Hi, I was following a tutorial to upgrade ram on my laptop. Each RAM slot has 2 retention arms that hold the RAM stick down. The idea is that you push them away and the RAM stick pops up. When I was doing it, I must have pushed the retention arms too far and now they are stuck. A little bit of metal won't let them get back into the right posirions. I can't get them to close and the new RAM sticks won't stay in the right position without them. I'm running out of ideas at this point and I really need help

Need vBIOS for Dell XPS 15 7590 (GTX 1650)
BuffJesus posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Device ID: 10DE 1F91-1028 0905 I've had this laptop for four years, and for the past two, it's GPU hadn't been working. I had blamed it on both GeForce Experience and probably the chip being fried. But turns out neither are the case, it's just a corrupted vBIOS. I'll attach a GPU-Z screenshot. Dell Support won't help, the shop is probably not gonna be any help either given the country I'm in, and I am really possessive about my laptop. So please, if someone who has an XPS 15 7590, check through GPU-Z if the Device ID matches, if so, please get in touch with me. I hope this community would be more receptive to my problem than the others have been -
Hi Guys and Gals. For your pain, pleasure and entertainment i'm posting my build that i took to LTX 2019 BYOC with me. Does anyone have an idea when the 2021 XPS 15 will be released? I need a new laptop by this fall so I don't need it now but I was wondering if anyone would have an assumption when it coming out.

