I was able to get my hands on a Ryzen 5 5600 for free via some weird mail mix up, when I ordered some parts from Newegg. I of course used this to my advantage to challenge myself on whether or not I can install the most modern XP gaming rig I can. With some difficulty and no ACPI support (lol), I was able to get a Ryzen 5th gen Windows XP PC up and running. The best part? I have very little driver incompatibilities! LAN, sound, graphics and USB 3 all work. thanks to the fan-made Windows XP Integral Edition, coming with drivers out of the box to help install XP on newer platforms. Without this software, I would have a major headache and this project could not be possible. Here are the specs: Ryzen 5 5600 CPU - one core enabled, disabled hyperthreading. XP doesn't play nice with multiple cores. 16GB DDR4-2400 - I know, low speed for Ryzen, but XP only detects 4GB and I doubt memory speed matters for let's say Oblivion and Half-Life 2 on 3440x1440. AsRock X370M Motherboard - got this as a deal when an eBay seller sent me a faulty motherboard and send this one as a way of apologizing. EVGA GTX 960 FTW - this is the latest graphics card to *officially* support XP. To my knowledge, people have gotten the 980Ti and even the Titan to play nicely with it, given some minor driver tweaks.) 256GB SSD - don't need much storage to play older games. 256GB seems to be adequate enough for my needs, for now. EVGA 750W non-modular PSU - no need to say more. My favorite part is that my GPU has Displayport, so I can use XP on my ultrawide monitor, at a resolution of 3440x1440. Here is the HWInfo for the XP build for tha proofz.

Hello! As the title says, I'm trying to install a program called Audaces, but the thing is that it only works on Windows Xp (with SP3). I've tried running it with windows compatibility but the app checks what version of windows it runs and forces you to play by their rules. So I've installed it on a VM on my computer and it runs perfectly, no problem there. So I just copied the virtual drive and installed it on a laptop that runs the same version of VirtualBox. Let me tell you a bit of Audaces before continuing since it's a very obscure app thanks to it being very industry specific (for designing clothing I believe) It's divided into three apps Trazos Moldes Digiflash Okay, that's about it, really. So Trazos and Moldes runs with no problem on both Vms (PC and Laptop) but the digiflash runs on my pc but on the laptop it only shows a pop-up that says Digiflash.exe has detected a problem and must be closed (in spanish is "DigiFlash.exe ha detectado un problema y debe cerrarse") And that's pretty much all the information that windows give you (there's the advanced info, but there's just a bunch of code that's way too technical, If you need/find that info useful I'll send it). So I've installed it on two different laptops and both of them show me the same error. Drivers? No idea. I also skipped the whole VM process and I installed it on a hard drive with dual boot with the same results. Thanks for reading!

Hey, guys. We have some older systems at work that run some of our processes. The computers are all XP service pack 2 and 3 and their hardware from that era as well. I'd *like* to clone them to a virtual machine on a new computer, in lue of hardware failure. However, I haven't found a good way to do so, largely due to drivers. How should I tackle this issue? Any help would be great. I'd like to build plug and play backups in case of a failure. Thanks a bunch

I have been attempting to get an old Dell Optiplex 620 to run some sort of OS. I replaced the faulty XP hard drive but now have no OS that will boot. I have tried multiple Linux distros, Windows 10, and XP seemed to boot, but wouldn't work ( the hard drive was clicking as well). I tried booting from USB and DVD but neither seem to work. Windows 10 got to a screen with the logo and a spinning loading wheel, which just went straight back to the BIOS, and no others got past this screen, and the keyboard didn't register my presses. I rebooted and the same thing keeps happening. Sometimes it gets past that but just shows a J and a blinking cursor. Is all hope lost or is there a solution. I was hoping to put a q6600 and a GTX 470 in here for a little light retro gaming, will that fix the problem or is it not worth spending any more time/money on this?

This is, I think, significant enough of a story to be separate from the main WCrypt thread. In a surprised move, Microsoft has released a patch to fix the security issue that WannaCrypt exploits to spread itself on Windows version that are no longer supported. It isn't forcing people to update their OS to the latest version of Windows to get it. The company has released a patch for Windows Server 2003, Windows 8.0 and even Windows XP to stop this ransomware and fix the the security issue. Source: www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/microsoft-releases-patch-for-older-windows-versions-to-protect-against-wana-decrypt0r/ blogs.technet.microsoft.com/msrc/2017/05/12/customer-guidance-for-wannacrypt-attacks/ From the first source: From Microsoft's statement: It's nice to see Microsoft stepping up to offer support for something not supported, though I imagine several big corporations have paid a pretty penny behind the scenes...

I have an old dell latitude D620 that i have been running various linux distros on for awhile now. Well recently i decided to put win xp pro back on it so as to play some games i have on disc that ran on xp and wont run on anything else i have. The install went fine and it booted right up but it wont recognize the wireless card or the speakers on the laptop and wouldnt even let me use headphones for sound instead. The install for one of the games started but without sound i dont want to play it. What the hell is going on? Why am i having such a hard time playing these games? (anno 1503 AD the new world. and, Command and conquer red alert 2) If anyone can help me get the laptop working properly or even just come up with a way i can play these games (ive tried windows 10 and virtual machines) well, thatd be just great.

