Don't really know what else to really say other than I've actually built the PC. I just need to get Windows on it. Read that I need an 8 GB Flash drive to do it, and the largest one I have right now is 3 so need to get a larger flash drive before anything else. I have a key that should allow me to move my windows from one PC to another, I just want to remove everything of mine from the old machine when I get the new one up and running. I plan on using some of the tools that Linus showed off, like that Chochi installer thing, so I don't need to click next so often. So any help, tips, etc. I know you have to do some funky stuff to get a local account made for windows 11, plan is right now to move my W10 to new computer, then free upgrade to W11 and make a local account.

Hello. I am building a new pc but want to use my old RAM, GPU, PSU and SSD & Nvme in my build which is a new Aio, CPU and MOBO. I have 2 SSD's 1 Nvme drives. Idk if im doing this right or not but ive read I can just install the new drives on my new mobo, boot the bios and pick my boot drive. I copied the data that has videos and applications installed from my D drive to my E drive. I literally just copy and pasted it. I tried to format My D drive So I can have a fresh drive to load windows on it in the event I cant post. Im really not sure if Im doing this right but im just trying to play it safe. When I go to format my D drive it tells me "the drive is in use another program or process is using this drive" I went into my Disk management on Windows and see that my D drive is listed as "Active, Primary Partition" and my C drive that has windows installed says (Boot, page file, crash dump, Basic data partition) Which seems a lil odd. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Recently i bought a bunch of new PC parts to make a new build. But when i put them together, i am able to get in the windows installer, but when the installer is done, it boots me back into the bios. Steps i have taken before the post: Tried to install with a USB made with media creation tool. Tried to install with a USB made with Rufus with GPT partition scheme and UEFI (non CSM) target system Tried to install with and without CSM on. Put boot devices in UEFI only mode in the CSM menu. The weird thing is as well, when i install windows on the 980 Pro 1tb, the BIOS doesnt recognise it as a boot device, but there is a windows install on the drive when i check it through Diskpart in a CMD window. I am on the most recent non-Beta bios for my motherboard, that being version 1413 released on the 27th of april. Included is a screenshot of the Rufus settings i used for the boot drive. Full specs: 7800X3D Asus B650E-F Gaming Wifi 16x2 GB Corsair Vengeance RGB 6000mt/s CL36 1TB Samsung 980 Pro (boot drive) 2TB Corsair MP600 RTX 3090 (from old build) Corsair HX1000i

I've got a brand new system all new parts B550-A Pro MSI MB Radeon 580 saphire GPU Ryzen 3700x HP 500gb SSD NZXT tower 16GB x2 gskill ddr4 Im able to access BIOS without issue, mouse and keyboard work while in BIOS without issue. The moment I try to install windows 7 via disk, It starts up normally 'hit any key to boot via CD/DVD.....' I hit a key on keyboard, it proceeds. When it gets to the first option selection ( choose language / location / mb keyboard ) my keyboard and mouse suddenly have become unresponsive - Keyboard lights are gone (LED and the caps locks indicators as well) and mouse doesnt work / show up on screen. I've tried everything I can think do do / found on line related to it - Tried all usb port options (Before boot and swapping while on that windows options screen ) No results Tried different keyboard and mouse hardware ( I have 2 wireless kb, and 1 wired kb ) ( wired and wireless mouse ) No results Disabled legacy options for usb on BIOS Tried a different wall outlet to make sure it wasn't an electricity issue Tried a different monitor ( trying anything at this point ) Basically stuck where it will let me look at the 'begin windows install' screen but I cannot choose anything to proceed. Would really really appreciate anyone's advice i'm getting very discouraged at this point :(.

I just installed win 11 on my second hand laptop via usb. After setup it asks "sign in using your school or work Id" and there's no workaround I found for this. It doesn't ask for my Microsoft I'd....it asks for some organization id the company that had this laptop before owns....how do I sign in using the local account?