Disclaimer: The following report was first posted on Reddit here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/lj5qak/xps_13_display_issue_affecting_7390_9300_and_9310/ The following findings are published after being independently verified by other users of models 9310 (clamshell and 2-in-1), 7390 2-in-1, 9300. Please help me to spread awareness for this issue so that it gets attention by Dell. If you happen to own such a device, no matter if clamshell or 2-in-1 variant, please check in your own interest whether your unit is affected too and leave a comment! Feedback from both, affected and not affected users is highly appreciated, but please make sure you explicitly tried the outlined steps to reproduce. Short description of the issue: When the machine is connected to AC without the battery being charged and CPU and RAM are stressed at the same time the display brightness starts to flicker. Turning off turbo boost or limiting cpu frequencies to 3.3Ghz makes the flickering go away. As a consequence the issue does not occur when running on battery because the cpu frequencies are limited there. Disconnecting AC power solves the issue instantly. The flickering can be very subtle as well as very noticeable and according to feedback I got from other users it may be more or less intense depending on the AC adapter you use. This issue is not related to the operating system at all. It was reproduced across different 9310 2-in-1 units in Windows and Linux, as well as with the Diagnosis tool in the Bios (by running the ePSA memory test). Steps to reproduce in Bios (ePSA): The following steps to reproduce were tested on the 9310 2-in-1 and confirmed by other 9310 2-in-1 users, I have no feedback yet whether those steps to reproduce work as well for the 9300 and the 7390 2-in-1. Ideal prerequisites: Make sure you are in a low light environment and the screen brightness is low. This is not a strict requirement, but makes the problem more apparent. Also your device should not be warm, as thermal throttling could make the issue unreliable / hard to reproduce. Make sure Intel Turbo boost as well as Intel Speed Step are enabled on your device. Make sure your machine is connected to the original 45W AC adapter and battery is not charging. Start your Computer and press F12 to go into BIOS Select "Diagnosis" and immediately press Esc to abort it In the bottem left edge, select "Advanced Test" Untick everything apart from "Memory test" Start the test and watch out for display flickering. It can be very subtle at times, so watch closely, stop and start the test a few times if you don't see any flickering. Steps to reproduce in Windows and Linux: The following instructions may sound weird, but they are creating the perfect combination of cpu and memory utilization to trigger the flickering issue. Prime95's Large FFT stress test makes the display flicker as well in the first few seconds, but Google Chrome Webbrowser is better at triggering a workload where flickering occurs. Make sure Intel Turbo boost as well as Intel Speed Step are enabled on your device and you do not have any energy saving power plan in place that limits turbo boost. Make sure your machine is connected to the original 45W AC adapter and battery is not charging. Install Google Chrome Go to Settings / Advanced / System, untoggle "Use hardware acceleration when available" and relaunch Chrome Go to Youtube and play a 4K video like this one here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXb3EKWsInQ Set the video resolution to 4K (this increases memory and cpu usage and simulates a workload triggering the flickering) Scroll down to the comments so that you have a mostly white display background Observe the brightness of the display flashing / flickering. Videos of the issue: Reproduction of the issue in Bios can be seen here: https://youtu.be/VGofdkQ7iU4 Reproduction of the issue in Windows can be seen here: https://youtu.be/PeQfDFbaH3g Reproduction of the issue in Linux as well as the workaround limiting the cpu frequency to 3.3 Ghz can be seen here: https://youtu.be/bPtGS-1antE Workaround: Disable Turbo Boost in the Bios. If you are a Linux user, you can simply limit turbo boost to a maximum frequency of 3.3Ghz: cpupower frequency-set -u 3.3GHz Keep in mind, this is not persistent across reboots, so if you want to make this persistent place it in a startup script. Models affected: Please note: I have talked to most of the reddit users in this list to make sure they are indeed affected by the issue I described. XPS 13 9310 2-in-1: I own that model (i7, 16GB, FHD, Manufacture Date: 12/04/2020). Got my second motherboard (Manufacture Date: 09/30/2020) already and I'm still affected. Reddit user u/FaSuu is affected: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/la7lu1/new_2020_xps_13_2in1_after_3_weeks/gm3cvji/?context=3 Reddit user u/kaiser1025 is affected, got screen and motherboard replaced and still has the issue. Was so kind to confirm both the issue and the workaround. Reddit user u/aleksfadini was so kind to confirm both the issue and the workaround. XPS 13 7390 2-in-1: Reddit user u/Taylen137 has this issue, got the screen replaced as well as a replacement unit, all of no avail: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/ifegy0/xps_13_7390_2in1_slight_screen_flickering_when/ Reddit user u/frustatedclient11 is affected: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/kwm8wa/review_xps_13_2in1big_buck_little_bang/ Reddit user u/Firejay112 is affected and goth both screen and motherboard replaced, which didn't help: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/kwm8wa/review_xps_13_2in1big_buck_little_bang/gjabism?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 Dell forum user "e19y82" has this problem: https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/Bug-Report-XPS-9300-screen-brightness-blink-flicker/m-p/7782999/highlight/true#M76816 XPS 13 9310: Dell forum user "ce123" (Reddit user u/undostres123) reports to be affected here: https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/Bug-Report-XPS-9300-screen-brightness-blink-flicker/m-p/7805687/highlight/true#M78802 and here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/kwm8wa/review_xps_13_2in1big_buck_little_bang/gmz1ufc?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 XPS 13 9300: A real life acquaintance owns a XPS 13 9300 (i7, 16GB, FHD, Manufacture Date 01/02/2020) and never noticed any flickering, however I was able to trigger it by running a stress test and the steps to reproduce in chrome at the same time. It is quite hard to get that machine to boost to high frequencies but the flickering is there as soon as the frequencies are reached. Dell forum user "zrs5532" had this problem, got screen and motherboard replaced and finally got a replacement unit and nothing helped: https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/Bug-Report-XPS-9300-screen-brightness-blink-flicker/td-p/7640763 Dell forum users "manylander" and "TrueNorth17" also have this problem, see the same link as above. Youtube user "R Z" had this issue on his 9300 as well, see his comment under the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKRyV1ly1dg Analysis: The evidence so far suggests that all 9310 2-in-1 units as well as all 7390 2-in-1 units are affected by this issue (both FHD+ and 4K panels). Thanks to all the Reddit users who were so kind to verify the issue in a personal chat: u/aleksfadini, u/FaSuu, u/kaiser1025, u/Tylen137, u/Firejay112.

