I will be leaving home soon and though I have a decent PC at home(2700 & RTX 3060), as I will be out of my country and most likely living in dorms or shared spaces, I am planning to get a laptop. I will be running multiple VMs on Hyper-V for Kubernetes lab. So, my main priorities are powerful CPU, 32 GB RAM, good display (VERY IMPORTANT) and portability. Sadly my budget is around 1200$. I can get a used XPS 9500 for around 1000$. Should I go for that or should I look for something else? I never enjoyed using Macbooks. Should I just buy the XPS 9500 (4K display, 32 GB Ram) and change the battery in the future if needed? Please help me out if you are aware of anygood laptop that meets my requirements. Thanks

Has anyone had issues with their Dell laptop's screen freezing, seemingly at random? I've had similar issues for a long time now, with the screen freezing, and I found solutions to that (resetting the display driver & disabling panel self refresh in the Intel Graphics settings), but this is a different problem. I will just be using the computer for various things (coding, browsing the web, watching youtube, etc.), and the screen will either freeze, or go black. The only way I've found to reset it is to hard power down the laptop, which isn't ideal. I've tried reinstalling various drivers (some Intel drivers, Intel Graphics, NVIDIA graphics drivers, etc.) and updating the BIOS, and nothing has seemed to help. I also tried dual booting Ubuntu, to see if it was a Windows issue, and it happens with Linux too. I would appreciate some help if anyone has any ideas.

Does anyone have an idea when the 2021 XPS 15 will be released? I need a new laptop by this fall so I don't need it now but I was wondering if anyone would have an assumption when it coming out.

Hey all, I've been having this issue ever since I got my laptop, and I am completely lost on how to fix it. The laptop simply refuses to go into sleep mode, no matter how I try and do it (using command line, the power button, closing the lid, etc.). I have tried changing power options, disabling wake timers, changing BIOS settings, and none of it has helped. The only thing I have tried that has had some success was disabling Modern Sleep, and returning to S3 sleep, though that has its own set of issues. So I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to fix this before I just contact Dell and see what they can do.

I am trying to reinstall Windows 7 onto a new HDD for a friend's Dell XPS 15Z laptop, and I have been have major difficulty finding the correct ISO files for this model. It is for a Dell XPS 15Z (X16-96072). Anyone with ISO files for this specific model would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

So, I got a Dell XPS 9500 after seeing the review of it and it had the trackpad wobble issue so I contacted support and they sent someone to replace the palm rest/trackpad assembly. The thing is ever since they "fixed" it the charging indicator light has stopped working. Even after having to send it to their depot for other issues, the light still does not work. I decided to just check and see the guys at Dell just forgot to plug the light back in so I took the back panel off my laptop to get a closer look at the indicator light and I found that it straight up isn't there. I tried looking up the issue and I found a few people on Dell's forum and on Reddit who seemed to have the same issue, but no one has been able to find a fix or get a straight answer from Dell about it. So I am just wondering, does anyone know anything about this? Has this also happened to you? Anything can help.

I have a Dell XPS 9500 and I started having an interesting issue. I use the laptop docked with a WD19TB thunderbolt dock. This morning the computer kept on randomly shutting off. It only seemed to do it when it was connected to the dock, and it makes using the dock rather hard. I looked up the issue and it looks like some people with the same dock and 9750s had similar issues and they suggested changing the thunderbolt security level in the bios to no security. I tried that and it seems to have worked, but I was wondering if anyone has either had that happen to them, or if they know what could be causing the issue. Thank you.

Hey everyone I'm looking to do some upgrades to my laptop as it is showing it's age a bit now. When I bought the laptop I wrote down that I wanted to upgrade to a Samsung 970 Pro. At the time this had eye-watering speeds of 3,500/27,000 mbs read and write. Anyways, now it's 5(!) years later and I'm finally getting around to it, but it looks like for the same price or cheaper you can get nvme drives that will do full-on-eyes-crying speeds of 7000 mbs. Specifically the WD Black SN850, but is it compatible with my older laptop/can it handle all that extra speed or am I wasting my money? Good morning, Looking to buy a new laptop for my wife for professional photo editing, and I don't have a lot of experience when it comes to windows laptops or photo editing and she's not tech savvy in the slightest. She can't understand how to use MacOS so it has to be a windows laptop. We have a desk setup with my old peripherals and she will likely use it plugged into that a majority of the time (so I wish she'd just let me build her a desktop), but she claims she wants the flexibility to edit on the go so here we are. I've generally gravitated towards the XPS 15 but, given its availability and general price-point I'm after a second or third opinion. My understanding is that photo editing is rather CPU and memory intensive but not particularly demanding on the GPU so looking for something with a newer-gen i7 and 16-32G of RAM. Is the XPS 13 a comparable option? Is it the thermals that are going to separate the two? Please let me know if I should just pull the trigger on the XPS 15 or if I'm grossly overspending or overlooking a better option. Thanks

So I was watching some lectures on my xps and typing notes with my second monitor when suddenly the display on the xps just froze while everything else worked. I was able to recreate this issue while watching YouTube as well, I disabled the panel refresh option from the Intel application but I'm still getting random freezing. This is happening on both windows 10 and 11. Are there any tips as to how I could resolve this issue without having to deal with dell again?