Upgraded to a larger 2TB m.2 SSD and installed windows 11 on the drive. When booting I now get a windows screen before login that asks me to pick an install. Volume 11 or 13. I pick 13 and it boots into the new windows. I haven't tried volume 11 yet. I also noticed that the 2TB does not have a recovery partition or the EFI partition. PC crashed at 8:15 this morning and created 75 events in one minute. I had this crashing issue after upgrading the old SSD from w10 to w11. Each crash has a different BSOD code. The old drive is still plugged in so I can access some of the files I haven't migrated over yet. I'm not well versed in the event viewer so I was hoping someone here could suggest which event could be pointing to the culprit and we could dig further into the issue. I get these crashes every time I turn on the computer. Usually in the first minute or 2 but sometimes up to 20 minutes in (as in today while on a work call). Hey guys so I have an issue I have been unable to find any solution for: I went from a computer that worked perfectly, to then letting it sit for 2 days, and then when I came back, it began really falling apart. It will blue screen for a number of reasons, and give me differing area codes. For instance, I got (just yesterday while troubleshooting) a PFN_List_Corrupt, Memory Management, and two KERNAL_TRAP error codes. After trying to run CHKDSK, and it still failling, I decided to just remove the SATA drive it is on. This decision to just remove the drive, since there's nothing super important on it, came after trying to work through the boot cycle for about 2 hours. I then downloaded another windows file onto a flash drive, and then downloaded it into my NVME drive; however even after switching between EUFI and Legacy UEFI, it made no difference. I am still unable to select to boot of of my NVME despite the SSD being removed. Here is my build: CPU: i7-8700k Ram: 16 Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX 3600 mhz GPU: 1070Ti Motherboard MSI z370 I assume theres no need for the PSU and Case, etc.

Hey everyone PLEASE HELP! so I just got a new ryzen 5000 series cpu a new 1tb 4.0 nvme and new ram. I have an old nvme that I had as my boot drive but wanted to not take advantage of pcie 4.0 not that I have a cpu and nvme that supports it. So I installed new drive into 4.0 supported slot in my mother board and stick my thumb drive with windows in and select boot from thumb. While going threw the process and choosing what drive to put it on my new one is listed but not “installable” so clicked the (NEW) button next to the format button and it does its thing and I install windows on new drive. When it restarts it shows 2 different windows on startup I choose the new drive get into windows and think everything just peachy. I format old drive and start installing new drivers and whatnot and on restart I go into bios and notice my new drive isn’t in the boot priority list. But does show up as a drive in my pc. And so I uninstall old drive from mobo to see if it will just boot to new one and doesn’t. But when I put old drive back in it’ll boot right up but still show 2 windows partitions to choose from. How do I fix it to where my new drive is main boot and old one is just an extra storage? Please help me out I’ve tried searching far and wide but can’t seem to find much.

Hi all, My system is one month old and unfortunately I didn't set it up right the first time. I'm wondering... Can I install/setup 'raid' so that I am booting from both m.2 SSD's, without fully re-installing windows? I believe the answer is no, but wanted to get others' opinion. I searched the forum (and elsewhere) and can't find a concrete answer. The end goal is to have one volume 4TB in size that is the primary drive, rather than two separate 2TB ones. I don't need help with the install itself, just want to know if it can be done without deleting everything and starting over w/clean install of windows. Much thanks in advance for your time & assistance.

I will be building a new computer in the coming week and I'm looking for a solution to a hard drive problem. I want to use the same 3 drives I have in this system in my new one. The only one that I'm confused about is the OS drive. I have already read the how-to on Groovypost where they say to "format the computer - this method ensures the product key is no longer in use on the computer." Does this mean that if I use the "reset this PC" function I can then just pop the drive into the new computer and input the product key to make sure its registered? Im just trying to make sure I dont get screwed by Microsoft's weird licensing rules. Any help is appreciated!

Motherboard: ASUS PRIME H610M-A D4-CSM ( Version 1603 newest available ) CPU: i3-12100F SSD: Toshiba 256 SSD (plugged into Sata 1) RAM: TEAMGROUP T-Force Delta RGB DDR4 16GB (2x8GB) 3000MHz (PC4-24000) GPU: XFX RX480 Black Edition 8GB Power Supply: Thermaltake Smart 500W Building my wife her first PC using some old parts ( GPU, SSD ) from my gaming rig. PC boots into Bios just fine and identifies every component When the windows usb is selected it boots to a Asus logo with the spinning dots for 5 seconds and then goes to a black screen with just spinning dots. I've left it for an hour with no progress. I have reset the CMOS battery, put the bios back into default and tried enabling boot settings one by one.

