Hello, I was wondering if there was a way to download mods from the steam workshop as files instead of subscribing to them. Does anyone know if this is possible?
-
So I only have 3 games installed on my SSD. Rust, GTA V, and Arma 3. It says those games take up 132gb of space. On the other hand I have a few games on my HDD (like 3 or 4 right now). My steam workshop folder is taking up 50gbs of space and I'm not sure why. Does anyone have any idea? I don't know how the workshop works.
-
How do I move the steam workshop folder to my other drive?
Cantaloupeman posted a topic in PC Gaming
So my steam workshop takes up about 50 gigabytes when I want to play Arma 3 exile from those mods alone. I am curious, can I change the location of this folder, and If I do, will it negate the faster load time that my ssd is supposed to give? I'd like to have the game on my SSD for faster loading, and my mods on the 1TB HDD so I can save space on the SSD. -
I don't use Workshop that much, for anything. But now I got Train Valley 2 which just released map editor. I would like to review maps, but only thing I can do (as far as I can see) is give thumbs up or down. Not stars or anything more specific. Same thing whether its added to game or not. I know you can give reviews as some maps have star rating. Is there something I'm missing here? Like do I need to have some status in Steam to be able to give reviews? The game itself is in Early Access. First game is on sale, if you like to check it out. 1 and 2 are really different in gamestyle and graphics. Main idea remains. Its puzzle game with trains.

Hey, anyone willing to help, would be greatly appreciated. I seem to be either overthinking or misunderstanding the results in a recent test done by Luke in 'The Workshop' series. I spent a good 2 hours looking in-depth into Hyperthreading, which was very interesting. But in the process, I seemed to have fried my brain. By that I mean I don't understand the results on the 7-Zip Benchmark... Why are the two VM's running simultaneously, getting way over half the score of one? (30% at least) I don't understand the scaling. Are the two VM's running at the same time forcing the CPU to utilize more resources and therefore yielding a better result? (in-ratio) For instance @ 4:29, that could represent the default 7-Zip benchmark running on one VM. And @ 4:32 could represent both VM's running simultaneously. This is probably blindingly obvious to someone, if so don't be afraid to point out! Cheers

(Hey, if Luke is reading, I guess this would actually make an interesting video for The Workshop...) Well, what do you know, AIDA64 and Prime95 tacke the CPU rather differently. Not susprises at all. I was doing some overclocking one night and did run a few stress passes with Prime95 on my CPU. After that, I got to do some testing with AIDA64 (because it allowed me to do some stress testing of several things at once) and notticed how the temperatures were different between both programs. Prime95 hit my CPU considerably harder than AIDA64, like... Hard. I'm running an AMD FX-8120 dinosaur, at 4.25 GHz, idling at 45 C. Prime95 brought it to around 75 C. and, AIDA64, did "only" reach 68 C. As of now, I only tested those 2 programs. do you have any suggestions on other software that I could use to Stress my CPU? I also did a similar experiment to stress test my GTX 970. And, didn't really nottce much difference first. I wanted to generate as much heat as possible, and hit every transistor inside that poor chip. So, I fired up Furmark, alongside GPU-z stress test, as well as Valley, As well as several test at once from MSI afterburner and EVGA, and AIDA64, and even put Blender to render a complex surface with complex shaders. It was literally a mess. My GPU didn't really throttle, but all of the different workloads caused the GPU to output less heat (probably because some the many workloads were lighter, so the heavier ones would take less GPU clocks per second to be performed)

