I'm building a virtualized system. I'm stuck finding out that the Intel ark lists the 5960x has a max memory of 64gb . But I need 128gb . I have read about people who have run 128gb with the 5960x. Can you please tell me if it'll run on the Asus x99 WS board

Hi guys, I'm considering the X99-E WS board for my audio rig. Main reason is I would like the PCI slots for expandability with Pro Tools HDX, Thunderbolt and a nice GPU for some downtime gaming. When looking at the ThunderboltEX cards that Asus offers, it seems as though the card needs to be installed in Slot 2 on the WS boards (the standard WS and the USB 3.1 version). Can you think of any reason for this? Provided that it's plugged into the thunderbolt header on the motherboard, would it not work in any slot (like it appears to on all the other thunderbolt capable Asus boards)? If it is the case that I can't plug it into any other slot but slot 2, am I correct in thinking that most GPUs will need to be installed in slot 3 or lower, as installing the GPU in slot 1 would block slot 2? Hope this makes sense! Thanks!

Asus new motherboard for the professional/enthusiast, and those with very deep pockets. So what does this board bring? Dual socket 3647 for Intel Xeon Scalable processors with Xeon overclock tuning 12 ram slots DDR4 up to 2666MHz 768GB max ECC in Hexa Channel 7 PCIe x16 slots, with 3 of them running at x16. 2 of them running at single x16 or dual x8, and 2 of them running at x8 10 SATA ports, 4 U.2 ports, and 1 M.2 port that will work with both SATA and PCIe M.2 SSD Supports 4-way Nvidia SLI and AMD CrossFire X. This depends on the graphic card that you get cause not all of them will work a 4-way setup. For power it needs a single 24 with dual 8. There is a EATX 6 pin 12v around the U.2, probably for extra power to the PCIe x16 slots. Note that, this is not the same 6 pin for your graphic card. 7+1 phase for CPU and 2 phase for DRAM Other parts are the 9 fan headers including those for the CPUs, internal usb 3.0, TPM, COM port, Q-Code LED, Power and Reset LED switches, Intel VROC Hardware Key, and VGA header. Yes this board has a VGA internal header on the board, power by a Aspeed AST2500 with 64MB of VRAM. On the back, you get your USB 3.1 Gen 1 and Gen 2, including Type C, PS/2 combo port, Audio jacks, dual gigabit lan, and a USB Bios Flash Back button Uses the EEB form factor, that's 12 inch x 13 inch ( 30.5cm x 33.0cm ) One unique component on the board is located above the CMOS battery. That could be a MicroSD or SIM card slot. Asus did not provide any info on that. https://www.asus.com/Commercial-Servers-Workstations/WS-C621E-SAGE/overview/

Hi, Quick summary: My Asus Z97 WS system was powering on but not outputting to the monitor while giving postcode "0000". Now, it doesn't even power on. Details: My PC was functioning perfectly fine into the early hours of the morning. I went to sleep, got up about 10 hours later, and my PC wouldn't turn on. The motherboard power and reset switch lights were off (they're always on when the PSU is flipped on) and no amount of flipping the PSU switch off/on could get them back. I disassembled the PC and ran it first with only the PSU, CPU, and RAM. It booted up and posted normally. After that, I added my video card (GTX 780) and boot drive (samsung 840 Pro SSD), and it was still functioning fine. I couldn't figure out why the same setup was working completely fine out of the case. I re-assembled everything in the case, and went to boot up. There was no output to the display, and I was getting a post code "0000". I turned it off and back on again about three times (hoping maybe blind luck would save me here), and on my 4th attempt the PC refused to power up at all. The motherboard lights are on, but no case fans or GPU fans spin. I have no idea what it could be. I have some older components I could probably use to make a test station out of and test components one by one again if you need any such information to suggest a solution. Any help is greatly appreciated Thanks