Hey guys, I have an MSI MS-9661 Speedster2 mobo with 2x 6core opteron 2423HE, and 16GB RAM. My problem is that when I try booting from an usb stick, the pc freezes, like the usb has a led that it flashes when its being used, it stays lit, and i tried pressing they numlock led button, but it doesnt do anything, so the pc is freezed. Only way to get it back is via restarting it! In bios it never freezes, recognises everything, I have tried installing win 10, and ubuntu too, ubuntu said some "cpu soft lockup" all the time! I have tried with different ram sticks, and pendrives, but no luck:( What could i do? Please help

Hi all! I appreciate any help I can get on this. I'll post my tech specs up here, and details on the steps I've taken below. Troublesome SSD: Crucial P2 500GB M.2 SSD Model #CT500P2SSD8 Laptop that I'm trying to get this to be the boot drive of: HP Pavillion from 2018 Model #15-cs00563cl ProdID 3TS79UA#ABA Known Good PC I tested the drive in: CPU- Intel 9700F GPU- MSI 1650 Super Motherboard- MSI B360M (MS-7B24) TL:DR-ish Bullet Points Goal: Install windows on new M.2 Boot drive Drive: Crucial P2 500GB M.2 SSD (Model #CT500P2SSD8) Laptop: HP Pavillion from 2018, model #15-cs00563cl, prodID 3TS79UA#ABA Issue: New drive will show up in BIOS, in launched windows as a storage space, but not in the windows installation media Steps Taken So Far: 1. Installed new drive, unplugged old HDD, and inserted windows 10 install USB 2. Replugged in old HDD, launched to existing windows install, found drive in storage spaces, and initialized/formatted it. Shut off, disconnected HDD, and tried booting again 3. Launched in HDD windows again, opened up a terminal and did diskpart/ disk list command mentioned here, SSD does not show up as a connected device, just the install USB. Still see it in the BIOS 4. Tried enabling legacy boot and making sure secure boot was disabled- same results. 5. Downloaded driver's from Crucial onto separate USB drive, plugged that in with the installation media and tried selecting the driver manually 6. Tried putting the drive in my existing PC, repeated steps 1-4, same results. 7. Hail mary- tried copying USB install media to new SSD, booting without USB in. Says no bootable media Edit: I have now also tried manually installing the Intel Raid driver discussed below, and disabling CSM in my boot menu. I bought a new Crucial P2 500GB M.2 SSD (Model #CT500P2SSD8) to use as the new boot drive for my old laptop (HP Pavillion from 2018, model #15-cs00563cl, prodID 3TS79UA#ABA) so I can make it usable again. The existing hard drive launches, but it's painfully slow- like 2-3 minutes to launch Edge, and even typing in the search bar has a massive lag. I installed the new drive, disconnected the old one, and put it in my USB drive with the Windows installation media. This is the same USB I used to install windows on mine and my partner's PCs when we first built them, so it is a known good installation media. Launched into the BIOS to make sure the drive was there, and sure enough, it was (Imgur link of BIOS pic) yet when I launched into the windows installer, it doesn't show up as an available installation drive. First I made sure the drive was initialized. I replugged in my POS hard drive, launched into windows, and sure enough, it was there in storage spaces ready to be formatted. I formatted the drive, tested copying a file/launching it to make sure it was working, then reformatted it again to wipe it and try the installation again. Went back into the windows installer after disconnecting my hard drive again, and the drive still isn't there at all. I opened up a terminal and did the diskpart/disk list command mentioned in this help article and the SSD doesn't show up in there at all. Just the USB installation media. The next thing I tried was installing windows on it from my main PC- I thought maybe it was some weird issue with HP's proprietary bios or whatever. Still no luck- and same situation as before. Shows up as another storage space when in windows, shows up as a connected drive in my bios, but does not show up in the windows installer. Also tried pulling the SSD driver from Crucial's site, downloading it onto a separate USB and selecting that driver in the windows installer manually just in case that was the issue. Figured this wouldn't work, but I also tried copying my install USB to the SSD and attempting to boot without the install USB connected- just the SSD I need to install windows on. It just says no bootable media and to press any key once I've inserted boot media. I'm kinda lost at this point and tbh I probably would have attempted to install Unbutu by now if I didn't super need fully-functioning Microsoft Office. I plan to use this laptop for college next semester and my university uses Office for everything. I've tried emulating with Wine on my work PC which runs Unbutu with little luck, but Linux is still fairly unfamiliar grounds to me besides /sudo apt get. Thank you all again for any help! I'll also list a bullet point version below for simplicity. I think I've gotten everything I've tried written out here but I'll double-check what I wrote and make edits if needed once my eyes hurt a little less lol. Been staring at screens for a long time.

