To Long, Didn't Read: I'm having trouble getting a reliable copy of Windows Vista Home Premium. I built a new gaming computer and I had all of my old parts lying around. I wanted to play Fallout 3 and the wiki has an enormous guide to getting it to run with Windows 10, since it was built for Windows XP and Vista. Obviously the sensible, levelheaded thing to do was to use my old machine and one of those old OS's to run that one, single game. I should note that the computer in question uses the following: CPU: Intel Core 17 2600 GPU: EVGA Nvidia Gtx 560 (Yeah, I know it probably can't handle high res graphics mods) RAM: 16GB (4X4GB) Corsair Vengeance DDR3 at 1600MHz (in blue) Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3-iSSD Rev 1.0 My mom actually managed to get a Windows XP installation disk for $10 that seems to let us use it's activation key an indefinite number of times. I'm not sure what exactly the deal with that is, but I assume it either means Microsoft doesn't care about licensing an OS they can't profit from, or it has something to do with the fact that the disk doesn't look like it's for consumer use. It claims it should only be used on Dell systems, despite it working fine with my mom's Apple and my custom machine. All of that is beside the point, I have Windows XP and the game installed and working great. Well, as great as a Bethesda RPG can run... Anyway, here are my issues. I only have access to a 32 bit copy of XP, 64 bit copies exist but only the Professional version, which seems hard to find, the Profession version was only updated to Service Pack 2, and Fallout 3 runs on Service Pack 3. As I said, I do have the game running fine but I'd like the option to mod it with higher resolution graphics and I just don't really like not using all of the resources I have. Windows Vista Home Premium can use my full amount of RAM and let my CPU run at 64 bit but Microsoft obviously doesn't sell it anymore and physical disks on ebay are mostly 32 bit and many look pretty sketchy. I wouldn't mind torrenting an iso file but I don't have any experience with that and I'm nervous about malware. So, could anyone help me find a way to get a working copy of Vista Home Premium (or better)? And any comments or advice on this fairly silly project would be excellent as well. Thank you.

Hello everyone, I have an old laptop that was running fine until recently where when I boot it up, the WIndows OS goes into startup repair and it never ends. This is Windows Vista. I've tried Startup Repair - failed System Restore - failed Chkdsk scan - bad sector found I did backed up on this hard drive, and I can't think of anything to bring back the laptop to life, Any advise or how to fix bad sectors? I didn't take a note of the message from command prompt after chkdisk scan. Thanks

Hey there, this is my first post on the forum so... that doesn't really mean anything. Anyway, I was wondering if it is possible to run one of my HDDs in my computer (which uses Windows Vista) on my PCIe GPU and have my second HDD (which uses Windows 10) running off of integrated graphics. The reason for this is that I am on a tight budget and got a Dell Optiplex 760 (for £50 from Facebook) and a Dell Optiplex 755 (for £0 from the rubbish) and was hoping to 'merge' the 2 systems into one. The reason for this is that my GPU (a Sapphire X1650 Pro (yes I like brackets (yes I know this is incorrect grammar))) supports Windows Vista but doesn't support Windows 10. Thank you for reading this, and hopefully we can figure this out.