Hello! I'm going to keep this short, if someone could provide insight that would be great. I have a ASUS WS PRO x570-Ace and G.Skill Trident Z CL16 3466mhz ram (Single) 64GB ram, running a Ryzen 9 3900x A handfull of times the sytem would run 3466mhz cl16, then just refuse to boot with it and resort to 2100 standard. The XMP settings doesn't work (3466) Manual setting the XMP settings does not work (3466) Dram Calculator full manual settings (including voltage, bus clock, cpu et) does not work. (3466) XMP sttings done manuall works to 3200mhz with cl22. Dram calculator full manual brings me 3200mhz cl 16 with decent timings. Either the startup fails 3 times goes into safe mode, or completely black screen. BSOD once when only voltage was bumped to 1.4v on the XMP settings. Ram-tests shows modules works as intended. Question: is there a compability issue with my ram sticks and the motherboard= is there a chance that they are not working correctly? They are single and not dual. Is this a problem populating all ram slots? Is there settings I'm for sure is missing in the bios Why won't the System / CPU / MB accept anything above 3200mhz? If anyone has ANY insight on this. Maybe you have the board yourselve? Please help a fellow out.

so i bought a wd green 240 gb ssd 22/11/2019 and its going great except the fact its dying i think i just want to point out that 2 weeks ago it was at 55% is it becuase i reinstalled windows like 4 times since i bought it because of problems with windows and some games too

Current laptop is totally dying right now. So I needed a replacement and I decided to go the build your own route. First time working with computer parts so tell me if I'm off base here somewhere. Following the format in the instruction thread. 1. Budget & Location Alright so... Budget... I have already pretty much spent 1500 on this rig after taxes and shipping and everything else was factored in.... My wallet is kind of too devastated for me to dwell on it now but needless to say I didnt know about this forum before buying the parts. I'm hoping by listing all of them out I can get a solid confirmation on whether this build will be decent for what I am aiming for.... Location... US. my house can get some pretty sharp temperature swings in the winter due to lack of central heating. Should this be a concern? 2. Aim Okay so honestly? I'm wanting a workstation. As the title suggests. My main focus is my work. I'm going to be: Modeling concepts in maya and blender as well as character sculpting in zbrush and sculptris. I'm going to be working on my digital art in: Photoshop Illustrator Paint Tool Sai Krita I'll also be 2D animating with the help of: Photoshop Premiere Pro After Effects (yes it will take me a while to afford all this software. for now I do have an old copy of cs3 I last used in school for photoshop and illustrator so I should be fine there.... same for an old copy of autodesk maya 2012 student edition.... but I'm going to be upgrading to the newest versions.... just need the time and $$ thankfully there are some free alternatives mixed in there) Content I plan on creating consistently every day would be digital paintings. Ones where I could actually be more detailed and involved without fear of my system crashing. I plan on regularly running this machine about 3-7 hours a day. At least twice a week I will be doing some modeling or sculpting... about twice a week I will also be streaming myself drawing so I can chat with my long distance friends I dont get to see often. I'm going to be doing a painting everyday to get caught up on my dying personal projects. Additionally I plan on using OBS frequently not just for streaming with friends but also so I can record myself painting for use of process gifs and speed paint videos that will be saved and edited locally. And yes. I also plan on gaming. Though there aren't a lot of newer titles I'm interested in. I would normally be playing things like old 90's emulated games like Oddworld.... things like the Fallout series which spans old to new... relaxing games like Stardew and Harvest Moon and Banner Saga... a few newer series and newer installments of games like Dragon Age and Mass Effect and Elder Scrolls... and I cant lie I just really really wanna play Overwatch too. What I'm getting at here is YEAH I wanna game BUT I'm not looking for insane graphics performance for games 80% of the time because most of the titles I enjoy were made before 2007 so there is just no need, And its not even the main purpose of this rig because honestly I'm not going to have much time for games between my day job and the projects i actually want to work on. With All That Said Here Is A Link To My Build On PCPartPicker ----> http://pcpartpicker.com/user/LoofieBuilder/saved/2T8hP6 <---- . 3. Monitors For now I plan on using 2 older monitors... Some samsungs I got from a friend who bought them in like? possibly 2009. Not sure. Not the best but decent for the immediate future and I cannot complain. I do plan on upgrading later tho to a newer dual screen set up but again $$$$$$$ is a problem for now seeing as I need food and a roof over my head. I'm not really savy on which brand would be best for clarity while doing digital painting so if any of y'all have some recs or tips send em to me! 4. Peripherals Covered on windows. I'll be using windows 7 as I'm not the biggest fan of 8 and 10 isn't stable enough yet for my liking. I already have 2 monoprice 10x6 tablets purchased in 2014. Still in decent condition for 50 buck a piece. ( A steal?!?!?) Mainly planned for back up in case my bamboo create craps out because their specs are literally comparable. (OMG) I have splurged on a copy of a mouse I have already owned before and really like from logitech. The model is the M series number 705. It fits well in my hand and has a god satisfying feel to the clicks. Idk i just like it. Plus battery life is killer. Don't need speakers as I'm looking to stay quiet but I am in the market for a good pair of cans. My last pair has suffered 4 years of heavy use. Might actually get a higher quality set just for keeping at the station and then another cheaper set for on the go. 5. Why are you upgrading? Bottom line here is my ancient 2008 asus is on it's last legs after nearly 10 years of constant use i guess.... so I'm desperate for a pc. Already bought the parts cause I need them like... yesterday. I have a deadline to meet for a Zine for charity I signed up to produce art for so its like basically clinch time. Also I just am so tired of not being able to work on my art every day. Hate my day job it's so depressing so not having some kind of a creative outlet is a real struggle tbh. Plus it's just TIME. It's just time. It's time. It's been 10 years about. I have been very frugal. I deserve an upgrade I think. Why not now right? SO THAT IS MY BUILD AND BACKGROUND ON MY NEEDS! THANKS FOR READING! Does anyone have any suggestions for tweaks or advice they could give? Do y'all think this is going to be a good reliable build for my needs?????

