I have a Dell inspiron with windows 8.1 pro. Whenever I download large files over a span of time, it switches to limited access for no apparent reason. This doesn't usually happen when surfing the internet, but only when I'm downloading larger files. It resets once i disconnect and reconnect back to my wifi.

Any old grey bearded business equipment wizards out there? So I’ve got an old x97 build with Win8.1 on it, and some peripherals that are even older. It’s my gaming machine. Such as it is. It’s getting a bit long in the tooth. Once upon a time long ago it was reasonably hot. I’m hoping to nurse it along till maybe mid 2020 before I do a full rig upgrade. (Windows 10. Blech. I knew it has to happen though) the laser printer is a brother 5040 (usb) This actually did work well enough, but I had a hard crash, and when I brought it back up I could get documents to spool, and the OS recognized the existence of the printer (I think) but it wouldn’t actually print. The scanner is harder I suspect. It’s an HP scanjet 5300c. Old old. I can’t even get the machine to admit it exists. Getting even one of these working in Win 8.1 would be super handy. right now I’m looking at the minor horror of loading Linux onto an old Pi zero ive got and trying to turn that into a network hub. CUPs and SANE. So much evil it makes me nauseous. It would be so much simpler if I could just get them to speak to my machine on USB. Anyone feel like talking an old fool through nursing his geriatric children?

Hello all. Over the past week I've found myself constantly dropping from the internet to the point where I can't connect at all. I keep getting the limited connection yellow triangle and when I try to diagnose the problem all I get met with is: "Ethernet" doesn't have a valid IP configuration IPv4 Connectivity: No network access IPv6 Connectivity: No network access I'm currently hard wired in with the router and have never encountered this issue till recently starting the Monday of last week. But what is odd is that I'll gain internet connection for a while, then out of no where it drops. Sometimes it would come back instantly but now I'm just sitting here with it out for the past 2 days. Things I've tried: -Restarting Router/Modem -Changing the DNS/IP address under the IPv4 Connectivity properties -Going into Command Prompt and using the various commands= ipconfig /release, /renew, netsh winsock reset, etc Nothing seems to be working for me, and what I find even weirder is that every other device in my house works perfectly fine. There is no issue with the internet, I've checked with my provider Comcast and they said everything seems to be fine. Being a content creator, having connection is life or death for me Thanks in advance, -Retro

I've installed windows on countless laptops and desktops for my job. However, with some new laptops we ordered that need to be upgraded I am getting a weird problem; I simply cannot install Windows 8.1 PRO via clean install. I understand I am able to upgrade the laptop to Pro using the 'add features to windows' section within the system menu. Unfortunately, my company is requiring me to install Pro though a clean install. I've tried multiple Windows 8.1 Pro discs, different external disc drives, and also via a bootable USB stick with the Pro ISO. Everytime windows installs it installs Windows 8.1 with the windows activation key that came with the laptop. I need it to install Windows 8.1 Pro. The reason we need this is to enable bitlocker. Laptop is an ACER E5-511-P0GC preinstalled with windows 8.1. Thank you!

Does anyone know to permanently activate Windows 8.1 Professional? I've used the Microsoft Tookkit and activated it but only to find out that it had an expiration date of January 2016. I found out by opening CMD in Admin mode and typing "slmgr -XPR". If you know how to please share the information.

Problem: I have my laptop (1080p 16:9) connected to my TV (1080p 16:9). However, while the rest of the UI seems to be scaled exactly the same, the Start Menu, depending on the screen scales differently. I would like to have the smaller laptop start menu on my tv. LAPTOP DISPLAY: TV DISPLAY: Screen settings are set as following: I checked the scaling settings, they're both the same on both screens as well. System Specs CPU Intel Core i7-4710HQ 6MB Motherboard XMG Model C504 v1.0 RAM 16Gb DDR3 1600Mhz Crusal Ballistix Sport GPU NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M 6144MB GDDR5 Storage 2x 256Gb SanDisk X110 mSATA SSD | 2x 500Gb HDD (RAID1) Display 15.6" Full-HD Matte AHVA/IPS Monitor Operating System Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit

USB Cable Device Descriptor Request Failed (Code 43)
satanisahippy posted a topic in Troubleshooting
Hey all, how are you going? Now I have a small problem with a cable I have. I have a very long (trust me its long) USB to Micro USB so that i could plug in my xbox one controller and play games with it. It worked when I first bought it but now for some reason my cable stop working and I went into Device Mananger and saw this error. Device Descriptor Request Failed (code 43) But when i plug it in with other cables it works fine. If it helps I am using Windows 8.1 Pro. Any idea how to fix this as all my other usbs are working fine. Thankyou in advance. -