Hello dear community, My name is Dino, and I am a CCNA network engineer and a computer geek who also likes making music. This is my first post so I'll try to be as detailed as possible in a easy-to-understand matter. I have a major issue with the XPS 9500, a laptop I have saved up for after years of watching incredible reviews on it, including Linus', I have spent months looking for a fix but I found none so here I am on THE forum to go! I do music production and I enjoy gaming in my free time, but I have noticed that the fans ramp up a lot, yet the laptop thermal throttles like CRAZY. I am aware this is not a gaming laptop but with specs like these... it should be defending it's price tag. I even went ahead and played with the BIOS settings, stuff like Intel Speed Shift, Speed Step and C-State, but none of them helped (disabling Speed Shift actually locked my CPU clock to 2.6GHz which was a no go). Some have advised downgrading BIOS v1.6.1 to an earlier one, but it seems Dell doesn't let you revert after the 1.6.1 upgrade... Below is a screenshot from Ghost Recon: Wildlands as an example (a game that can be run by these specs on High - Ultra easily) - It drops from 4.6GHz to a mere 1.6-2.2GHz and I barely get 60FPS out of it. Any help is appreciated https://imgur.com/rZ1NvKR Specs: i7-10750H - 2.6 up to 5GHz, 6 cores 12 threads GTX 1650Ti - 4GB VRAM 32GB RAM - 2933MHz - dual channel 1TB NVMe SSD

I have had my gpu undervolted on my xps 15 for more than a year I think. I made it so that it didn't go above 0.8v 1300mhz. Some time ago, just randomly, my gpu would just stop working. When I'm browsing the web, or using photoshop, (just randomly) the screen will flicker and the readings from afterburner would disappear. The problem occurs even when it's not undervolted (in stock settings). For a long time, I just dealt with it by restarting my laptop and going on with my day. Then I got tired of it. So I reset my laptop 2 nights ago. All was good. Until I decided to install afterburner to monitor my gpu clock and Temps. But after setting up just my OSD settings and loading up a game, the game crashed and gpu poof. Uninstalled it and all was good. So I installed gpu tweak 2 instead. So, any insights on what could have caused this behavior? TLDR: Afterburner (stock settings) makes gpu go poof and restarting makes it turn on again.

Hey everyone, I have Dell xps 8700 with intel i7-6700k, 32 GB RAM, 500GB M.2 SATA, 2TB HDD with OEM exclusive motherboard. My system has weird issue that i am not able to figure it out after all troubleshooting efforts, I hope someone can help me here. Issue is, everytime I start up PC it will stuck on Dell logo screen nothing happens. So I have to hold power button and power down system. 5 Sec. later if I turn on PC, it will boot up just fine like nothing is wrong with system. No error report, no crash event or any software error. Everything just works fine. Now if I shut down system and attempt to power back on immidiately, it will do the same thing that mentioned above. I did bios rest, troubleshoot RAM/storage, replace CMOS battery, took system apart and reinstall fresh windows but issue is still there. DELL support wasn't much of support either. Please help me out with whatelse i can do to troubleshoot and solve this issue. This is my backup system but it has been so good to me for many years that I wanna keep using. Thank you so much in advance and I appreciate your time. (Apologies for weak english)

Laptop has high activity while it should be in Sleep
patar.thedino posted a topic in Troubleshooting
Hello! I have had a dell xps 9370 for about 4 years and its recently had a problem with entering sleep mode. I close the screen at 70% and by the morning its at 10%. I have both a battery report and a SleepStudy screenshot. It's these ridiculous screen off, sleep loops that are killing it, and it has hibernate turned off. I have no clue what could be wrong, I've changed the power settings but nothing has helped so far. Any recommendations or ideas would be more than helpful. -
I'm having a problem docking my laptop to my monitor and hoping someone can help. My current setup: Dell U4919DW monitor and connected to the monitor I have a Logitech Brio 4k webcam, a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2gen audio interface, and Kanto YU 2 speakers. I then use the provided Dell Type C Gen2 5A cable to go from the USB C port from the monitor to a thunderbolt 4 port on my Dell XPS 17 9710 laptop (and then use a Logitech MX Master Keys and MX Master 3 keyboard/mouse via bluetooth). This cable also provides video to the monitor and power to the laptop. I have been experiencing intermittent problems (roughly 2-3x a day) where everything freezes up, get a USB error saying "USB device not recognized" (even though I didn't plug or unplug anything), but then ultimately have to unplug the laptop and do a restart to get things working again. Recently, I plugged all my devices directly into the laptop/hdmi to the monitor and the problem is gone. Dell tech support has ran multiple diagnostic tests on my laptop, and it appears to be fine. My guess is it's either a faulty cable docking the laptop to the monitor or I have too much crap plugged into my monitor. It appears everything works great, until I get that random freeze/USB error. I can't figure out how to tell how many things and what type of things I can have plugged in via USB on this monitor. Does anyone know? But, if it is the cable, should I replace it with the same type (Type C Gen2 5a) or go with a Thunderbolt 4 cable? I'm a caveman when it comes to this subject. Any help is welcome!!

