Hi! So I'm looking to buy a second hand gaming PC, but of course I'm a little worried about paying a large sum of money only to get home and find something broken. Do you have a good go-to method to verify that a second hand computer is working as expected, before you buy it? My first thought is to ask the seller to run a benchmark, but I'm not sure which free benchmark would be the best to test the entire system (CPU, RAM, GPU). Any ideas would be much appreciated! -

Heyy everyone, Here's the deal, I got a Threadripper 3960x coupled with 128G of ram on a Zenith II Extreme with a RTX2080. I'm a software developer and I don't have much patience nor skill on the hardware/configuration side of things but what I wanted for quite some time now was to make install Unraid or Proxmox or something like it on my machine as a base operating system and then run maybe three VM's for different stuff, for example, windows for gaming (not heavy gaming) and a couple of linux VM's for work, like 1 linux for 'home work' and another one for actual company work. I don't think I wanna run more then like... 2 VM's at the same time, but I which I could use the same peripherals and screens for all VM's and just switch between them. Realistically speaking, I guess I don't need graphics card for the linux since I don't play on it, it's just code... but the windows would need since it's... the gaming side With my "idea" explained, here are were my doubt's begin... Since I use 2x 27'' screens on DP and 2x 1070p screens 1 on DP and 1 on HDMI (I was looking into upgrading to 2x 49'' to reduce the number of ports and cables ), to connect all this screens to the machine I need a graphics card that can handle it right? or are there any other ways or tricks to do it? Also, I've researched about Graphics card allocation for VM's and from my understanding I need to allocate the entire Graphics card to a VM and I cannot 'split-it' across multiple VM's, witch would mean I had to buy another Graphics card for the linux VM's I guess... but, then my questions begin, does this mean I have to keep switching physically the monitor cable's between the two graphics cards?????? Also, how would I do the switching of the keyboard between the two VM's ? mouse would be fine since I have the MX Master 3 and it has support for up to 3 different machine easily... So, what I wanted here was... I'm I day dreaming and I simply cannot achieve what I want? or do you guys have some answers and ideas for me? Thanks in advance!

Anyone got any got concentration tips for when they're programming/coding? So far I've narrowed it down to Go to sleep no later than 10:30pm If working on an area you know thoroughly (and don't need to think about), listen to instrumental music If working on a different area you will need more problem solving elements, don't listen to music If people are chatting around you then listening to music may be better however being totally isolated is probably best. Changing up my scenery seems to help. If I'm particularly struggling with a piece of work I'll take my laptop away from my desk to the downstairs main table, it's not got the full tech setup but mentally it helps me. No more than 2 coffees in a 4ish hour period, I may physically be very awake if I have more but I would basically be a zombie mentally after that; I don't know why. If you're really stuck on a problem, try rubber duck debugging where you explain your problem to something, your methodical approach of explaining the problem usually reveals the answer ( I do prefer explaining to real people though) Surround yourself with people who are interested in programming (struggled to program in my spare time when all my friends were artists, guess all I wanted to do was draw! lol ) (If working from home) Have a main area dedicated to working, e.g. If possible don't be gaming in the same room that you do work, have that 'work environment' Don't need that taking up brain space. There's probably some things I could do in terms of dietary changes but I've not really experimented with it Anything in particular work for yous?- 7 replies

Hi, So I did a fresh install of windows 10 but BT is still not working in it. I have a MSI GT60 2PC laptop with Killer-n1202 wifi+bt adapter. I dual boot my laptop with kubuntu 20.04 LTS. The weird thing is in the fresh install of windows the Bluetooth won't work. If I boot into ubuntu the BT works flawlessly without any issues. After using the BT once in ubuntu when I switch back to windows the bluetooth will work in windows as well, until I poweroff the laptop for a significant duration (if I restart the BT will keep working), or the laptop goes to sleep then bluetooth won't work the next time I boot into windows. Will have to switch back to linux for a while to get BT working on windows. Adapter Name: Qualcomm Atheros QCZ 61x4 Bluetooth Driver Provider: Qualcomm Currently Installed Driver Version and date: 10.0.0.967 and 19-08-2020 Feels like windows is unable to wake the BT device up from sleep or something. I recently got my new cpu the I-5 9400f to change it out for my old i3-7100. When I installed the I-5 my computer didn’t want to turn on. I tried to find the problem and after switching out the cpu for my old one again the computer booted up perfectly. I tried going back and forth a few times and nothing has worked. I haven’t found any similar cases online either.