So this issue has been bothering me and getting on my nerves for the past couple of weeks. Last night I decided to switch back to my WS MB only to encounter the same issue I had before when I got my open box 980Ti. (I now have a new BNIB 980Ti) With the MB PCI-E layout there is no way in hell you can use the first gold PCI-E slot. So you have to use the second one. Couple of reason why is first my air cooler blocks part of the slot and the second reason why is that the 980Ti backplate is too tall and it rubs against the 5.1 audio and the bottom memory slots. Now the issue is when you are using the 980Ti in that second slot the MB would give out a VGA_ERROR led depending on the situation, if you go into the bios and change something and restart it would happen or if you do boot into Windows and uninstall something that requires a restart it would happen.. But when I had my R9 390 I never once got the VGA_ERROR LED or any issues at all. So what do you guys think? Let me know! Thanks!

I need a Pc build that is Optimal and reasonable and not just an Ultimate build. I want a performance beast for the following applications Sketchup, Autocad, Revit, 3Dsmax, Photoshop and moderate gaming League Nba2k Fifa Sky is the limit for the build, but I want things to be optimal My handpicked components Titan X or GTX 980Ti SLI, can't decide if 12gb of vram is more suitable for my build Kraken x61 Cpu cooler I recently posted a similar article, and I thought it was pretty overkill and unreasonable so I want to know your suggestons! Thanks!

Hi there, I'm building a workstation PC based around the Asus Z10PE-D16 WS motherboard which is of the SSI EEB form factor. I've got all the components figured out but this system needs a home. The problem is that SSI EEB is roughly the same size as a E-ATX motherboard but the layout for motherboard stand-offs is different.Finding a large case isn't difficult but finding one that has official support for SSI EEB is difficult. There is some server-cases but they are ugly as hell and very bulky. I would prefer a consumer desktop case. So, have anyone had any experiences with motherboards of this form-factor and what cases that will support the mounting layout? Your help is much appreciated! DemcoX99X