Hey everybody, I am helping a friend with his computer. I don't know the build, but it has Windows Vista. It stalls at the boot up screen where you press F2, F11 etc. Just stays there and no input from the keyboard does anything. Try switching keyboards - it's not something wrong with the keyboard. Tried flashing the bios by taking out the cmos battery. It goes past the boot menu and starts up. After normal start up, the computer restarts and goes back to getting stuck in the boot menu (my colleague thinks it's because it's an unlicensed copy of Vista). Try flashing the bios again, only this time it doesn't get past the startup screen again. Any thoughts? My goal this morning was the flash the bios and then boot from a fresh windows install cd, but, like I said, stuck at startup again. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Hey everyone, First off, this is my first posting here, watch the youtube channel all the time though. I have a question about my BIOS and booting using multiple drives each with a different operating system. I currently have 3 hard drives in my computer. 1 HDD with Windows Vista, 1 SSD with Windows 8, and 1 HDD as storage. I would like to use the Windows 8 SSD and the Storage HDD together, and the Vista HDD as a standalone. I want to be able to switch which drive I boot from, as I have important things on my Vista and want to keep that drive in case I need it. I have been able to switch between the two drives through the BIOS, however, when I do it tells me that my disks need to be checked for errors and performs disk cleanup. After switching back and forth a couple of times, things get very wacky. My only solution has been to unplug the the Vista HDD when I want to use Windows 8 SSD/Storage HDD, and unplug the Windows 8 SSD/Storage HDD when I want to use Vista HDD. While this works, it is annoying to open my case and unplug stuff ever time I wish to switch where I boot from. Additionally, when I unplug the Vista HDD to use the Windows 8 SSD/Storage HDD, my BIOS tries to boot from the Storage HDD which, obviously, doesn't have an OS and I end up needing to go into the BIOS anyways to tell it to boot from the Windows 8 SSD. This happens regardless of which SATA port I connect the Windows SSD to on the motherboard. It always tries to boot from the Storage HDD. Any thoughts here or am I just going to have to live with this as is?

hey everyone, i'm looking to build a new gaming pc which has support for 4k as i'm still using an old system with Vista (yes you read that right) which has dual display. I have no parts in mind at the moment although i have just watch How to Build the ULTIMATE 4K Gaming PC Build Guide to see what it would cost roughy (likely over budget im guessing) on pcpartpicker in GBP but most of the parts aren't available in the UK anyone able to recommend some UK builds? i'm likely going to build a 4k pc but use 1080p displays for now while i save up for 2x 4k decent displays. I also wanted to ask to get dual display 4k do you need 2 cards? as i noticed a lot of 4k YouTube video builds use dual cards when using dual displays or does it just help the system overall? never used 4k (to be honest i don't even know what kinda connection 4k uses ha) sorry if in wrong forum new here, thanks ray.

Ok so here's the situation. I have windows 7 ultimate installed. I recently put a hard drive in from another computer. That had vista. First time boot. My computer booted to my default drive I have it set to. (Windows 7) Upon rebooting. My computer started booting from the vista drive. I removed the vista drive. And attempted to boot from my default drive. But it just displays BOOTMBR missing after POST. I tried using bootrec from windowsRE on a flashdrive. But still no result. I also tried using partition wizard from a flash drive and making the system reserve partition is active. Still no results. The thing is in windowsRE and when it searches for windows instilation to repair. It shows 7 and vista. Even when I don't have the vista drive in. But the 7 partition shows. But when I attempt to repair it. It says it's incompatible.

HI there, I will be receiving an older Hewlett-Packard from my parents as a hand-me-down when they get a new PC. What I want to know is if there will be any issues if I try to install Windows 8.1 on the PC. I will be installing a new hard drive and will put Windows on it. The old hard drive with Vista on it will be removed. I've read statements online of other people saying that their pre-builts with older OS's cannot install Windows 8.1 correctly, and I want to make sure I have a green light before trying anything. If more information is required about the tower's components, I will gladly give it to you. All help is greatly appreciated.

