Hey LTT community, my Mainboard (ASUS x399 Zenith Extreme) gives me the following error when booting (see picture). The system even keeps me from entering the BIOS at all, probably as a safety measure. I tried downgrading the BIOS with ASUS's USB BIOS Flash. The CMOS was also cleared (multiple times). Disconnecting components didn't fix the issue either. The system is watercooled, the cooling hardware is made by EK Waterblocks. I'm using a D5 pump&res combo. I also asked ASUS Support for help, no luck there. After the hardware is 3 years old, they basically tell you to buy a new one... Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Hey guys so I just paid for a Thread-ripper 1920x for my new gaming rig / server. this will be my interim gaming PC while I wait to get the rest of the parts for the actual gaming PC. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the 1920x or first gen thread-ripper in general. I have heard about reliability claims but for a price tag of $150 USD I couldn't say no.

So after a long email chain with ASUS there appears to be no intention to implement resizable bar on any of their X399 (1st/2nd Gen Threadripper) motherboards. Does anyone know if a beta bios every appeared, I know other vendors provided a bios to enable this feature so I know it does work on the X399 platform.

Asrock motherboards listing are making its way around the web, confirming so far there are 4 Intel X299 motherboards and 1 AMD X399 motherboard. The listing has been taken down, but some have managed to save it before that happened. And here they are Intel X299 AMD X399 Asrock is also in the process of making ITX Ryzen motherboards! Dear Folks, I am just wondering, if LTT can put together this system and will it work ? AMD RYZEN 1920X Thread ripper X399 Motherboard (Some years later with Intel Thunderbolt 3 Add-on card support) AIO CPU Water cooler Quad Channel DDR4 3200 MHZ RAM macOS HIgh Seirra/Sierra(?) 2xAMD RX VEGA 64 CU GPU in Crossfire I have been windows user for a long time of my career, starting from Tech support. There are lot of You tubers swearing their life for Final Cut Pro X in mac OS. So kept me wondering why we cannot put this system together get best of all worlds ? 1. Can we pull this off ? 2. What kind of score we will get in Bruce 5K tests ? 3. Can we beat iMac Pro Line up ?

To make this a Bootable RAID you will need a UEFI with the support and drives for windows. It will support up to 10 drives in RAID with RAID versions 1,0,10 sadly 5 is not supported. In Der8auers video (That I hope comes back soon) shows a near perfect scaling of 8 960 Pro drives, with it hitting just over 27 GB/s reads. And remember this is a free feature. http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/NVMe-RAID-Support-for-the-AMD-Ryzen-Threadripper-platform.aspx https://www.anandtech.com/show/11892/amd-launches-nvme-raid-support-for-ryzen-threadripper-platform @done12many2 now that its official, yes it is bootable, you need a BIO update and a windows driver. supports up to 10 drives which is nice. It seems this update my break old raid setups though. here is Der8auers video a the last topic about the video. EDIT: Here is PCPer test of X299 VROC and X270 RST, PCPer is testing X399 as we speak. In sort they got 13.2~GB/s off of 4 960Pros when X399 got 27+GB/s on 8 drives (theoretical 13.5 with 4) X299 can only do 4 drives in a bootable RAID vs 10 on X399 https://www.pcper.com/reviews/Storage/Intel-VROC-Tested-X299-VROC-vs-Z270-RST-Quad-Optane-vs-Quad-960-PRO

