Hello there! I want to buy a new XLR Mic for streaming and vocal recording. Currently I use an AT2020 but I have problems with it such as too much background noise (welp thats what a condenser mic will do for you .-. ). As an interface, I currently use the RODE AI-1. looking forward to your recommendations c:

I just want to connect some headphones and a XLR mic to it, nothing else https://www.amazon.com/M-Audio-M-Track-Duo-Interface-Podcasting/dp/B08Q1NJSBQ/ https://www.amazon.com/BEHRINGER-Audio-Interface-1-Channel-UM2/dp/B00EK1OTZC/ I don't know the real difference between different types of audio interfaces, aside from "This one has more I/O connections than this other one"

I mean before purchasing, one option is to look it up on YouTube, but is there any other way? So far, with my next to zero knowledge I've come to the following conclusion: Less than 50 bucks = microphones pickup background noise easily Higher than 50 bucks = microphones do not pickup much background noise I highly doubt this is accurate, but it's what I have seen from videos

I've read that XLR to USB cables lower quality, so I guess we discard USB, right? But then... title

Hello guys, I am looking to upgrade to a higher quality XLR mic setup but am having trouble understanding what I do and dont need. At the moment I am currently looking at getting a Rode Podmic mixed with a GoXLR mini. Not sure if this will work at all or if it is a bit overkill so if possible could someone give some good reccomendations within a £300~ budget.

Summary Mac users can't properly use audio interfaces with XLR inputs in Discord since February 2020. Discord has a statement on their website that they actively work with the WebRTC open-source community to fix this bug. The community answered to the Discord developers' bug report that the version of WebRTC Discord is using was already one year old, and they should try a more recent version. Unfortunately, the development team of Discord never replied, and since nothing has changed so far, I assume the application still uses the old version. Quotes Discord Website joz...@discordapp.com (Last visit: 280 days ago) WebRTC community My thoughts I like the concept of Discord, and I use it every day. It is disappointing that a company with an assumed revenue of $120 million does not want to fix this bug. Furthermore, they are silencing complaints with a statement that is either untrue, or they are working in Valve Time. I cancelled my Discord Nitro subscription, and I hope that this gets some attention. After more than a year, they at least give us an update. I'm using an AT2020 mic, xlr cable to Behringer UMC22 pre-amp, USB cable to computer. My headphones are plugged in via 1/4 jack into the UMC22 for PC audio. Phantom power is on. I have to turn the gain all the way down to the lowest it will go and then also turn my Windows mic volume down to 80 to have an acceptable mic volume, otherwise I'm blowing out everyone's eardrums. I've been searching for solutions online, and so far the only thing that might be useful is using a 'Pad button' but neither the mic or pre-amp have one. One interesting thing is that if I press the 'direct monitor' button, the mic audio comes in very quiet. I have to turn the gain up how it should be to hear my mic properly. However then it's very loud on my pc for recording or on call in discord/zoom etc. Do I need a different pre-amp that has a Pad button? Or is there something else I'm doing wrong?

Well first off I wanna start with what has really been bugging me. Ive searched everywhere for an answer but nobody has asked. So with my XLR mic, there is a gain nob (of course), but what about control panel volume. Like what level should my mic be in control panel sound settings. Should it like be all the way up or in the middle or what. And my next question is direct monitoring. Ive looked up everything about my delay im having and nothing has fixed it. I have the UMC22 and ive installed and reinstalled the driver multiple times, but I still get a fat delay no matter what. Can somebody please help.

Hi, I want to upgrade my current audio setup but due to shortages there are barely any good microphones available, and if they are, they are much more expensive than what they should be but currently the Scarlett Solo is the cheapest it has been. So I wanted to purchase it, although right now I have a budget microphone set which is good enough. Its this one: https://www.yenkee.eu/studio-microphone-set/ymc-1030 Nothing special, but the microphone has an XLR connector. In the box it comes with a XLR to 3.5mm jack cable, and the microphone itself doesn't need Phantom Power at all, just the 1.5v, 3mA from the jack itself. I know they aren't a good match, will replace the microphone when they come back in stock but for the time being: Would they even work together? If I bought a normal XLR to XLR cable, plugged them together, would they work or is there any reason why it wouldn't be compatible with the Scarlett?