I have a Aorus Ultra Z690 DDR5. I already updated the BIOS to the latest version. I've tried multiple ways to get past this screen, but they don't work. Can anybody help me? I tried using the command line to partition the drive, which made me have to reburn the ISO file to the USB. I tried using the drivers from the motherboard but that returns "No new devices drivers were found. Make sure the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click ok." https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/Z690-AORUS-ULTRA-rev-1x/support#support-dl-driver-sataraidahci I've reinstalled the ISO multiple times and it still doesn't work Edit: Solved the problem by having my friend create the bootable USB using Windows Media Creation Tool formatted using NTFS. Both of the ISO's I burned were using my MAC which only gave me FAT32 and ExFAT options.

Hello All, I've come across an issue with my new build. Upon boot, I'm greeted with a windows installation error on the splash screen. I've tried reimaging the system several times but it keeps blue screening when the system restarts to complete the installation. I've gone as far as exchanging just about every part from the retailer, in the case that one of the parts I bought was bad. I also tried every other 1TB NVMe PCIe Gen 3 SSD they sold and I STILL HAD THE SAME ISSUE. Tried a more powerful PSU my buddy had, same issue. The only way I was able to get it to work is if I use this jank looking 512GB Union Memory brand SSD I had in an old Lenovo laptop, but I'd really like to use a 1TB NVMe. What could be the issue here? So my friend asked if I could fix his laptop by formatting. I said everything will be deleted and he said it is ok. So I got the laptop, opened the BIOS and it was at legacy mode. Plugged my Windows 7 Ultimate and gave me an error, "Windows cannot install in this drive. The drive may fail soon" So I told him that his disk was damaged so I needed to replace it. I replaced it the I tried Windows 10 Pro, it did not worked. Tried Windows 10 Home and it it could get the source of the files? Then I got my old dust Windows 7 Disc that got stuck on "setup is starting" since it seems it dosen't speed up at full speed. I tried the default BIOS options but it is the same. The laptop is an Latitude E6430. I will rerun all setups to see the exact errors.BTW the USB Installs can't be corrupt because Tri-booted my old desktop using my Windows XP DVD, WIndows 7 USB and my Windows 10 USB yesterday. Thanks in advance.

I am attempting my first ever PC build. I have definitely learnt a lot and I am now up to installing an OS. I purchased a Windows 10 USB (rookie mistake, I know) and when I begin the installation process, literally after BIOS, the screen appears to freeze. I can navigate through BIOS just fine but I cannot get past Windows Setup as shown. So the mouse will just not move and attempting to navigate using the keyboard does not work. I have my hdmi connected to the gpu, the gpu is all lit up and the fans do move. I have turned off integrated graphics but also tried with them on and plugged into the mobo, the same issue occurs. I have tried changing the usb slots of my mouse and keyboard. Specs: CPU - i7 9700k MOBO - Gigabyte Aorus z390 pro wifi GPU - 2080 MSI Gaming X Trio RAM - trident Z 2x8GB DDR4 3200MHz PSU - EVGA 850W 80+Gold Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Near as I can tell, the PC h tried hardware is working. I am trying to install Windows on a 500 GB Samsung EVO SSD. The first time I tried i had an error message that I thought I resolved by unplugging the mechanical HDD I had installed, leaving the SSD as the sole storage. Windows began installing. I looked away from the screen for a bit and looked back up and saw I was back at the install screen. I tried to start the installation again but got an error message at the screen where I have to select the drive to install Windows. The first time (without the HDD connected) the SSD had no partitions. But this time "Drive 0" had 2 partitions. Partition 1 System Reserved 579.0 MB and Partition 2 465.2 GB. But "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. the selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks. Near as I can tell the Windows installer must have been the one to partition the disk. But my question is how do I reformat the drive as a GPT disk without having an OS installed? Is there a way to get the Bios to format the drive? Thanks.
