Hi, so i'm looking to build a budget PC, for my 13 year old step son. It will be his first pc. Not really looking to spend over 400 GBP. thinking a am4 platform is looking good. The use of it will be for unity, basics and building his knowledge base up. He will have a low gb ssd to boot. and ill sort it so all saves go to HDD. barracuda 2tb at around 55 quid is good for me. looking for am4 platform as i say. possible a micro atx or mini atx build. video card will be needed so again a low end radeon possibly around the 120 pounds mark. hopefully with built in wifi mobo. cooler will be a hyper 212 x, storage sorted ram.. wont need much over 16gb id think. as for cpu and thread count im not sure how much it needs hence asking for help. cases... well quite like the look of a couple of the new fractals. psu will most likely be a seasonic 450w for about 50 quid. But ultimately. the pc will be used for: low level developer in unity. school work. lol. internet surfing. maybe small amount of gaming. but nothing crazy. so so yep. Any help appreciated in helping bring the costs down as much as possible. haha. Cheers all. Mike

First time builder have been watching linus for about 2 years and am 15 years old. I have been saving this year and have managed to obtain $1500 dollars, looking for any build recs. currently thinking of ryzen 5 2600x with 2060. It $1500 for whole setup ( I already have desk, keyboard, mouse) I need dual monitors. Any help is appreciated

Hey everyone, I havent been on the forum in 7 years lmao. So, Considering a have a ton of free time at home these days [re:covid] I have been highly considering getting a custom pc once again for the first time in quite a few years. My life style up to this point really hasn't been conducive to being able to use one for my interests & hobies. Anyways, I have an HP 840 g1 Laptop I got from a buddy on the cheap that was working for a school board e-distrobution centre at the time. To the point, Due to my lifestyle I prefer minimalist, Cost effective, Portable utilitarian solutions. For this reason the Velka 3, Metalfish s3 etc. Cases have a ton of appeal to me; Being so lightweight and portable and (without pointless extra features). I also want something with the "umph" of a desktop that could handle creative softwares like Prmier Pro and Photoshop as well as light to midrange gaming at 1440p on a 27" display (I really like the dpi at this range) and I would happily give up 100+ fps for 60+ fps in exchange for pixel count anyways. I also run a few backround apps pretty regularly all of that being said. What I have slapped together is a quick build of what components I have found cost effective without any major bottlenecks in regards for my desires for the build stated above^: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/CHfWMc Now here is my problem, As you will see I am very clearly missing a case and a modded ATX compatible Flex chassis PSU with a low noise fan. Why you ask? Because accessibility to these foregin manufactured and limited run products is garbage here in Calgary, AB, Canada. But not only that; With the Canadian dollar being weak vs the US dollar in recent end of all days times these products and their shipping costs are also grossly inflated . Not to mention none of them have a solid and stylish handle (making them a truly portable solution) or even a decent paint job for that matter. So I thought to myself I used to play around with Sketchup quite a few years ago when Custom Acrylic panels & RGB ribbon LED's & Mineral oil PC's were cool LMAO. And I remember coming up with a few designs that were not only practical but downright impressive for a 15 year old! (I even used refrence form factor bluprints to design server mobo mounting plates for these designs.) Anyways Sketchup is now a web-based free to use application (Ew) and I'm at a loss, I would really like to get back into CAD for once... But bigger than that; I would like to design & manufacture a better product and use local resources and businesses to make it a reality and maybe even start my own small buisness. And thats where i'm REALLY at a loss! I have no idea what i'm doing and ANY resources I could GET FROM YOU GUYS would be absolutely huge! I really need to know what free(ish) cad software is out there that I could pickup easily aswell as; What tips do you have for a small fry like myself that just wants to bring his product to life and what steps should I take to furfill this? (Outside of marketing TY that sh*t is easy I don't understand how it's a career) Branding & exposure is easy in todays digital world but what is difficult is navigating partnerships and the resources necessary to do something like this, because I believe I have a product in mind that I believe has a real demographic; demand and is superior and could be manufactured and distributed more cheaply than the current competition. So I know that this topic is not tech related but the General Discussion thread is place that people can post anything right? So I am not a parent myself but today at the Biology class we learnt something that might help a lot of you! So I am a high school student and today at the biology class we were talking about brain's nerve cells. So at a point our teacher told us that at the age of 1-6 is when the human body start creating a lot of brain nerve cells and that we should know that when we will become parents. That's because (she continued ) the more stuff young kids get to wrap their head around at those young ages the more nerve cells they produce which can help a lot on rising the person's IQ and having stronger nerve cells links. Things like getting your kids to the zoo seeing how the animals act on different situations, showing them something that will make them think more in order to understand, going on trips and to different places etc. helps a lot on creating more nerve cells and increasing the person's IQ. So yeah I am sorry if that was kinda un-related but I hope it helped out some of you. Hope you are having a wonderful day folks

Though it has the backing of legendary rocker Neil Young, the new Pono music player for audiophiles doesn't actually sound much better, or better at all, than high-quality MP3s played from an Apple iPhone. I'm not entirely surprised, to be honest. Even with the BEST set of headphones and DACs and amps, you hit a limit to which human hearing can figure ANYTHING out, so when I heard of the Pono players claims I couldn't help but claim "LOL BULLSHIT". HD audio? I understand that there actually is high definition audio that professional audio engineers use when doing their thing, but not because the human ear is that good, but rather to retain as much detail as possible for post processing work. Same with digital editing companies who work in colour spaces so accurate and advanced, we can't see those colours but they are there for the nitty detail work. I'm not surprised that the iPhone did well either. Apple sorta did become huge with MP3 players that were pretty damn good and well known for the quality they put out. Apple still knows at least one or two things about good audio implementations on their devices. Hello, Not long ago, I ordered my brand new PC that I build myself! My parents decided that they could use my current PC for themselves and my younger brother. (7 y/o) Im going to clean the whole PC, reinstall Windows and download programs such as Skype, etc. But it has come to my mind that there might be problems with my brother messing about in the PC and clicking everywhere which could end up in probably breaking something... So Im wondering if there is a way to "control" my brothers PC from my new one? So I don't have to get out of the chair every time something needs to be changed. Also while we're at it, recommend some games for a 7 y/o! (LEGO Star Wars was the first one I thought of..) Thanks! - Oskar