Hello All, Not sure if this is the right thread but I can't find anywhere else to post that has people knowledgeable on troubleshooting for podcasts regarding hardware linking to software. I recently purchased 5 mics (AT2020's) so I will have 6 XLR mics total (mine is an AT4040). I am intending on purchasing the Focusrite 18i20 interface which is rated to handle up to 8 individual channels. We only anticipate 6 mics being going at once; very rarely will we have 8 guests...that'd be a lot. It is well rated and I have had good experiences with their products in the past with my first two interfaces. My questions are: 1. What audio software would be best to record all mics on their own individual channels? Not streaming, just recording. I saw that OBS can handle up to 6 mics but the wording online is confusing. Does this mean I can assign each mic their own channel to be controlled pre/post-production and be able to edit them individually? If yes, does anybody know the quality of audio that is recorded via OBS. I am unfamiliar with this stuff, the last program I used was FL Studio which was notorious to crash and failing mid-recording. Would Adobe Audition be a good/better second option? 2. How do I incorporate a stream deck into the podcast so everyone can hear the audio being played when I select an audio clip to play? Is this easily done with OBS. If OBS is not an option, are there any programs that would work with both smoothly? I want to pretty much recreate the style that WAN show produces but instead of live streaming, it's pre-recorded. Similar to their bleep button for swearing on WAN, I want to be able to click a button for applause or to introduce our audio intro track and everyone on headphones be able to hear it. Does Adobe Audution allow the same features for a stream deck to be used like OBS does? Thank you all for your time and help and I look forward to hearing what you have to say about our initiative to begin our own casual-style podcast.

I have had some audio issues that I am at my wits end with. For reference, my audio setup is an Audio Technica AT2020 connected to Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2nd Gen originally and now a 3rd Gen audio interface. I’m on Windows 11 and my PC specs are on my profile. It all started when out of nowhere my Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2nd Gen was having issues with static. In audacity, in Discord, when listening to the mic through Windows, and through monitoring on the audio interface I could hear a strong static that would eventually drown out my voice. At this point I tried the following in order: Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers for the audio interface - Reinstalled motherboard audio drivers - Reseated cables (USB and XLR from both sides) - Tried different USB ports on my motherboard, case front panel, and PCIe USB card - Switched out cables (Both uSB and XLR, with the new XLR being a balanced cable) - Played with different sample rates and buffer sizes in the Focusrite drivers - Applied ferrite chokes to the all of the cables connected to the interface - Updated Windows - Cried tears of mental frustration - Plugged PC into multiple different outlets in the wall and on power strips - Unplugged other devices that are on the same circuit - Tried the interface on my laptop and had the same issue At this point I figured I had tried everything so I reached out to Focusrite support as my interface was still under warranty and they replaced it with their newer 3rd Gen model because the 2nd Gen was no longer in stock. All I had to change in my setup was switch out the USB type A to B for a USB type A to C, install new drivers and boom, new interface installed. Unfortunately, the problem persisted, still the same static, now with no idea how to fix it. Considering it was still happening and after doing a bit more research I figured it was still electrical interference that was the issue (even though it happened on my laptop, who knows) so I got an iFi iDefender that should provide clean power to the device and take the power supplied by the USB port out of the equation. After integrating that into my setup, it seemed to be fixed… for a few minutes. Clean, unobstructed audio, but only for a bit and then the static crept back in. At this point I have no idea what to do. The only things that I believe it can be are things that I cannot easily troubleshoot: - Bad mic - Outside interference - Windows 11 (could possibly troubleshoot but would be annoying, don't know if it is even plausible that is the issue) - Still somehow bad power delivery even though I tested on a laptop that was not connected to the mains Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I’ll even take an “I’m also having this issue” because then I won’t feel so alone.