I have made and tested this tutorial using OneDrive (SkyDrive), but in theory it should work with Dropbox and Google Drive, as well as any other sync software that mounts its own folder on your computer. There are a few tutorials on the web that tell you how to back up a folder to OneDrive, but most of them only work for Win8 and below or for Win8.1 and up. This version works for both, and I have tested it on Windows 7 and 8.1. This will not duplicate the files on your hard drive, unlike some methods (which involve syncing the source and OneDrive folder to make sure that they're up to date). Why would you want to do this? Personally, because I have an Office365 subscription, I have just over 1TB of OneDrive space (which happens to be more than the 750GB in my computer), and since I don't use cloud storage much, I thought that I might as well back up my "My Documents" folder to OneDrive. My brother is using it to back up his school documents to OneDrive without needing to relocate all his existing files, and make it easier to save stuff. How do you do it? Open Command Prompt (you don't need to run it as administrator) Type mklink /J (ends in a space) into the command prompt, but don't press enter Open Windows Explorer and Shift+Right Click on OneDrive (or the folder that will have a new folder created within where the files will be synced to) (This is typically found in your User Profile, which can be reached by typing %userprofile% into Windows Explorer's address bar), and click Copy As Path Right Click in the command prompt and click Paste (you can't use Ctrl+V). The path to OneDrive should be pasted into the command prompt, enclosed in "double quotes". Press ← (Left arrow key) once, so the end quote is highlighted, then type \ followed by the name of the folder that you want to create, which the sync will populate. In Windows Explorer, copy the path of the source folder (Shift+Right Click, Copy as Path) and paste it into command prompt, leaving a space between the two paths. Your command prompt line should now look something like this:mklink /J "C:\Users\Me\SkyDrive\My Synced Folder" "C:\Users\Me\Documents" If so, press enter. After a couple of seconds, it should report a success, then OneDrive will start syncing your data. Note: On Windows 8.1, OneDrive crashed after completing the sync. This may be a coincidence (it's an old PC with a failing hard drive), but it may mean that this can cause issues with OneDrive. Please let me know whether it works for you, and what OS you're using.

So I have this problem, we have a PC here hooked up to a TV with the sole purpose of showing photo's. Whenever you select a photo in the directory and click on "photo slider" the PC freezes. With "freezes" I mean that the mouse changes to the loading icon and stays that way, you are able to mouse but not able to click on anything. The PC is running Windows Vista but I don't think that is causing the freezes, everything works perfectly fine until the want to use the slider. Any tips or tricks are greatly appreciated.

I was just reading this subreddit on why people seem to hate Windows 10. I haven't used Windows Me so no comment on that but I used Vista, 8/8.1, and 10, operating systems that garnered so much notoriety for being hated by its users. I remember hating Vista so much because of its asinine and ridiculous system requirements at the time, high memory usage and software quirks that just get in the way that I saved lunch money during college just to buy a legit DVD installer of Windows 7 Home Premium for my Dell Inspiron laptop back in 2009. However, because of a security feature in Vista, we have sandboxing built in to Google Chrome. Then with Windows 8, I actually liked the under the hood improvements it brought like faster boot times, longer battery life, native USB 3 support without the need of additional drivers, native ISO mounting, and improved memory management and enhanced security like built in Windows Defender and secure boot. I didn't liked the Metro/Modern UI which is definitely made for tablet PCs, notwithstanding the fact that a lot of PCs have traditional mice and keyboards and no touchscreen. To switch apps on Windows 8, you have to bring your cursor on the top left and move it down to bring the app switcher. In a touchscreen, you have to swipe from the from the left to the right and back out immediately just, and lastly to close an app, you have to grab the top with your mouse and drag it down. Microsoft quickly released Windows 8.1 which is meant to alleviate some of their users frustrations like the ability to boot directly to the desktop app and an option onhitting the Windows key to reveal the all apps list instead of the Start screen. When Windows 10 was announced, I was excited because it will finally bring back the Start Menu which in my opinion, the best app launcher for desktop/laptop computers. I was also excited that finally, they'll release Windows 10 as a free upgrade for people with legit Windows 7 and 8.1, following what Apple had been doing since OS X Mavericks via the Mac App Store. I think I have already spoken way too much on why I'm salty with Windows 10. I mean, I share similar Windows 10 sentiments as expressed by both @Slick and @LinusTech in their social media accounts. Here are a few examples: Just imagine if this happened to journalists with Surface Pros/Surface Books while attending a Microsoft BUILD conference. So much bad press. So if you're a college/grad school student working on your thesis/dissertation and this happens. So much flow of thoughts are interrupted and you'll probably never get back. And then there's the issue of privacy. I think this video below pretty much summarizes the privacy problems even in Creators Update and the ramifications is somehow staggering which I concur wholeheartedly. So what do you guys think? Is Windows 10 the most hated operating system or do you think people are complaining way too much and Windows 10 is not only their most tested Windows version ever (as claimed by Microsoft), it is also the best operating system out there. Please share your thoughts, rants, and opinions on why this version is the most hated one.