Hey, I recently watched one of Linus' videos whereby he used an Asus X99 Deluxe motherboard. I've always thought the Asus X99 E WS looks gorgeous, although I was wondering, what do you actually look for in a motherboard? I understand the X99 chipset, that's one of the reasons I was intrigued-I also thought it was one of the best looking motherboards out there IMO. I suppose my two questions would be: 1. What's the difference between X99 Deluxe & X99 E WS? 2. What is it you actually look for in a motherboard? Thanks for any help, thought I'd join the community and see what it's like. Any info about motherboards that a 'noob' should know would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all. B)

Hey all, so EK waterblocks is currently in the "decision" process, as to whether or not they will make waterblocks for the ASUS X99 Workstation board. I for one intend to use this board for my own build this summer. There is currently a "vote" type thing on EK's website, if you plan on using this board for your upcoming build orrrr you just want to show support for the idea please go to this website and give it the thumbs up! Thank you very much! http://thinkcell.ekwb.com/idea/waterblocks-for-asus039s-x99-e-ws-motherboard

One more Asus WS socket 2011-3 board, this time with remote management

I study film- and tv-production, so I always work with video, graphics and all that good stuff. At the moment I have an older gaming rig I use for all my video editing. Some other editing get's done on my Sony Vaio 13". However, it's time to upgrade. I can't go all out on this build, but I want a decent upgrade for what I already have. I will not be upgrading the build I have (P8Z68, i5-2500k, 16GB RAM, 570) , but I'm going to use the old build as a dedicated gaming rig, and the new rig as a workstation. Reason for this is that the Z68 is getting old, and if I'm gonna invest in a new MB, CPU and so on I might as well build a whole new rig. Besides, I miss building. The 570 I have will go into the new build, and a new 670 will go into my old gaming rig for an upgrade in gaming performance. Components: - Fractal Design Refine R4 - Asus P9X79 Pro - Intel i7-3820 - Corsair H100i - 32GB RAM (alternatives include HyperX Black and Dominator Platnium) - Samsung 840 Pro 256GB - Harddrives (WD Blacks or Barracudas) - Asus GTX 570 2GB (from my old gaming rig) - Corsair HX 750W - Filco Tenkeyless MX Blue Switch - Optical drive, external SATA-dock, USB 3.0 card reader etc. I am worried that the H100i won't fit in the R4, but I've seen some videos and pictures of rigs that rock the setup. So I guess it'll be ok. I really want the R4 since it looks awesome and it's quiet. What I'm debating about is the motherboard. The WS-version of the board is marketed towards workstation builds, but I feel like I don't need the features that cost extra. The Pro looks to me like the perfect board with good overclocking capabilities and overall rock-solid-performance. What do you think? Overall I think this could be a good setup. If I had the money I'd get the i7-3930k. Six-cores would be epic. But I mostly work with 1080p footage from DSLR's so I don't think I'll notice much in improved editing speed and performance. Anyone have thoughts on investing in the 2011 socket? RAM is another thing that's impossible to decide on. The HyperX Black CL10 is much cheaper than most of the CL9-RAM in stores here in Norway. At the same time I've heard good things about G.skill, and the Patriots I have in my current build have worked flawlessly. Right now I'm at two WD Blacks 1TB, and one bigger storage drive. I don't know how much better the Blacks are compared to Barracudas, that are way cheaper. Please chime in on that I you have any experience with that. A RAID setup might come in the future. As for cooling I'm thinking of sticking with the stock H100i-fans for now, place a AF140 in the rear, and move the stock fan from the R4 to the front. Two front fans pull air in, H100i and AF140 as exhaust. Give me feedback on what you think about my planned build! The build is due to be in june sometime. Plenty of time to order parts and change the build. PS: if anyone know of a good kinda not-so expensive monitor that display colors better than my current BenQ G2420HD, please let me know.