Hi guys, hope we are all well and staying safe. So... I have a $250 budget for an entirely new microphone setup and I have only ever used a traditional headset and basic microphone on a stand. I'm looking for a condenser mic using an XLR input and I will need an audio interface that can connect to my PC via USB along with a mic arm all for $250 if possible. I'm very new to this whole other side of things with audio so any help would be greatly appreciated! Microphone: After looking at reviews and the price of the "Audio-Technica 20 Series AT2035 Cardioid Condenser Side Address Microphone", it seems like a good option and one of good quality. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002T45X1G/ref=crt_ewc_img_srh_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2OZDCM2SDJCA2 Audio Interface: In terms of an audio interface, i'm not looking for anything major in my first setup. Essentially, I just need a starter interface so I stumbled across the "Behringer 302USB Xenyx 5 Input Mixer". Again, it seems like a relatively low cost, solid mixer for around $50. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005EHILV4/ref=crt_ewc_img_dp_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1FEL2CWJXR5UG Mic Arm: That leaves me with around $50 for a mic arm that can attach to my desk, I am looking for one that is strong and the construction is solid so I wont have to replace it in the near future, but also don't want to spend excessive amounts on just the arm. The main thing I am confused about is how the AT 2035 will connect to the mic arm. I'm assuming that I have to ensure that the threaded mounting system matches on both the mic arm and the microphone itself? Again, I am very, very new to this side of computer tech so any help and links to anything $50 or under for a mic arm would be fantastic! Thank you for reading, Cheers, Jack

I have a very good friend who has a podcast and several radio shows, and he is currently running everything through an old Dell laptop, and an old Zotac Zbox ID42. He puts together quite a quality set of shows with this setup, but he really needs a better setup. He currently runs IPDTL, and Adobe Audition from the Zotac and everything runs through a Mackie ProFX8v2 mixer. He then has the Dell Laptop hooked up to the Mixer as well, primarily to play audio into the mix from YouTube and other sources. He wants to upgrade and possibly put everything into one system if possible, instead of having several systems hooked up to the mixer. He needs 2 people to be able to work at once, and would prefer to be able to have two instances of Audition open, so both people could be using it. Is that even possible on a single system? So, I am looking for ideas for a system build that would allow him to be able to consolidate (IF POSSIBLE) into a single machine, and also to do what he does now, with better efficacy and speed, Any recommendations?

Hey peeps. So I got quite a few things I need help with. My fiancé and I are about to start a gaming YouTube channel, but both of us have difficulty learning several things all at once by Googling dozens of websites that all only partially answer the question, and also have hard times wording things, hence why this is going to be rather awkward. Watched this, and I didn't get anything out of it. Hoping someone can walk me step-by-step in layman's terms. I have a very poor attention span due to several disorders, so I can't just watch an hour-long video answering these all. I know this seems silly, and I know I could probably get these all answered with Googling, but for reasons I can't really explain, it would be a lot easier for my brain if I had control over what I was told to do. Right now, I have a Blue Yeti Pro, and a Razer Ripsaw capture card that I have no clue how to use yet. 1.) What exactly does XLR as opposed to just using USB? (Why is the quality better?) 2.) How do I use the XLR option on my microphone? I get that I have to buy an audio interface, but that's about all I got out of that video. 3.) What are some good audio interfaces for various budget ranges? 4.) How do I record said audio? 5.) Do I have to use two separate programs/hardware devices to record gameplay and audio, or can I use one thing that does both? Would it be easier for me, in the end, to record them separately or together? 6.) If they do have to be recorded separately, how do I combine both after editing to upload to YouTube? 7.) If any of you have compared several audio and/or video recording softwares personally, can I please get a pro/con list or opinions of them? 8) Is an audio interface the same as a mixer? If not, what is a mixer? 9.) What are some good mixers for various budget ranges? 10.) How do I connect capture card, microphone, audio interface, mixer, etc., all together, then to my PC and capture it all, if it's not obvious? 11.) After all that, how do I add facecam into the mix? Is it just a matter of bringing OBS into the pile and recording my camera from there? Thank you so kindly in advance for helping me with my ridiculous levels of ignorance.