Hello there everyone, it's my first post on the forums, after a few years of lurking. So I have built myself this PC for C4D work, Photoshop, video editing and occasional gaming: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X @ 3.8 GHz, 1.1825v ASRock X399 Taichi Corsair Vengeance LED DDR4, 2x16GB, 3000MHz, CL15, White (CMU32GX4M2C3000C15) NZXT Kraken X62, radiator on top, exhaust fans on the bottom NZXT H440 rev. 1 White Inno3D GTX 1080 iChiLL X3 (open-air style) 1x M.2 NVMe SSD (250GB Samsung 960 Evo), 2x SATA 6G SSDs, 2x SATA 6G HDDs Corsair RM850i PSU I've been having many thermal problems with this build. Is the Kraken X62 really not enough? The CPU idles out at about 42 *C and in load it runs at a staggering 74 *C (C4D rendering and AIDA64 stress test, both for about 1h, it does top out at 74), which I'm not comfortable with, as its 6 degrees over what AMD suggests. My ambient temp is usually 24-25 *C. Liquid temp. reported by the CAM software is 44-45 *C. I'll be glad as long as it meets the 68 *C limit and reaches 3000+ points in Cinebench, but it doesn't look like it'll happen. Onto the clocks. It's currently set at 3.8 GHz with a nice voltage of 1.1825 v on the vcore. Now I understand that the H440 is a bad case for airflow, and that the X62's coldplate is not designed for the size of a TR4 CPU, but should it be this bad? Steve from GN tested the X62 with the 1950X and the temps were surprisingly good, you can see the article here: LINK. The radiator is on the top and its fans are set to exahust. I also have 3 120mm intake fans in the front and 1 140mm on the back. Thermal compound is Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut. So, about the RAM issue - first of all, my RAM is not on the QVL for my motherboard, but the XMP profile is read and applied correctly, so I thought this shouldn't be an problem. Funny thing is - the faster the memory frequency, the hotter the 1950X gets. But ALSO - the whole system behaves slightly laggy when the RAM is at a lower MHz, especially when memory is being heavily used. A BIOS update largely fixed this issue, but, for example, when a YouTube video starts to play, it seriously stutters and lags for a couple of seconds. Currently, I've found that the ad hoc sweet spot is at 2800 MHz. The RAM runs at 1.35 v, but downvolting it doesn't seem to impact my CPU temps. It runs in dual channel mode. What do you suggest me do? Stick to stock speeds, or even downclock the CPU? Try re-seating the CPU and reapplying the thermal paste? Reposition the radiator, turn it upside down, flip the fans the other way? Or maybe I should sell my current RAM kit, or sell my Kraken X62 in order to get something else, like the Enermax Liqtech TR4 360 (or even a custom loop), if I want decent temps in a H440? Taking off all panels and opening the window definitely helps to bring the temps down by a couple degrees, but what's the point of having an ugly, loud PC and a perpetually runny nose?

Hey everyone, today i tried to build my first machine, but i'm having some troubles. I'm using the AsRock x399 fatality gaming mobo, thread ripper 1950x, corsair ax1200i zotac 1080 amp! extreme gskill tridentZ 3600 ddr4 (4x8GB) Noctua u14S TR4 with push pull I have the ram set in the a2,b2,c2,d2. the cpu is (hopefully) installed correctly (was quite the struggle with the three screws as other have as well).Cooler and both fans installed and connected to the mobo as well. the GPU is in the 4th PCIe slot (16x) and connected with the 2x8 pin connectors. the mobo is connected via the 24pin, the 8 pin and an 4 pin. when the power supply is turned on - the system lights up. when turning the system on - the fans run - dr.mos Runs through all the dials - beyond 99 and then powers off again. at first i thought it showed some error so i tried to remove the m2 sad, cpu etc. and presse the little "reset CMOS switch" since some error codes said "remove memory- install memory - reset CMOS". so i thought this with does that. wrong? Now its running beyond the 99 again and then its showing me "C0" and rebooting after a while. Any ideas what the problem might be? i'm a bit overstrained with this ... Thank a ton - Alex

if intel's skylake-x and kabylake-x are on the x299 chipset, and and amd's treadripper is on the x399 chipset, so what will be after the x299 chipset from intel? (high end desktop processor chipsets not mainstream)

Update 2017-10-01: It seems that using BIOS version F3d and putting the memory interleaving into Channel mode in the BIOS seems to have made the system stable. If I get any more information, I'll update the thread. Update 2017-09-19: Swapping out my 980Ti for a Quadro K1200 allows me to see all of the memory in the BIOS with version F3d. Completely disabling the built-in WiFi adapter in Windows allows me to boot and be stable with 128GB of memory. It also shows the full 128GB of memory available in the System Control Panel. Attempting to boot the nightly Ubuntu install throws constant PCI Express errors about the WiFi adapter. Update five minutes later: Well, so much for that. Other processes are throwing memory access errors, just not immediately upon boot. Original Post: There is a thread about this on the Gigabyte Support Forums (http://forum.gigabyte.us/thread/1854/x399-gaming-128gb-ram-issue). Essentially it seems that there is a serious issue with populating all of the DIMM slots with 16GB DIMMs of any configuration. Windows 10 reports that I have 128GB of memory, but that only 95.9GB is usable. It's super buggy with all of the RAM installed, rendering Windows unusable. I filled a ticket with Gigabyte and I'll update the thread as I get more information. If you are planning on running a Threadripper with 128GB of memory, you're going to want to steer clear of the AORUS Gaming 7 for the time being. Although I'm using the F2 BIOS in the pic, it's also true of the latest F3d BIOS.