Please Help me resolve these Windows 8.1 Pro Blue Screen Errors. tldr; I get a lot of windows blue screen errors (see list) on my desktop and I would like to resolve these errors without needing to reinstall windows. I have tried everything and would really like help with this problem. It has stopped me from using my new computer to its full potential. Please tell me if you need anymore information I can provide it. Note to get the most help possibLe I have also posted my problem to these places: Sub reddits r/techsupport Tom's Hardware: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2655405/resolve-windows-pro-blue-screen-errors.html Linus Tech Tips (duh) List of Blue Screen Error Messages: =================================== PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA DRIVER_ARE_NOT_LESS_THAN_EQUAL DRIVER_OVERRAN_STACK_BUFFER ATTEMPTED_EXECUTE_OF_NONEXECUTE_MEMEORY CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_COURRUPTION NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED and many more! If I need to do this I would like advice as how to make backup of save data, games and appilications so I don't have to use huge amounts of bandwidth redownloading stuff. What I do with the computer: Programing, Scientific Computation, Standard Office appilications, Steam games (and the witcher 3 from GOG). Computer History: I bulit this computer myself, installed windows 8.1 using this tool http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media. Due to an error I forgot the password to my account and had to reinstall windows 8.1 again. Copied a few files from the windows 8.1 old folder than deleted the rest. Most of the Blue Screen errors appear when I try to turn on my computer (causing it to crash). After multiple attempts (turning my computer on and off) I can turn it on and it remains stable until I turn it off and try turning it back on. Today however there were blue screen crashes while playing witcher 3 (though It was stable the day(s) before with the 1.03 patch).

Why the hell is Windows 8.1 PRO cheaper than the regular windows 8.1?? Really like I'm buying one of them cuz I built a new rig and the not so boughtful version is causing me driver issues and I'm not out waiting for 10 because it's gonna take a while for drivers and compatible stuff to come out(I'd imagine). So really, watz gonna make me wanna buy one or another? I don't see the point on buying regular cause pro actually seems to have more stuff to it. Just bought a 120 GB SSD from Kingson, this one: http://www.kingston.com/en/ssd/v#sv300s3 from here https://www.komplett.no/kingston-ssdnow-v300-120gb-25-oem/773515#!tab:extra So first thing I do when I get it is to power down everything, plug it in, turn everything back on and see if it gets detected by my system and works. It does. Tried making it a primary partition: works. Tried formating it: also works. So everything seems to work, I delete it so it's unallocated. Then with the Windows 8.1 Setup program (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media) I start creaing a bootable USB. My usb: http://www.kingston.com/en/usb/personal_business#dt100g3 https://www.komplett.no/kingston-datatraveler-g3-32gb/779498 I then go into boot menu and choose the USB, the windows 8.1 setup starts. I write in my key and proceed to the drive selection. I select the SSD and install. So installation goes fine, I get into my new windows installation and downloads the important windows updates. After they finish I click update and restart. While it's doing it's thing I go AFK. When I come back all I see is a orange screen ( color that I selected during the windows 8 personalization process. See image: http://i.gyazo.com/3b2a02ed8419a45ceb98b0131be8e4c8.png ) I think this is because I forgot to change my boot order, so when it restarted it went into my HDD. Cause I still, for whatever reason, had them in. I know that I should have taken them out before starting.. After this I shut it down -> boot menu -> SSD. Same orange screen, it shows right after the splash screen of the windows logo. I boot into my HDD, same thing... I pull out my SSD and try going into HDD, it works. However, after the splash screen it asks me to choose between windows 8.1 on volume 1 or windows 8.1 (doesn't show volume). I choose the volume 1, and it works. So I then pull out my HDD and just have my HDD in, still the orange screen. Then I start a 5 hour long troubleshooting quest trying to reinstall windows and turning on and off different BIOS settings and everything I can possibly think of. So I then get an error whilst selecting which disk to install windows on the SSD. Error message: "We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one for more information, see Setup log files." I then quit the installer, click on repair computer -> troubleshoot -> advanced -> command prompt -> regedit.exe -> file -> import/export (this starts windows explorer). Don't know why, but you can't start explorer with explorer.exe. I view the setup error in Boot X:\Windows\panther\setuperr.log or something like that. It shows me like hundreds of these: "[0x06069e] IBS GetMachineInfo:Couldn't find boot disk on this BIOS-based computer" I somehow managed to install windows 2 more times, but everytime I power down, put in my HDD and boot from my SSD, I get the orange screen. I have set my SATA controller to AHCI. I tried this on 3 different computers. I tried installing Windows 7 Ultimate on the SSD, worked flawlessly. Tried using my ISO file to install on a virtual machine, also worked fine. Tried setting up the bootable USB with both the 8.1 setup program and the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool (http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool). I know it says Windows 7, but it works on every version I think. My friend have tried it on windows 8, server 2012 and 2008, vista and 7. I have also tried with 3 different ISO files. So now I'm just lost. I don't know what to do anymore, this goes beyond my knowledge and understanding. I just keep getting the "We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one for more information, see Setup log files." error. And "[0x06069e] IBS GetMachineInfo:Couldn't find boot disk on this BIOS-based computer" in the setup error log. Specs: PC 1: Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3, Socket-AM3+ AMD FX-8350 Black Edition PC 2: MS-7798 Intel i3-3220 PC 3: MB.R4L02.001 i3-380M Edit: It works fine in Windows btw! It can read and write. http://puu.sh/aS2OJ/acb5b7c9af.png

Hi LTT So i've been thinking lately about buying a Surface Pro 3, it seems to have all the features of my mobile computing needs, but it is expensive to get a proper version, ill definitely get the i5 with 128gb or above model, but that's $999... I do however plan on selling my "gaming" notebook which is a msi ge60, which i bought for mobile gaming 2 years ago, but since that, i'm a lot less on the road and i got myself an awesome Desktop instead, so now its just a bulky school notebook and the power brick is just as big! That will decrease off the hole in my wallet Well I would like to hear what You think of the surface 3, pros and cons over a actual laptop? do you see a value to the price? Do you intend to buy this yourself or what would your use-case be if you had one? should i wait for a potential surface 4?