Hi, I am currently using XPS 15 9570 with 16 GB ram. I want any suggestions for buying a new laptop under 1500 - 1700$. The problems with my dell machine are now stacked up, as i am fed up wit the hit an miss power button even i replaced my power button and whole keyboard layout from dell but still the laptops fingerprint reader and powering on is a big task on its own. Also even i have more than 50% free space it still is slow to start or open up applications. I am having many issues as with my current work i use around 15 GB RAM and face problems to install different packages (for programming) on windows so i am planning to either go the mac way or the Linux. Anyway i want a laptop with more processing speed and much more smoother than my XPS which has:intel 8th gen i7 processor and NVIDIA 1050 Ti Graphics card. I usually do analytics like hadoop and hivei also make models for research in blender and sometimes use Procreate for work. I need a better camera as dell is almost garbage in that aspect and good speakers as dell is also cheapo in that. Now that i think about it the dell XPS 15 is like an average laptop so if anyone wants to buy here is my review in a word. I am now considering M1 MacBook pro as an option and open to any suggestions?? HELP ME !!

Got it for Christmas, it was working fine but I decided to fresh install Windows 10 and did successfully. Today I decided to open up the bottom and add another nvme ssd as well as place tape under the battery to fix the dreaded “touchpad wobble.” What happened was it did not have another m.2 screw so I decided to just do the touchpad fix but couldn’t do that either as I did not have the correct screwdriver on hand (I’m not at my home), so I just decided it was a learning experience and screwed it back shut. When attempting to turn it on the backlight for the keyboard lit up but went away after a short while and the screen nor fans powered up. I went back and unplugged/replugged the battery and held down the power button to clear cmos. Still nothing. All I can say is plugged in the power light slowly flashes on and off but opening the lid does not do anything. This is giving me quite the scare, anything I can do? I’ve checked the inside everything looks in place.

TLDR I honestly wanted to really like this laptop. Specs are great, build quality is great, huge fan of the replaceable battery, RAM, and SSD. Defiantly not a huge fan of all the stability issues it has. Has anyone else been experiencing similar issues with their XPS 9570 or similar devices here on the LTT forums? I noticed many people share the same complaints on reddit and Dell forums? I had my Dell XPS 9570 for about half a year now. I purchased it after hearing many YouTube reviewers and online sources raving about how good this laptop is. Having an i7-8750H, upgradable DDR4, upgradable M.2, dedicated GPU, incredible 4k display, all in a reasonable sized and well built chassis quite possibly makes the perfect laptop. But sadly I was not aware of the bad side of the 9570, mainly stability issues. I have been experiencing multiple daily random reboots (sometimes BSODs or just a black screen and reboot). Sometimes I would get up to five random reboots in a row. It would even randomly reboot when just sitting idle on the Windows desktop. It doesn't matter if it is on-battery or plugged-in. Event Viewer lists these sources when it happens: - volmgr - Distributed COM - Kernal-Boot Sleep is absolute trash on this laptop. When I closed the lid putting the laptop to sleep at night, it would turn back on at 3AM with the fans at 100% and almost boiling to the touch. Had the same scenario happen twice in my backpack. Took it out of the backpack, fans 100%, so hot it might literally catch fire. Obviously because no airflow in the backpack. Sleep somewhat worked best when I disabled "Modern Standby" in the Registry. But then it completely broke again when Microsoft got rid of the disable "Modern Standby" Registry entry in Windows 10 v. 2004. I just gave up on using sleep and started using hibernation. Hibernation works better than using sleep but there are still some hiccups when using that. I had three cases where the laptop would simply just not turn on. Plugged in or un-plugged just simply would not turn on. The battery was about 50% charged according to the battery level indicator lights on the right side of the laptop. I had to open the laptop, disconnect and reconnect the battery to force reset it. Then it turned on. The first time this happened I was in away at school with no access to a decent Torx screwdriver to pop the bottom case open. I was stuck without a laptop for two days. Now I just carry a Torx screwdriver in my backpack because I expect the problem to return in the future. The Dell XPS was suppose to be the flagship Windows laptop and it better be given its price point. Back in 2018, I would be furious if I paid ~$2000 for a laptop that doesn't sleep and randomly reboots. I am giving up on it and probably going to sell it. Thinking of buying a ThinkPad T470 or T480 as a replacement for now. I have done a lot of troubleshooting all not fixing the problem: - Reinstalling Windows using Dell OEM Recovery Media - Reinstalling Windows using Windows Media Creation Tool - Using Dell drivers from website - Letting Windows Updates install drivers on its own - Using NVIDIA drivers from NVIDIA's website - Using NVIDIA drivers from Dell's website - Disabling C-States in BIOS - Replacing RAM and SSD - Reset BIOS and updated to latest revision - Tried Ubuntu and Solus for a while (random shutdowns gone but still sleep issues) - unfortunately I cannot use Linux as I use the Adobe Suite along with some applications that are only on Windows All combinations still resulted in stability issues and sleep issues.