TL;DR: Workshop video ideas: cheap vs mid vs expensive case - temps/noise (revisit a couple vids that showed "no change no matter what config" with the cheap case) case fan size - temps/noise using a system config with a high-wattage CPU+GPU (preferably 800+W combined, will need to overclock if not using an FX-9590 and R9 390X II), or one that constantly thermal throttles under load on the test bench also passively cooling said system in a Node 202 with vents blocked, or a cheap thin HTPC case run the tests when/where the ambient temp is 45-50°C (minimum 40) So I came across this tweet yesterday evening from @LinusTech - "@Jauffers @luke_lafr @Noctua_at this is actually a really good idea.." in reply to "Hey @luke_lafr @LinusTech you guys should make a "how to clean your case fan without destroying it vid" so my LTT @Noctua_at's last FOREVER!" and it gave me this idea. I was going to tweet it to him but there's no way I'd fit it into 140 chars. My ideas: A video comparing cases at a few different price/quality levels, and one comparing different fan sizes. Maybe it's something @Slick could do? For the cases, I'd suggest: Cheap: $30 or less. Ideas include: Antec VSK-3000, or Apex PC-389-C. If another case is chosen instead, make sure it: has NO room for cable management (not even front-panel connectors - something like this - yes that's a Pentium II - should be the best that's possible with it), no CPU cutout, includes at most a single 80/90/92mm fan, supports at most 3 case fans (only 1 may be a 120/140mm), no side/top vents, preferably uses a top-mounted PSU does NOT fit the 212 Evo (and if possible the Cryorig C1, stock Intel/AMD cooler or Noctua NH-L65 or whatever it's called would be a tight fit) but DOES fit a high-wattage GPU like a 6990 or R9 390X II. Before I go to the next tier, I'd like to see a couple videos - cable management and fan placement - be revisited with the cheap case - basically the ones where Luke got frustrated cause no matter what he did, it didn't change his temps much if at all. I think he used too good of a case (MasterCase 5) for those workshops. Midrange: ~$50-70. Ideas: NZXT Source 210 Elite / 220 Fractal Design Core 1500 Corsair Carbide 100R Silent Cooler Master N300 High-End: ~$100-130. Ideas: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 Rosewill Thor V2 (I have this case) Optional - Enthusiast: ~$180-200. Ideas: Cooler Master HAF X Rosewill Blackhawk-Ultra Optional - Insane: >$300. This might be used to show that paying 3-6+ times as much for a case might not get you all that much better cooling, or whatever you decide to compare. (Maybe the cooling wouldn't be any better, but expandability might be.) Ideas: Cooler Master Cosmos II Corsair Obsidian 900D any Lian Li case (even if it's <$300) Thermaltake Level 10 Titanium, or similarly-priced alternate For the portion where you're comparing the cases to one another, use the stock fan configuration. Then, for comparing fan sizes, pick a single case (like the Thor V2, Haf X/932/912 or similar, etc), and change the fans. You'd be testing thermals and noise, primarily. I'd at minimum suggest 80mm and 120/140mm fans, then any two of 180/200/230mm. (I'd also add 250mm and higher but I'm not sure which current cases support it. I've in the past seen cases with 360mm and larger side fans.) For the system config, I'd suggest something that's high wattage. For example if you can have the CPU and *single* GPU together doing 800+ watts, that'd be great. In stock form, this would be achievable with the FX-9590 and R9 390X2. However, the FX-9590 is only compatible with full-ATX boards, and some of the suggested cases only support micro ATX. As an alternative, I'd suggest a heavily-overclocked LGA2011 CPU and maybe a 6990 if Linus still has one laying around from Austin's SYW3 system. (I suppose a GTX 480 or 580 might work too but they're only 250 watts.) For coolers, use the stock GPU cooler (but no watercooling) and an inexpensive CPU air cooler that's smaller than the 212 Evo, preferably one that uses a fan no larger than 92mm. Regardless of the CPU+GPU wattage, they should be overclocked high enough to be constantly thermal throttling under load on the open-air test bench with the aforementioned coolers. (Kind-of like how my 4790K fairly quickly hits 100°C at 3.7-3.9 GHz in Prime95 28.7 Small FFT in my Thor V2 with a 212 Evo when I haven't cleaned out the dust in a year or more.) Another idea would be taking the above 800+ watt config, putting it into a Node 202, blocking all but 1 fan vent (preferably PSU), and seeing how well you can passively or completely silently cool it. By silence, I mean there should be no audible/measurable noise difference with the system under max load vs. shut down completely. Also mounting the PSU outside the case to make room for bigger heatsinks would be allowed. (Alternately if a cheaper-made similarly-sized case exists that doesn't have as many fans/vents - basically like a thin HTPC version of the "cheap case" suggested earlier, that'd be good.) Also, how about doing the tests in a location where the ambient temperature is at least 40°C, preferably more like 45 or 50°C? Also, where's the "preview post" button?

So where does it save the mods? I found a ram 3500 mod that is awesome but the truck is a featherweight and the interior isn't lining up to the exterior very well.

Today I saw Luke's Work Shop series video and thought of an idea for a possible episode. Not a 100% sure if this would work for the series but still a topic I think would be interesting. As I was recently searching for ways to improve wireless internet through the house I came across WTFast. Even though it has no particular use to me I would still be curios to see whether the subscription based service was truly worth it and does what is claims which is "reduce game ping 30 to 60%, reduce user speed deviation 70 - 90%(I dont even know what this is) and reduce bad router hop 70 - 90%(dont know what this is either)." Since LMG has Gigabit internet to my understanding I believe it would be a solid test bench to truly see if the service does what it claims since there internet connection would not be the issue. Just thought I would share Link: https://www.wtfast.com/