https://www.anandtech.com/show/11847/gigabyte-announces-x399-designare-ex The feature set of this board will definitely stand out, especially considering the low amount of x399 boards available. Some might also be delighted by the lack of RGB.

Hello everyone, this is my first post here but I've been following Linus on Youtube for several years! I decided to post as I've been doing a threadripper build and finally have my EK CPU block (though I have had to order a new fitting) Components Case: Aerocool P7-C1 CPU: Threadripper 1950X Motherboard: Gigabyte Aorus Gaming 7 X399 RAM: 32gb G.Skill Trident Z 3466mhz GPU: 980Ti (from my existing build) PSU: EVGA G2 750W (from my existing build) Storage: 500GB Samsung 960 Evo nvme M.2 + 1TB Crucial MX300 SATA M.2 Aestheitcs I'm going for a black/white build with green lighting/accents. Here's a few shots of an empty case with just radiators and fans installed: You might notice there's a radiator on the rear. That's not really for performance, but to hide the rear IO wires when the PC is sat on my desk: I've also been doing some youtube videos documenting my progress: I should have the next video up today where I drill holes and build the watercooling setup

Hey everyone, this might be a stupid question - but im new to the self build pc world. I'm wondering if it is possible to use this PSU: Corsair AX860i with this Motherboard: AsRock Fatal1ty X399 Professional Gaming. The Motherboard needs two CPU Connectors which the PSU has. But it needs one 8 pin and one 4 pin. No idea why this only has 1x8 and 1x4 ... other x399 need 2x8... and i don't really understand the labeling on the PSU. What are the connectors for the cpu? Help would be much appreciated! - Alex

Im doing a new build (my first one) and I wasn't able to put the aio radiator where I wanted as the motherboard heat sink blocked the screws on the radiator. So the only place I could fit it was further away from the motherboard, and I wanted to check that is ok or is it not efficient? the relevant parts are: - Case - NZXT Source 530 - Motherboard - MSI X399 - CPU - AMD 1950x (threadripper) - AIO Cooler - Cooler Master MasterLiquid 240 ive attached a photo to show where I ended up putting the cooler. It is on the top of the case near the front. Is this going to be ok? Or do I need to get a bigger case? Or could I swap out the mobo heat sink for a smaller one so I could fit the radiator in?

Hi, I've been been working in the field of Machine Learning for over 7 years now and have been recently handed over a significant chunk of funding to aid my adventures. I require a work horse machine capable of handling immense work loads with lots of computing. i value the suggestion of the LTT community and would like to put my plan forward for your review and criticism. my max budget is about 7K$ ( is flexible) and I've come up with a PC part picker list. i of course will have to find a source to buy/ ship it to India my base of operations. unfortunately it's coming 1k over budget and i would your suggestions in come cost cutting. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/xLLDPs here is the list. the mains here lots of RAM, beefy GPU and enough cores to last a long time with 24x7 operation handling hundreds of gigabytes of workload.

Hey LTT Forum! Just curious to see what everyone thinks about this. Is now a good time to build a new PC? With all the new motherboards shown at Computex and the announcement of Intel's new (overpriced) CPU's, and hopefully some information on AMD's Threadripper coming soon. It's a difficult decision. Is any of this worth waiting for? Or at the very least, let all of this launch and grab today's current products once they drop in price? I personally have been saving for my new build for awhile now but with all the drama from intel and the general disappointed response by some of our favorite youtubers / reviewers. I'm not certain if I should go for my build right now, or actually consider waiting for the holiday season to see what comes of all these launches and announcements. Let me know what you all think!