I have first XPS 15 L502X which was launched in october 2010. It recently its screen was giving a lot of problem. So I opened it fully and cleaned it and put it back. It kept me giving 4 or 2 beep alerts which mean memory error. So, I tried several combinations of RAMs and slots. It did not work. Then I tried without any RAM. It failed. But then after that, it worked for both RAMs. But then again failed with beeps and then worked. Point is, its not stable. Plus in all that efforts, I broke its screen bracket. Anyway screen was giving an issue. So I thought that what if I totally detach the screen and connect directly to external monitor. But according to this link, it seems that its not possible. I tried and it is giving me 5 beeps alert which is display error. Currently, it is again failing to start. So I was thinking its time to say bye bye this machine. Somehow I dont feel to, as it contains: Core i7 2630QM 16 GB DDR 3 RAM 512 GB SSD Full specs / component list here. What could be the best way I can reuse these / maximum of these / possibly all components to form stable system? I thaught if I can build a mini PC, but seems that there is no motherboard which can support this processor, at least not available now in India. But can I use SSD and RAM in some mini PC? Can someone suggest any motherboard / NUC kit etc? Or else am I left with only option of using SSD with external USB adapter or in some other machine and discard both RAM and processor? Or do you still think I can still fix this machine well?

I recently purchased the Dell XPS 9510 and for some reason the bloatware is using like 10GB of memory idly and it has a massive amount of screen tearing. I have tried deleting bloatware, but this just caused my laptop to blue screen every few minutes and I tried selecting just the integrated graphics and just the graphics card to try to stop the screen tearing but none of this worked. The only thing I have done is do a fresh install of windows from a usb drive, so I was just wondering if this is the only solution or if it is a solution at all.

As the title says I've been eyeing the XPS 15 and Blade 15 but I'm torn because I've heard nothing but great things about the XPS in reviews and ratings but quite the opposite from friends. The Blade I've seen highly ranked in a lot of reviews but always gets beat out. I'll be going to college so it will be used for everything including gaming (nothing crazy), Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, and Premiere, and the typical college stuff. The XPS has the better screen and is cheaper but the Blade has a better CPU and GPU, I'd like it to last all 4 years of college so reliability and durability are pretty important. Any input would be appreciated. I am thinking about buing a new laptop soon since my old MBP2013 is a bit problematic from time to time. Don't get me wrong it still works but the battery is worn and editing 36MP tifs isn't exactly fun from time to time, and it is getting a bit slow. I should be updating to a newer OS version but since the last update brought some problems with it regarding most programs not working I am a bit hesitant to do it. Still this one will not go to a landfill, I might replace the battery, clean and update it an give it to my wife for school work (mainly office programs). What do I need it for? Photo and Video editing on the go - Lightroom (switching to capture one as soon as I get my new camera) - Photoshop (not exactly sure to what other editor I will switch to but I want to get out of the adobe stuff) - Davinci Resolve - Blender (very light work maybe) I do have a Desktop PC for intensive tasks so this one should really be the one you take with you on vacation to edit some photos there, maybe cut some drone footage and so on. As far as it goes I am mainly a Windows user (and don't own any other apple devices than my MBP), but when it comes to laptops I did not find it as pleasurable working on windows compared to mac. Windows laptops caught up a lot in the 10 years since I bought my macbook but I have a recent top spec Lenovo P1 for CAD work and it sometimes really isn't all that great (hardware and software-wise). My first idea would logically be to again buy a new macbook, but since I have no clue about the new apple chips I wouldn't know which one to get. Comparing offers from Dell unfortunately aren't cheap either and/or do not offer upgradable RAM and SSD anymore - M1/M2 Macbook Air? - Macbook Pro 14 (being crazy expensive even in the base config for my taste)? - XPS 15 (expensive in the config I would choose and not upgradable) - XPS 13 (maybe a bit weak for the task and probably also not upgradable) I hope someone can give me a recommendation which way to go, if lets say a Macbook Air would be sufficient for my use case that would be an no-brainer (price wise) but the MBP 14 is quite a hefty price jump there. Hi everyone, I've a Dell XPS 15 9570 with i7-8750h and 16gb of ram (I'm not sure if this matters). I'm planning to buy an eGPU solely for gaming. I've done sone researches and I'm pretty sure about going for the Razer Core X but I'm open to advices on this one too. Anyway, the main question of this post is: what GPU is recommended to pair with my laptop? I was initially thinking of a GTX 1080 or a RTX 2070, but I'm afraid my laptop would bottleneck it and it would be a waste of money. I'm basically looking for the best quality/price ratio where i can get the most out of the GPU. Thanks!