Let's say I have a hypothetical PC build with all the best and most high-end parts (PSU, MOBO, RAM, CPU etc.) and that I want to use said PC both for Workstation purposes (applications such as Maya, After Effects etc.), so I buy myself a Quadro of some sort, BUT I also want to play games at highest graphics, resolutions and FPS, so I buy myself a 780Ti or Titan or whatever (again all of this is hypothetical). Is there any way to (in layman's terms) have my computer run all its graphical processing through the Workstation GPU whenever I want, and then switch my GPU preference to the Titan for gaming "on the fly" (without having to touch the hardware to physically switch them)?

Hello all, Would I encounter any issues with removing, then painting the heatsinks on the Asus z97-WS board? I was planning to just use spray paint. Thanks all

Hello all, I'm having a few issues with my EVGA 780 Classifieds. So I got a new motherboard (Asus Z97 WS), and got it up and running. I then installed all of the drivers for the motherboard. I shut down I installed my second GPU, and BAM now I get no display on start up. I remove the second GPU, and still no display? It's currently working off of onboard video. Could it be a driver issue? Or any other suggestions? Asus Z97 WS motherboard, EVGA 780 Classified GPU (x2)

Hello all, Welcome to my review of the Asus Z97-WS board. First Thoughts: Awesome board, with all of the needed bells and whistles, and none of the gimmick-ie ones. I'm very happy that it has two Ethernet ports, and two USB 3.0 Internal headers. The color scheme is a bit weird, as I've never seen the appeal of Gold in computers, but some paint will help with that. Installation: This section may be a tad bad, but it's mostly my fault. Upon receiving the board, I did a quick assembly outside of my case. It powered for about 10 seconds, stopped, and reset itself. It did this twice before I turned it off, and double checked all of the connectors. They all seemed fine, so I tried again. It booted flawlessly into a splash screen. Upon seeing this, I was delighted, turned it off, and took the time to take apart my rig enough to switch out the motherboards. (Old: FX 8320, Asus Sabertooth 990fx r2.0) Somewhere in here, I uninstalled the heatsinks, and spray painted them black. Looks great I installed the motherboard in my case, with both graphics cards, all the plugs, and got ready to boot. One, two, three, power button... and nothing. The post code readouts said ddFE, which means absolutely nothing in the motherboard handbook. Terrified that I screwed it up, I checked every cable, and tried a few more times, every time receiving ddFE. I then stripped the motherboard of every connector that wasn't necessary for use. Tried again, and ddFE! GAHH!! At this point, I was tired, it was 3 AM, and I decided it was time to sleep. After a good nights rest, I looked into the responses of my thread on LTT, to find that people were generally not knowing, or unhelpful. I decided just to go look at my motherboard one last time, when something caught my eye. A little bit of gold on my RAM, and a quick check later, verified that my RAM wasn't seated well. Elated that the issue wasn't catastrophic, I reseated the RAM, and optimistically pressed the power button. Boot, Post code LED's flashing numbers faster than I could figure out what they said, and Splash screen! Wooo! Seeing this, I booted down, and reattached my USB headers, SATA cable, and decided to boot again. Button, power, SPARK?... The included Firewire/USB 2.0 thing that comes with the board had a nice fire spark come out of the USB 2 header. Mmmmm... I quickly shut off the machine, unplugged this included thing, and removed it from my case. It might have been a bad connection, but I don't care to risk it, and 2 USB ports aren't worth paying another 300 dollars for a motherboard. And one more time, Button, boot, BIOS, perfect. Everything looks awesome, I got into my OS without having to reinstall my OS (awesome), and I've installed the drivers from ASUS. Overclocking: N/a, coming soon from a reviewer near you. Conclusion: (thus far) I love the board. Every mistake (minus the USB thing... I think), was my fault, but the board took it like a champ, and is purring like a kitten. (Literally purring... Stock CPU cooler.) The board looks great (after modification), and has features that I plan to take all advantage of.

Hello all! I come to you for hopeful help! I just got an Asus Z97 WS board, and am not getting a splash screen. The LED post readout says ddFE, but in the manual, that isn't written anywhere. The LEDs light up as I believe they should, the GPU fans spin, the CPU fans spin... Everything looks right, except that... Please help!