I have a Dell XPS 15 9500 (Intel Core i7-10875H, 16gb ram, 1TB Storage), what I mostly use it for is Graphic design. I am looking to buy more ram, as I verry often reach its limit (above 80-90%) as i keep too many programs like InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator, Chrome (too many tabs). running simultaneously. Should I upgrade to a 32 or 64gb ram, as I am not sure if 32 would be enough down the road. Also, what ram speeds should I go for, (the stock ram is 2933MHz)? Also, I’ve never changed ram on a laptop, so any tips would be helpful. Thanks, in advanced.

https://deals.dell.com/en-us/productdetail/a8qp or https://www.ebay.com/itm/304032708760 With gpu prices so ridiculous rn, I rather not build a pc. Which of these is better or is there anything definitively better for my budget?

Budget: 1600USD Overall Use- Light video editing on premiere pro, 1080p gaming mostly valorant, nfs heat, battlefield I'll start off with some background knowledge, I am in med school so a small device that i can used in small areas would be useful and i game at 1080p, 60fps is fine, I only need 144hz on e-sports titles. I used to have an xps 9575 and tried to replace it with a xps 9500 but it was defective and i have returned it and am awaiting a refund. This got me quite fed up and I have been wanting a desktop for quite some time. However due to the chip shortage, building my own is not the best idea so I was currently looking at ABS systems on newegg but it looks like i would have to change the cpu cooler , case and psu if i go that route. I also began to look at building a pc on cyberpowerpc but I am worried about something not working as I do not reside in the states. I planned to supplement this system with a surface pro 7 i5 from ebay to carry to school and just watch Netflix around the house but i have seen some over heating issues. I really dislike bulky gaming laptops hence I had an xps, I was thinking about razer but I see many posts that they break quickly and the warranty is garbage. Would you guys agree that a tablet and desktop is the best option for me or are there any other thin and light laptops capable of gaming that you recommend?

I have two monitors for my work pc. When I restart my computer my main monitor works fine but the second one goes into sleep mode and wont reconnect automatically. The only fix I've found is if I disconnect the cable from my monitor and reconnect it it will recognize the monitor and connect it.

Hello everyone, This is a tutorial on how to get colors right on Dell XPS series from this year, might apply to older models with Intel Command Center.. Windows 20H2 and Dell Premier Color don't work well together. Intel GPU driver and Dell's proprietary fight eachother. Some people say it's the Dell Premier Color bugging out the Intel software, some the other way around.. This has been a know bug for years, usually getting better or worse depending on what Windows version you're running (and drivers), but it seems like it's been really bad in the past couple months, since many people have been posting on forums, struggling to get rid of just the most rubbish banding you've ever seen, worse on the eyes than cheap IPS panel backlight bleed. Possible solutions, that don't work in most cases: 1. Close Dell Premier Color Result: no improvement 2. Close Dell Premier Color, then open Intel Command Center < Display < Color < Restore to original Color Result: In many cases, black screen that doesn't recover. It can be reenabled if you plug in an external monitor (or forcefully restart the system) and reopen DPC (dell premier colour) - but the issue persists. 3. Delete DPC, then Restore to original color Result: Black screen, need to reinstall DPC or force restart Solution that WORKED for me, after all others failed 1. Delete DPC 2. Delete Intel Command Center 3. Install DDU (display driver uninstaller), extract and open with administrator, uninstall Intel GPU driver - If you don't know how to use DDU, there are some tutorials on Youtube that will explain it better than me. But this is the options you should select. And then click "clean and restart" 4. Display driver will uninstall, the screen will go ape sh*t and all audio will die. The system will then restart. Don't let it scare you, everything is fine. 5. Once you log back in, go to windows update and check for updates. Windows will automatically download the media drivers and the display driver for you, after which you will restart the system again, if prompted. 6. Install Intel Command Center from Microsoft Store. It won't look the same as the one you had before, but that's okay, it's the same thing. Once it's installed, open it and check that all your System < Power related settings are the way you left them, with "panel self refresh" turned off and alike.. Congrats. It should be all good now. I hope this helps Cheers