I'm planning to buy either a XLR to 3.5mm Cable or a XLR to USB Cable. My budget is around $10. I don't have any budgets for decent Sound Card or USB Sound Card. So i have to pick either one of these cables for recording gameplays. The Sabrent and Syba USB Sound card cost around $20-$30 in my country which is overpriced compared to everyone else buying the same thing for around $5-10. My microphone is a Karavision Dynamic microphone which doesn't need any phantom power to work. Any Suggestions???

Hi folks, I am currently looking for a new microphone as my headset died on me last week. I still have a spare pair of ath-m40x lying around so the only thing i need is a good mic setup. My budget is around 150 dollars and it should include : the microphone, shock mount, boom arm and popfilter. (maybe an audio interface if needed). I looked into the auna mic-900b or the blue snowball. The mic will be needed for calls and some voice recording in the future. Can anyone give me some recommendations? Kind regards

At the moment I am looking to purchase a pair of DT 990 250 Ohm headphones, an Audio-Technica AT2020 microphone and a metal box (Audio Interface) to power both the XLR phantom power and headphones I plan on purchasing. What I Need Help With 1. What audio interface would you recommend under €50? 2. What cables do I need which don't come with the Mic or Audio Interface? Any additional XLR cables? 3. What boom arm would you recommend for the AT2020 for my desk? N.B. Audio Interface needs to support both 48V Phantom Power for the AT2020 and power the DT990's. Thanks in advance for any help!

My current mic is broken, (too much static and its super quiet even with maximum gain) and I have a budget of 150-200 USD, what is my best option for a microphone? The AT2020 looks compelling but I don't think I have a budget for an XLR setup. I plan to use the microphone for streaming aswell, so is there any way to remove background noise (family talking, MX Blue switches, etc.) or is it just not possible? Thanks for any advice you can offer.

So I currently have a focusrite scarlet 2i2 with a audio technica at2020 plugged into it. Until recently I have had interest in finally getting a keyboard for recording. The electric keyboard I have now(piano kind not typing ) is old and was looking for a new one so I found this as an good enough entry level one the novation and was wondering how i would go about connecting this for recording. Would I need a midi interface? or would the usb b port on it connect into my pc just fine.

Hello, Fellow Techies, I am in desperate need of help and I actually have a $20 Bounty on the Table for the first person to give me an actual work Solution for my Ongoing Problem... I use my Condensor XLR Microphone through a Focusrite 6i6 USB Audio Interface which is connected to my Windows 10 PC w/ an Intel 7700k CPU, GTX 1070 GPU, and 16 Ram, which has my ELGATO HD60s Capture Card connected to it which is also coming from my PlayStation 4. When I am recording live audio or Voiceovers for my Videos and Streams I am A OK.. The problem comes about when I am playing online on my PS4 in a Party with friends like when we do our PS_Lovers Community Game Nights and we are in PS4 Party Chat. I should be able to also record my friend's voices as well as mine using the ELGATO CAPTURE LINK Cable that I purchased extra but I have yet to be able to figure out the correct combination of connections and settings and programs to use to correctly get all of this to work. Like I said i have a $20 PSN Card up for grabs for the Person who is able to help me record Party Chat using all of the components mentioned like I am supposed to be able to. If I used a USB Microphone like a Blue Yeti or Snowball then I wouldn't have this problem, I have seen videos how to set something like that up but because I am using a USB Audio Interface I am not able to get this all to work so i can also record my Party Chat which is very important to me for my future videos.. Please Help Linus Tech Tips Community... p.s. Yes I have already Google Searched this and watched many YouTube videos and still no luck..