For some reason, the HDR is not working. The Windows HD Color setting toggle for HDR is turned on, but it does not appear the option on youtube and other apps. I've updated the drivers from Intel and NVIDIA, BIOS, I did a system scan using Prompt Command, restarted the system after every procedure, and it is still not working. I just received my new Dell XPS 15 9500 and straight after conecting my bluetooth headphones Bose 700, I am experiencing echoing and turning everything related with audio into one big nightmare. Firstly I thought I have an issue with my headphones but after playing around and try to pair them with my phone or my old laptop where these headphones working just fine. I found out that the issue is with the laptop. Is here anyone who could to help me out please?

I have a XPS 15 (7590) and it had some issues with sleep mode, basically it turns off (in the forced way, so no saves or anyithing). Intel "fixed this" in the 1.6 BIOS update, but fixing this required them to disabe undervolting, whitch is a really bad thing on XPS 15, I just lost 15% on cinebench R20 and my idle temps are higher (+ 4-5 C), it was on -0.160. I can fix the no udervolt issue with factory reseting the BIOS (it works on 1.6 BIOS, maybe on 1.7 too idk), but then the sleep mode issue comes back too. Is there any way to fix both issue in the same time, or will they fix it anytime soon? p.s. I love u intel but f*** u

I am using an XPS15 9560 since mid 2017 for college classes, some ansys, cad and some games. I bought the laptop with a 256 gb ssd with the max battery option so don't have an empty drive enclosure. I started to run out of space on my current drive so bought myself a 1TB one. Now, I only have one m.2 slot and need to move everything to the new ssd. Any help is greatly appreciated. Hello! FYI: I am an architecture Student in Vienna, Austria. I mostly rely on CAD Programs f.e. Autodesk AutoCad, Revit and other Programs such as SketchUp (with Vray), Photoshop and MS Office. I already have a pretty decent PC with a i5-8600k, 32GB RAM and a GTX 1070TI. It runs everything very good --> so I have a system that is capable of rendering and handling larger Revit files. I also have an Iphone 6s and an IPad Pro 12.9" 2018 which I use to sketch and draw. Currently I use a 5 year old Asus Gaming Laptop, which is awfully heavy and the battery died recently, which means I need to upgrade. I am somewhat in the apple ecosystem with Iphone and Ipad (which I very much like) but I am having trouble to decide between a new MBP 16" (probably would wait for antoher refresh this summer) and the coming Dell XPS 15 7500. MBP Thoughts: reliable (somehwat) Could use my Ipad as a secondary screen Radeon PRO drivers, which work well for some CAD programs, for tohers they don't would have to learn MAC OS would have to learn programwise a new UI would have to switch between UI of MAC programs and Windows programs when coming home, since when I am at home I want to use my Desktop new Shortcuts Bigger Battery than XPS 99WHrs/87WHrs Airdrop would be nice Would have to use parallels in order to use Revit, since there is no native version --> more expensive,100 Bucks more expensive (about 500€(540USD) XPS 15 thoughts: Very nice screen Most CAD progams are nicely optimized for NVIDIA cheaper very good looking but MBP is nicer would only have to install the programs and learn nothing new I think bigger and therefore heavier charging cable (I guess) Could easily switch between Laptop and PC --> now new Keyboard Layout and Shortcuts Biggest positive for MBP: ecosystem Biggest negative for MBP: learn new UI and having to switch between MAC and PC. These are just some toughts so let me please know if you come up with other arguments. I know I could run all other Programs too in Parallels but I just don't want to buy a Mac and then just use Windows anyway. Following Specs for MBP: 10 series I9 (not the HK but the second best one), 32GB RAM, Radeon pro 5500 with 8GB VRAM and a 1 TB SSD Specs for the XPS 15: same as above, 32GB RAM, 1660TI (probably a MAXQ) 6GB VRAM and a 1TB SSD. I am only considering these two Laptops eventough a larger G14 would be nice^^ Please let me know based on what Arguments which desicion you would make. Furthermore, thanks to everyone reading this and helping me out! I am a little biased towards the Mac but I know it would be somewhat a "dumb" desicion since not even all programs have a native MAC version and who knows which CAD-programs I will have to use in the future.