So i ordered this bluetooth dongle for my pc because i wanted to use my ps4 controller wirelessly that was about half a month ago i waited so long for it to come and it did,unfortunately tho it didn't work out of the box it would scan correctly but would keep connecting forever this happened with my own computer and my brother's too, so i did a bit of digging around and found a driver that made it work but it had it's flaws it didn't work natively with windows and you need to have the utility app always open for it to work and it also screws with this pc it adds extra bloat to it, so i was asking here if anyone knew how to extract the .inf driver file from the setup file to make it plug and play with native support for windows, i really don't want to return it and wait forever again for one like my brother's to arrive which does work plus and play. anyhelp is appreciated the bluetooth dongle is a csr 4.0 dongle btw i can't attach the setup file because it's too big but i'll link it https://download.informer.com/win-1192477475-c52463cc-68c9eae5/orico_bluetooth_4.0_adapter_driver_cd.zip -
So, last week I finished setting up my office internet with Spectrum. Currently it is running on an Arris Modem/Router combo, which I know is garbage and I'm planning on replacing it anyway. However, the main problem is the title. Out of the 5 computers connected to the network, my laptop, a Dell Inspiron 15-7577, is the only computer with problems accessing the internet, regardless of being connected through 5G wifi, or ethernet through the phone system. To summarize what is happening is that I can connect to the wifi and have connection for up to 5 minutes at a time, before losing internet access, yet still being connected to the 5G network. Same issue through ethernet, but 5G seems more stable than ethernet, which also doesn't make sense to me. I have tried renewing my ip address (cmd, ipconfig /renew) which didn't help with resolving the problem. I have narrowed the problem down to something with my computer, as the router, while pretty trash, doesn't seem to give the other computers problems. I have included a CMD log that spans some 10-20 minutes ish of me pinging 8.8.8.8 Edit: Just noticed that if I disconnect and reconnect from the wifi after losing internet access, I regain internet access. cmdlog.txt

I have a formatted drive on my laptop, Dell XPS 13 9333, and I want to install windows. However I have tried multiple times and I always get stuck, either on on "Getting devices ready" or just a blank screen. Help is much appreciated as I need this laptop for school.

Hello, I'm having a problem with an HDMI splitter I just bought. The splitter is a CSL 1 in 2 out HDMI splitter. My setup is as follows; I have a PC which sends an HDMI signal to a splitter which then splits the signal to a monitor and an Avermedia Live Gamer Extreme Capture Card which then sends the recorded signal to my laptop. The problem is that if I connect the capture card first to the splitter, the PC recognises the capture card and therefore the sound starts playing... but then nothing shows up on the monitor not even the video. This does not happen if I connect the monitor first but then suddenly I don't have audio passing through my capture card. The monitor only has a DVI port so I had to buy a cheap HDMI to DVI adapter. I'm using an HDMI splitter rather than the HDMI passthrough of the capture card because the quality is much better. Help

Welp here is the story i was walking on the streets of Zürich and seen RoG logo on a laptop in a container i took it and brought it home later that day i managed to turn it on and the screen is working when i took a closer look i noticed that it has intel core Intel® Core™ i7-820QM Processor so i was wandering am i able to salvage it from the laptop or do i have to keep it on laptops motherboard

Hello , I have bought a splitter cable and a USB to audio converter with microphone and speaker but when I plug in the splitter cable to my computer the speakers work not the microphone , when I try fixing it their are sometimes sounds that sound like dialup and high frequency sounds that may give up a headache , and I am using a earphone which supports both microphone and audio but when I look at the splitter cable their is a line missing on the jack . is their any way to fix this? for those who are curious why I have a splitter cable and a USB to headphone and microphone jack because my computer doesn't have a headphone jack .

Because i am only good at building decent gaming pc´s i dont know which parts are good for a working pc. I allready have some of the parts : -1151 AsRock mini ATX Mainboard (dont have the name right now) -Corshair Spec 01 Case -Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo Cpu cooler Im planing to get: -8gb ddr4 / maby ddr3 memory -400watt psu -128ssd + 1tb hdd I choosed to dont buy them a GPU since they only work on it. Thats why i need a CPU with a decent gpu unity in it. Can you recommend any budget 1151 CPUs. The dont do any heavy tasks - the PC should just run smooth and fast. Any other recommendations ?

