almost positive TMPIN0 is the chipset temp. It's causing really weird case fan behavior too which is the main problem. The TMPIN0 reading starts out at room temp when I first boot, 22C. Leave it idle (even in power saver mode) and it goes up by 1C every 5 minutes. The moment it hits 50C my 140mm Noctua NF-A14pwm case fan instantly goes from 700rpm to 1600rpm and won't go back down until I reboot. CPU core temps are around 30-35C. GPU is around 38-40C. Chipset temp (according to TMPIN0 in HWMonitor) stays above 50C even when the case fan is going nuts. I'm not really that bothered by the chipset temps (it'll tolerate 50C no problem) so much as the fan going insane and being loud as hell. Everything seemed fine until I put it in the new case with the RX460. Process of elimination... Things I've tried, I've tried clearing CMOS, loading optimized defaults. Still behaved the same (hot chipset and loud fan). The RX460 is also new, could a GPU be causing a chipset to overheat? Maybe some sort of pcie bus clock problem? Before the transition to the new case, I delidded my Haswell i3 (mostly to see how difficult it is before I consider doing it to my devils canyon i7, much cheaper than ruining a $300 cpu, used IC Diamond between CPU and IHS). i3 was fine after delid, also did it to my G3258 and its fine too. I've also tried 3 different PSU's and none make a difference. I've used three different CPU coolers, just in case the TMPIN0 is actually CPU temp related. There is no difference in TMPIN0 between stock intel, NH-l9i or NH-l9x65. Some things I think I'll try next, check the thermal pad between the chipset and it's little heatsink, even though I really doubt thats the issue as the heatsink is hot, ie it's clearly conducting heat swap CPU's to the G3258 or an i7 I have lying around (if the issue only occurs with the delidded i3 I'll check the paste under the IHS) swap the GPU for the old HD7750 somehow position a tiny 40mm fan over the chipset to see what happens?

Hello, my z87 msi board is having some power delivery issues with my h100iv2, i wondered instead of buying a new mobo i should upgrade to a new platform or buy a z97 board for my 4690k, I like the idea of more cores but i dont game all the time please helo me choose what to pick. Should i upgrade to new platforms? Which one? What CPU? Any help is appreciated.

Hi, I'm trying to flash a LSI 9211-8i card into IT Mode. After I updated the BIOS to the newest version I had to disable SecureBoot, but even when it was set to other OS, disabled and unloaded I still got an error message saying I need to turn it off. I've tried resetting CMOS and such already. It would be great if someone knows a solution to this problem, thanks.

So I recently gave my old Z87 a breath of fresh air and brought it up to 2017 standards. The 4670k is OC to 4.2ghz at 1.2v and the 980s running at 1501mhz on their cores and 4000mhz on the memory. The pcpartpicker link is on my profile if you want specs on the full build.

When i finished my new build, and i powered it on, nothing happened. The power led was flashing, but it would not power on. I tested everything except the mobo and psu, so i swapped the current 750w psu for a 650w modular psu, and it works, but prior to this i tested the psu with a voltmeter and it showed to be 100% in working order. The led flashing meant that there was an overcurrent and that it was probably shorting somewhere and wouldnt power on. But i removed everything, case, fans, even video card. whats wrong?

So I Overclocked my I7 4790K and i was wondering if I got a good chip. http://valid.x86.fr/z1sng5

Hey all! First of all, this is my first time posting here and also not native speaker, so please forgive me my mistakes and if I explained something incorrectly, let me know and I will edit it. So, this is my current setup: a MSI Z87M Gaming motherboard. It's an Intel platform and I have two SSDs in the system, plus a RAID-1 4TB mirrored storage for work and large files. A couple of days ago, I decided it was time to move to a newer platform, since this old one has served me very well in the past years, but it's getting rather slow for the work I intend to do. That's why I bought a new Ryzen 5 3600X + MSI MPG X570 GAMING EDGE WIFI motherboard. It hasn't arrived yet, but the idea started bugging me. I have an Intel RAID-1 array in my system, no left-over storage on my hands to copy the files to and I want to move to an AMD platform. Is there any chance that I would be able to just move the RAID array to the new system and it could work? I am not sure if the RAID-1 array has any other special things on the disk or if it's just a normal filesystem which could be accessed on any platform, for example if you grabbed one of the disks from the array and connected them into an external enclosure, if you would be able to access the files on there or still would need the Intel raid chipset to deal with the way the disk is initialized and used? I do not want to buy another 4TB spare to move the files, nor a smaller disk and make a compressed backup of the current RAID array on it, since that is a waste of money or a lot of time. Do any of you guys have experienced and worked through this kind of issue? Has anybody tried this? I am hoping that somebody has already been successfull, but if not, I will try it on my own and hopefully retain all my data and reach my goal. Thank you all in advance!

Motherboard not turning on, usb has power.
KNARF_XD posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Hello, A friend gave me his pc because it doesn't work anymore, and i love tinkering with them. My friend described how it died, it was just turned on fine, he went to get a drink, he came back, the pc was off, and wouldn't turn back on. So I start checking things, everything except the motherboard seems to be working fine. The motherboard in question is the gigabyte ga-z87-hd3. The thing with the motherboard is that it just doesn't turn on, not with the power button, not when shorting the two pins for the power button with a screwdriver. (yes i tried a different psu, still nothing) The usb ports seem to get some power or something, since the led on a flashdrive flashes when it's in, same goes for the indicator led on the card reader in the pc. I also tried to force the psu on with the paperclip method (or whatever it's called, you know what i mean) while the 24pin was still in the mobo, this made the cpu fan turn on, but nothing apart from that (note that everything is disconnected at this point, only cpu fan, 8pin cpu, 24pin, monitor, keyboard+mouse and a flashdrive are connected/plugged into the mobo). I also took out the cmos battery, but to no avail. It seems that the mobo is just very dead, but idk if i can try anything else. Any and every suggestion is welcome.- 4 replies