Has anyone else noticed how much of a mess the Titan series nomenclature is now? For the Maxwell chips, we got the "GTX Titan X". It should have been the "GTX Titan M" in my opinion, to let the consumers know it was a Maxwell chip. Then Pascal came out, and Nvidia branded it the "NVIDIA Titan X", which many people were quick to criticisze the confusing branding. But something that not a lot of people noticed was another Titan that was slipped in almost directly after the 1080Ti was released. This new card was labeled the "Nvidia Titan Xp", going along with the public's unofficial branding of the first Pascal Titan iteration. Did anyone else besides JayzTwoCents get frustrated over this? Should we ban Nvidia from using "X" to label any more Titans?

Hello, I'm new here. Did you have a game growing up that you loved playing and it doesn't work with your current OS? It doesn't work with a virtual machine? (if you even know how to make a virtual machine) If you said yes you're in the same boat I'm in. The (fake) PC Master Race always says this to me "Ah just slap a Virtual Machine and you should be set" or "PCs are far more backwards compatible than consoles". I'm not trying to start another war but there are two problems with the above statements. ---If a computer is "the ultimate backwards compatible machine" shouldn't it be able to run without VM? (I tried compatibility mode and the surface options) ---If I'm not Part of the PC Master race that can perform dark magic, is installing a VM a wise move? (pain in the butt to fix if things go wrong for someone with little skill) I was thinking is it possible that the PC Master race can learn something from the Console Clan? Why not make a Windows XP "Console"? Think about it; Updates won't be needed or a large graphics card. So it could be quite thin. Some may be asking why not just buy an old PC? It will not be a small form factor not to mention the big power draw. I started pondering why not take a laptop and convert it to a "Windows XP Machine" I was wondering is it possible? I'd like to be able to put it under my TV. What does Linus the Wizzard think? It would make for a cool and creative episode. Most Importantly what do you guys think? The games in question; Lego Rock Raiders Lego Island Lionel Train Town there are others but I can't get them off the top of my head. My system; Ryzen 1600 Mini ITX Gigabyte AB350N- GAMING WIFI EVGA GTX1050 Ti Windows 10

Britain's brand new aircraft carrier runs on ... XP
dfsdfgfkjsefoiqzemnd posted a topic in Tech News
Britain's latest aircraft carrier, the £3 billion HMS Queen Elizabeth was launched earlier this week. Reportedly the brand new flagship of the Royal Navy is running some (or maybe all) of its IT on Windows XP and will keep doing so until at least 2026, way beyond the deadline for even XP Embedded/POSready. Source : http://uk.businessinsider.com/queen-elizabeth-aircraft-carrier-is-running-on-windows-xp-2017-6?r=US&IR=T Source 2 : http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/06/27/hms-queen-elizabeth-running-outdated-windows-xp-software-raising/ So to those saying that "if you don't want ransomware etc you should just update to Windows 10", this should indicate that it isn't always that easy. I'm fairly confident that it's not the price of some Win10 licenses that's stopping them from upgrading. -
Hey guys, I'm having some trouble. I need to install Windows XP on my HP Pavilion 13-a013cl. I'm using XP SP3 and nLite to slipstream drivers. I tried slipstreaming some basic SATA drivers, but setup didn't detect my drive. I haven't had much luck finding the mobile chipset drivers. I'm running on Intel Core i5-4210u on this machine. Thank you!

Alright, so, weird problem here: i had a computer running windows vista, but then i changed some of its hardware and for some reason it wouldn't boot. tried setting it to oobe/audit mode but that didn't work either. so i went to reinstall vista just to find out that when i boot it to the cd it says "windows is loading files" and when it finishes it just gets stuck.i transferred the hard disk to another pc and tried it again and it worked perfectly so i turned on oobe and transferred it back just to find out that, again, it crashes on boot. so i had the idea to install windows XP and then upgrade it from there (because windows XP's installer uses a different format, i thought it might work) and surprisingly, not only did it install it, but also boot into it! however, my version of windows XP is 32 bit and windows Vista is 64, so i couldn't upgrade that way... so what i've got now is a computer that will boot to XP but not any of the newer versions of windows (tried it with 10 also). i SUSPECT that the problem MIGHT be my bios, since they seem to be somewhat corrupt, however, i'm using a legacy MSI board that seems to lack any kind of bios flashing software (model: P965 Neo). i've also tried installing MSI's Live Update 6, but it requires .NET framework 4.0 and windows XP doesn't come with it. when i tried to install it it failed with the error code "0x80070643". dunno what it means basically, can anybody explain to me why i'm able to boot to XP but not newer versions??? and also, what does error code 0x80070643 mean in the .NET framework installer???

Hi again .... In the old days when Vista was released ... I stuck with Winborg XP ... This Os worked 95% like XP, but had all the tosh stripped out + it came with a load of handy programs including the BSOD screen saver ( unlocked with hot-keys) that allowed me to leave my laptop un-attended in a Beijing cafe cos most people thought i was knackered I was thinking of doing the same when they released Win 8 (yuk), but I stuck with official Win7 this time. However I find myself in a similar situ once again & am wondering if anyone knows of a modded version of Win 10 that has a good rep, that I can have a play around with? Does this type of modding on current OS`s still happen these days?