Hi, today i tried making a vm with windows 98 for a video on my youtube channel. However, when trying to run it, i got an error message telling me Virtualization wasn't enabled. I went to my pc Bios and checked if it was on. It was enabled. I went back to Virtualbox and tried again. So i cloned my hdd from my laptop, and swapped it out with the ssd, cloned using samsung data transfer, however my touchpad doesnt seem to work, and when i swapped back in the old hdd. It worked, so i am gonna copy over the drivers cause i heard that can work, but other wise should i retry the cloning , or maybe use different soft ware ? ,

I just got a razer BlackWidow X chroma a few days ago and i made a lighring profile. Everytime i restart my computer it just goes back to the original wave profile. I have saved/exported the profile and dont know how to enable it. Please help

Every single time I try to install iTunes, I get this error: I googled it and many people said it was as a result of not having the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack so I attempted to install it but it hasn't made any difference. Somebody else said to disable automatic Windows Module Installations but that hasn't worked either. Anybody got a solution? Thanks!

I just added a new motherboard and graphics card to my computer and it refuses to boot. I replaced the Mobo bc the old one had gotten damaged (the pcie slot) and I replaced the graphics card bc it was time for an upgrade from the r9 380. The first time I booted it with all my components everything seemed to be working, all fans were spinning but nothing was showing up on my screen. (Using Display port) My power LED and Motherboard lights were red. My razer chroma devices weren't doing their chroma thing either. I tried removing the GPU and then my system refused to boot or even power on. None of the fans are spinning, and no lights were on. Any help? Hello! I built a new PC over the weekend. I've got it connected via ethernet directly to the router. Last night, I began to have internet problems. When I restart my PC, the internet will work fine for a few minutes. Then, for whatever reason, it decides to not work at all. All of the other devices in the house are connected over wifi and work fine. As this is a new PC and I haven't done anything stupid I don't think I have an infection. I've tried ipconfig /release and /renew with no luck. I'm running (unactivated) Windows 10 Pro and have AVG Internet Security installed for antivirus. Any help is appreciated! If you need more information just ask!

Hey guys i have this computer which has 2 gpus the intel hd 4600 and geforce 825m and geforce refuses to work, gives me a yellow triangle saying it crashed. Now i am not too much of a noob so i alreadyy did fresh windows install tried windows 7,8,8.1,10 all not working with same error clean unninstall and install of the nvidia drivers AND drivers from the laptop manufacturer (laptop is medion akoya p7632) tried downloading other drivers like for geforce 820m and geforce 830m (one above and one below) everything failed, if someone has any idea will be much apricated! here is the exaact error it says in device manager (Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)) thank you for any help guys

Hey guys, So I bought this new USB headset and I can't get sound through it. The headset is the H2100 from Corsair. My previous headset used the audio jack and I never had a problem with it. With this new one it comes up as a playback device https://gyazo.com/bb28e1e97afd1c848a2ce28a6a73a380, but I don't get the popup from my realtek audio manager that I used to, which usually allows me to select what device I'm using and then it works. I think the problem is that my computer is not properly sending the sound through the USB, any replies are appreciated.

Hello there, I'm having issue with my laptop's network adapter, my laptop can't connect to a wifi, even the distance is just several meters from the laptop. This happens about 4 days since this post is made. So I installed a fresh new Windows 10, and it still ended the same. I can only connect to a wireless network when the modem is very, very close to the laptop. I'm using a MiFi for now. Any solutions to this? Specs: Intel Core i5-5200U RAM 8GB Windows 10 Pro 64-bit Version 10.0 Build 10240 Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter Any feedback would be much appreciated!

Alright, I just installed my graphics card (correctly, I hope) and I ran the driver install for it, so I thought I would be ready to start gaming. However, none of my games are starting. All Steam games 'stop working' as soon as I start them, and WoT in particular tells me ít failed to start because 'no appropriate hardware acceleration was available or was turned off'. This is stressful, I don't know what the problem is. Can someone please help me?