Hopefully this is the right area. I wanted to show off a gamemode I have been working on since 2012 for TF2. I have had the on TF2maps.net and game banana but since Steam has finally added Steam Workshop for maps it has gotten me excited again and to work on it more. Would love to see some input on the gamemode. I used the map CTF_Turbine. Once I have fine tuned the gamemode I have a map idea for this mode. That I have had drawn out since 2011. Valve takes a 30% cut from every game sold so they will probably take the same amount from the 75%. Steam is offering the creators of mods on the steam workshop the ability to sell them. So far this service has only been offered on Skyrim and the game dev has to opt in. Some mods that have been on the nexus and steam workshop in the past are now for sale... however some authors are only leaving older and outdated versions on the nexus/steam workshop. http://steamcommunity.com/workshop/aboutpaidcontent/ Some users are reporting being banned for talking badly regarding this on their discussion pages/fourm. UPDATE: turns out the first paid for mod on the workshop was pulled for using someone elses content... http://www.destructoid.com/the-first-paid-skyrim-mod-has-been-pulled-290924.phtml

First of all, if you don't want these paid mods, please show Valve by signing this petition (there are already 37,058/50,000 votes): https://www.change.org/p/valve-remove-the-paid-content-of-the-steam-workshop UPDATE 2.0 Valve has removed the paid mods. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/356320-skyrim-paid-mods-are-gone/ UPDATE When I try to see the page for any of the paid mods, I get this error page: I am not one to speculate, but I feel very much like they will remove this paid mods stuff. Of course you still have access to the mod if you have bought it If you haven't heard it yet, Valve/Steam made it so that you can make paid mods in the Workshop. They first activated it in Skyrim. See this thread for more info on that: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/354106-steam-workshop-offering-paid-for-mods/ Well today they removed a few mods already.. See this thread for more info on that: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/354220-paid-for-skyrim-mod-removed-in-a-matter-of-hours/ I just got home and browsed the Skyrim Nexus (it's kinda daily thing for me) and saw a few mods that were not that positive about it. Here are some pics and quotes from the description. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/65036/? Kind of a silly mod, didn't bother with a picture because it is just a fork from Skyrim. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/65043/? I remember seeing this mod in the paid mods section too and it even mentions it in the description. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/65021/? I will update this post if any more interesting mods will release (about the paid mods in Steam workshop stuff) More Mods: [...] Obviously referencing the 25% for the modder - 75% to Valve Bethesda etc. split. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/65077/ The NPC is called Beth, referencing Bethesda and she is sitting on a Valve. This is pure gold to me. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/65034/ http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/65071/ http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/65065/? Some pretty interesting stuff. Don't think Valve/Steam will bring back paid mods like this. Personally mods should be free and you should be able to donate. So, what is your opinion on this?

Hi Guys, At HWBOT we've prepared an event series for 2015 and one of the event stops will take place in Montreal, Canada on March 6-8. All these events are social gatherings open to all pc enthusiasts with interest in overclocking / performance tuning. People that join the event with a ticket get access to ln2 for all three days. This might be the occasion to meet others and learn more. Of course, WaterCooling and AirCooling OCers welcome as well. -> If you are a member of the Overclock.net community, check with them as there is a special deal for participants For the most beginners, there will be a workshop hosted on Saturday with access to a contest in which only beginners can compete. If you live nearby, you can simply enter the LAN as a visitor and swing by the OC area. So that's pretty much it. Below an extract from the official event post at HWBOT. Any questions, simply ask. We are looking forward to eventually see some of the LTT community there. Full News Post at HWBOT Tickets available now on Eventbrite (Full discloser: I work for HWBOT / Thanks Linus for the hint on where to share this news)

Hey there all, I've been watching benchmarks on Linus's channel, and noticed that Linus says that for Skyrim, they are using 18 mods from the Workshop. However, try as I might, I can't find the mods they're using or the benchmark procedure. If someone could direct me to a link or a list of the mods used, I'd be very grateful.

Hi guys, So I installed all of the "Towns and Villages Enhanced" series of mods for Skyrim. Including Outskirts and such. They were beautiful, but that much stuff made my game jittery. I assume it is the game trying to keep up with so many objects and failing, or wtv. It even did it in inns. Which... confuses me. PC Specs: R9 290X i5 3570k 32GB of RAM. ... So I doubt it's a hardware problem. Anyway, I uninstalled all the "Detailed/Outskirts" type of mods and everything is fine now. No more jitters. But at the same time, default Skyrim and it's cities are very empty. Now, to my question, does anyone know of a mod that adds more detail to Skyrim, but in a more conservative fashion? Like... "Towns and Villages Enhanced" adds TONS of stuff to everything. I don't need that much. But without it, it's empty. Is there a balanced mod out there? Something that adds stuff but does so with FPS/Memory/Game Engine in mind? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Vitalius

Hi guys! I just made a new skin for the CS:GO Workshop, and it would be awesome if it would get in the game! If you have a Steam account, maybe you could take a look at it and if you like it, it would be great if you would leave a rating! Thanks! http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=269102005&searchtext=