Hello everyone, I'm currently 50/50 on the two laptops in the title, it's going to be my daily driver for quite some time, primarily for music production, and the occasional bit of video editing. One day I lean towards the XPS and the other I lean towards the Macbook, I love Mac's better ability to work with real-time audio, but the XPS has expandability going for it, as well as a slightly better screen (I work with film composition so having a really great display is important somewhat). Today I'm leaning more towards the macbook, simply because I want a device that is going to motivate me to be more productive, I also like the idea of working with Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro (my primary DAWs are Pro Tools and Cubase). I'm not concerned about the upcoming M1 chips, I understand they're likely going to be better for performance, but I just can't wait until they're out, and they're not guaranteed to work very well with certain plug ins that are essential for me. I'm happy to wait for the M1 tech to mature a bit before going for it. I'd be looking at the XPS 17 with 16GB RAM and the i7 10875H, or a Macbook (refurbished) with 32GB Memory and the i9. I'm not too sure if going for the 6 core i7 is going to future-proof me or not, I currently work on an i5 6600k which has seldom let me down in audio work, but I just don't know if the 10750H is going to keep up with what I need it to do. If anyone can recommend otherwise, then it'll surely save me a good bit of money. I'm mainly a windows user but I have a bit of a gaming problem, going Mac would force me to kinda go cold turkey and focus exclusively on actually being production, whilst the XPS will always have that sort of temptation to not be as productive. Anyone got any suggestions, recommendations or any comments? Many, many thanks Ethan

Hi guys, i recently bought an XPS 13 9310, the FHD one, but i just noticed that only the 4K one has hdr certification. YET they both have the exact same nits (500), so my screen should support hdr without too much harm, so is it a way to force it ? And I also encounter a problem because I seemingly cant have my screen go all the way up to 60 hz ? like it just sets itself to 59,950 hz according to windows and if i change it directly from the display settings to 60, it will go back to 59 automatically, is it normal ?

I have a Dell XPS 13 9380 that was using a Sonnet eGFX Box with an RX 580. It was working completely fine connected to a Thunderbolt 3 port on the computer, which ran it well. Recently every time I plug in the chord to the port, the eGPU will connect for a couple of seconds, then disconnect and keep reconnecting. I assumed it was an issue with the port or cable, but after switching the thunderbolt cable and seeing the same issues, as well as the port working fine for a charger, it must be something internally that is conflicting with the connection. Can anyone help me figure out how to stop my eGPU from disconnecting/connecting every couple seconds for no reason?

I recently purchased the Dell XPS 9510 and for some reason the bloatware is using like 10GB of memory idly and it has a massive amount of screen tearing. I have tried deleting bloatware, but this just caused my laptop to blue screen every few minutes and I tried selecting just the integrated graphics and just the graphics card to try to stop the screen tearing but none of this worked. The only thing I have done is do a fresh install of windows from a usb drive, so I was just wondering if this is the only solution or if it is a solution at all.

Hi, My Dell XPS 15 9510 wasn't charging, so Dell replaced the motherboard. Now the bluetooth is really stuttery and intermittent, it will work for a couple of seconds then start cutting in and out, making using a bluetooth mouse or headphones unusable. The wifi is plenty fast, but it doesn't show networks that it isn't connected to, so if I want to go somewhere else I can't connect to the wifi. I've tried reinstalling the network drivers and resetting the BIOS, with no luck. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this?
